CMDRs, where art thou?

Is any one else finding the phrase 'open' and multiplayer oxymorons when it comes to ED? I'm just not seeing any CMDRs at all lately, and in the 4 weeks or so that I've been playing I could count the sightings I've had using all my fingers and toes. Is everyone hiding out in solo, or is the networking model to blame (probably doesn't help I'm based in Australia), or is the galaxy simply that big that we are spread out to thin, or is it a combination of all the above? If the latter, I'm pretty disappointed to be honest. I thought I was buying into a multiplayer game and it feels very much like a single player experience to me.

If this is how the game is shaping up Frontier would be well advised to trash solo play because the game is marketed as a multiplayer game and as such in it's current state is bound to disappoint. Don't get me wrong... I'm still enjoying myself, but if it stays this way I really couldn't say for how much longer :-/

It might be that you are in deep space where not many travel. To test it out fly to a more popular location (SOL/LAVE).

Go to the systems mentioned in the newsfeeds or the systems around Lave. Also, the systems around LHS 3447 (Starter system for a lot of players).

If you still can't see others there might be some issues with your connection.

I've recently found the opposite. There were seven of us CMDRs in just one station earlier today.

IDK... some places see thousands of people every day. You're somewhere else than there, sounds like.

I'm hanging out around Jotunheim, which I made tracks to because I saw it being discussed in this forum. Regarding issues with my connection, well, I have seen the odd CMDR (though not for at least a week) and if there are issues with my connection I wouldn't mind someone pointing out what the issue may be. I have no problem in other multiplayer games.

I did spend a bit of time in Sol before the Feds turned on me, but that was surprisingly sparce to.

I'll head off to Lave today. Haven't been there yet so I'll give it a whirl

Depends where you are, as other contributors say. I've seen plenty over the last week. In my home port I never see anyone (and that's how I like it. No competition)

It probably doesn't help that you're in Australia, but if you're playing at a time when other Antipodeans & Asians might be, then everyone is probably in Tenche system grinding credits via Seeking Luxuries.

Also, Lave & George Lucas systems are always hot because of rare traders.

If you go to popular places and don't see anyone, and log out & in again to try and get a new instance, then you might want to look into your network/router settings, although knowing what's going on there can get pretty geeky...

I have been playing in open and have seen plenty of commanders, I have hailed about 20 today to say hi but only 1 responded another promptly dropped his cargo and fled.......I was docked in the hanger when I called him! I only wanted to say hello, there are a lot of nervous commanders out there lol.

Me, I'm hiding in open...

According to the traffic reports in my systems, I'm it,

The trading is all mine I tell ya, Mine, Mine, Mine...

Sorry, cracking up out hear all on my own!

I have the game for about one week now I think, and seen one CMDR directly and one on the scanner.

But contrary to your view I like this really, I bought the game because I wanted to take a break from all these extremely aggravating online games(recently pretty everything has to be online) because I got tired of kids(and other people behaving like 'em) spamming insults all the time. And this game is just great for that, if you want you can probably find some other players, but I don't care much, I enjoy the silence in chat and if someone would try to pirate me etc. that's okay for me, it would be finally not an unshielded sidewinder pulling me out of SC...

I am currently trading in the direct vincinity of Sol (rarely get into Sol itself though). Not exactly a remote area you might think.
In most systems I only see NPCs. I usually play ~3h long sessions in the evening, usally I just see 2-3 CMDRs per session.
Yesteday I've actually found 2 CMDRs in the same system. That was the biggest crowd I've seen for 2 weeks.

I would expect that if I was at the edge of civilzation, but not in its center.

So much for MMO. And still people are complaining all over the forum about getting attacked by other players...

FD really should decide if they want a dynamic multiplayer game with player generated content (then they should provide the tools for that and it's probably not wise to split the playerbase into lots of private groups that don't see each other) or more a PvE centered solo experience (then they'll need to add tons of content to keep it interesting). Or both, but that will take a lot of effort to develop.
At the moment the fascination for ED lies solely in the great immersion the interface and the graphics create. That still keeps me going. But I guess that will wear off soon.

The crappy instancing system doesn't really help. I went to Mikunn yesterday to look whats going on there. Regarding to the forum thread there should be always some CMDRs around.. well I tell you what I saw......... nobody!

Get a bounty you will notice other players. I shot a wanted npc before i scanned him and my 200 cred bounty brought in the wannabes lol.

That said it may be your location like others have said.

Did you know in the station it shows how busy the station is so thats a good indicator :)

I got called the C word 3 times and a P word uncountable times by a certain commander who has been reported because I wouldn't attack his python with a viper I was mucking about with. I of course reported him but was also shocked at this kind of gutter bait talk. It was like playing DOTA. Fortunately it's pretty rare.

I hope ED take this stuff seriously, I dont block anyone as I don't want to mess my instancing up but the vitriol I was getting deserved a suspension. People being obscene or insulting will never get a fight from me even if I could beat them easily.
