Thank you Tom for this pleasant and dynamic interview. Through your words, we see once again that ED will be a great exciting game. What a great team of talented people at Frontier.

Hi Tom ..Great interview !!

As with the other other Dev team members interviewed you are immortalised in the history books on the kickstarter DVD :)

tom

BTW...Love what you have on screen I could do with some of that for some of the ideas im playing with

boot

Looks like I've got a new desktop background (or is that a bit too narcissistic?)

Ahh - so here's the guy that deals with "balance". Good luck to you.

Also, I too will have a whisky themed commander tag. Good choice, and since it's cold and dark outside, I might have a whisky tonight in any case. Cheers for the look in to the daily routine. *raises glass*.

I’d visit whatever planet Giraffes originally come from

Hi Tom.

What about Zombies? Zombies are pretty popular in games these days so will we bump into the odd zombie now and again?

"Aaawww, Awwww...." - That's my new zombie impression. Do you like it?

I don't know... David is always on about the grievance issue and how it would effect people. Well, maybe if you die you can come back as a Zombie and still keep your ship & stuff. It would be kinda weird I know because I ain't never seen a zombie in outer space before but I reckon it could really be the answer!

Are you listening David? Zombies are the solution !!!!!

woof woof!

I think for me it’s a tossup between the Viper and the Fer-De-Lance. The hard work from our art department has really paid off, I really love how both of those ships look in E: D!

Fer-de-lance...

I just wiped the drool from my chin. Can we see it? ;)

Good interview.. I have the impression that Frontier is a great environment to work in where people are enthusiastic and supportive. Its sad more places aren't like that.

It seems like there is quite a positive vibe going on at Frontier at the moment. And I also agree the forums here are pretty decent, notwithstanding my occasional outbursts.

Interesting not only is the Fer de Lance pretty much confirmed as a flyable but it is said to be cool:cool: And the Viper is flyable too! I know Ashley won't let you show the FdL yet so I won't ask for it. I want to know how well it handles, has the 30 or so year wait to fly one been worth it.

Great interview. Thanks especially for the comments on how to get into the game design space. I will keep these comments in mind as one of my kids has his sights set on a career in game design.

Nice interview :)

One thing I've noticed about these interviews is it seems the day in the life of a Frontier developer gets a new version of E:D to fiddle with each day, albeit incomplete, but still. I'm probably not alone when I say I'm jelly. Green jelly.

Interesting read, I was lucky enough to try a 30 year old Talisker a couple of years back which would rate as the best whisky so far, very elegant.

A good read.

The nights are drawing in. Hope Tom wears a flourescent jacket when cycling to and from work. Or emits bright and pretty particle effects.

Don't worry, he's picking a shield module in his rucksack ;)

Great read by the way as always. Really enjoy reading these. And so pleased there will (probably) be some kind of system whereby explorers can name things, or at least be mentioned in the details of whatever it is they discover :D

Those fer-de-lance images are awesome!

You mean contrails?

I thought that was the inside of animals (often used by mystics to predict the future)? ;)

You are not alone. The FD staff just can't help but drop that in to their interviews can they? They could at least pretend that the pressure is on, deadlines to meet, things not quite going to plan, 18 hour days, quality not good enough, DB on your back etc..... :)

@Mike - it sounds like you have a great deal of power when it comes to how the galaxy reacts to players - does that mean you could also affect an individual Player's gameplay (for example if there were particular forum members who dared to Photoshop you for their own amusement)? :)

I think you're thinking of entrails;) contrails or condensation trails to be absolutely correct are formed from water either condensing from the exhaust gas or condensing due to pressure changes. So perhaps there wouldn't be 'contrails' per se, but I'm prepared to believe that whatever engine technology they are supposed to be using might produce contrail like effects.

As for the comments aimed @Mike, well Mr Brookes has implied that certain players (ok I mean Psykokow) may experience sudden unexplained systems failures like a sudden absence of shields, engines and weapons systems.
