Newcomer / Intro Please fix the game... :(

I think the game could improve in a couple of ways:
1. Issue a warning when a player's balance gets below the rebuy cost. Very simple. Yes, people say the game's name is Elite DANGEROUS, but by that logic there should not be any warning for undeployed landing gear, proximity, impact, etc. Perhaps the radar also should go. Heck, if we remove the cockpit window it gets even more dangerous! No, a simple warning would solve a lot. Most of these sad stories come from ignorance, not miscalculated risk.
2. There should be a way to transfer money between players. That could help players in financial problems. The 200k limit is totally artificial. Anyone would be able to pay off a loan within minutes by downgrading their rebought ship.

Stop sulking and man up. Ramming is part of the game, as is trade economics. You put all your eggs in one basket. They broke, make an omelette and get over it.

An Elite Anaconda crashed head-on into the front of my Asp yesterday, and the canopy was only cracked, but not broken, and I still had 18 % hull left after the crash. My shields must have absorbed most of the kinetic energy.

Last time I collided with a Sidewinder, it went boom and my shields lost one ring on the hologram.

So maybe - just maybe - there is something wrong with the game here? I can relate to the OP that this kind of result was not to be expected from a collision with a much smaller ship.

I respectfully draw attention to this quote posted today by Michael Brooks, clearly there is a recognsed problem with colisions, not sure if the OP's issue is the problem but:

As well as the new features we’re continuing to fix and investigate issues, some fix highlights include improvements for AI docking and the docking computer, better handling of ship to ship collisions, balancing dumbfire missiles and shield cells and balancing of heat generation by weapons.

My python, with full shields and 4 pips to system was ram killed by a human viper in 2 passes (first took out shields and 30% hull, second ram destroyed me).

It happens which is why if I don't want to start from scratch I make sure I can cover insurance 6-10 times over.

I've been playing Elite for about 3 weeks now, Started small and been trading my way up through various ships until I finally got an ASP. 6 million credits takes a bit of playing in solo mode to afford.

So tonight I take my fully loaded out ASP out for a trade run. I got interdicted along the way and thought "great finally some combat action to test my loaded ASP on". A few minutes later and I'm staring at the bankrupt screen. Yep I had a full load of expensive ore and a stupid ship with NO shields rams me with my full A5 shields up and I blow up???

Losing a 6 million credit ship with about 8 million plus in upgrades to a tiny ship ramming me is insane.

I've been playing space sims for 25 plus years now and never seen a lack of a saved game to go back to especially in solo mode.

My only options are to declare bankruptcy or start over with the beginner ship? I've got 8 million in ship upgrades and my credit limit is 200,000 credits???

Are you kidding me????

This is really messed up and a game ender for me. No way I'm going to scratch back from a tiny ship to where I was until this gets fixed.

What a waste of time and money on my part.

Massively disappointed in a most promising game. :(

Please fix the ramming and obvious flaws in the collision mechanics.

Please allow for more options to save and or restore previous saves or at least a more reasonable credit structure.

This is ridiculous I feel ripped off.

Well, that was a tad careless of you wasn't it? You're probably the sort of person who'd say the same thing when they binned their car as well... ;)

Seriously though, I've only been playing since Alpha first came out and I only have my joyous Cobra with just an added fuel scoop and 80k to my name... the shields are on 17% and I'm carrying a cargo of rares (for the first time!)... I'm still enjoying myself though (mostly done exploring and bounty hunting up until now).

Basically, just get back in the saddle, steel yourself and get back in there... giving up is for softies! ;)

Have I just been lucky, or is running away from an interdiction easy?? Just submit by throttling back to 0 , full pips to engines, boost a couple of times, then frame shift away. This has worked for me every single time...

Generally okay, unless you are too mass locked and your Interdictor is human. I got too cocky one time and was taken down a peg or three! But the nice guy let me go with about 23% of hull okay when I dropped 20t of gold!

What system did you say you were in? I've never had a cargo hold full of rares before ;)

I don't see how that logic really pans out...

It is logical that a ships systems have certain safety features, such as landing pad warnings & proximitiy alarms. That's just common sense.

I don't see why the game should need to tell you how much of a risk it is to fly a ship carrying cargo that you cannot afford to replace if lost. That is one of those 'apart of life' things.

If the game, or life itself, were to put up warning messages around every risk taken, we would be spending more time dismissing warning messages then we would be living our lives.

Ironically, this is what would happen if everybody actually read the Terms & Conditions for every piece of software or forum they signed up with :D:D:D

I've said this before: It takes TWO ships making bad decisions for a head-on collision to occur in combat. Stop playing chicken with other ships, especially an NPC. I'm not calling anyone stupid... it personally took 3 deaths to get that through my head. If you survive a full-speed headon collision, consider yourself LUCKY. Do NOT add it to your list of "things to do to win in combat."

As to shields - a modern 20mm cannon shell weighs around 100 grams and can drop shields if you use enough of them. A ship weighs at least over 100 tons. Do some math, it's pure physics. When 100 tons of steel is flying directly towards your GLASS cockpit - MOVE.

Im sorry you feel cheated/ripped off.

Any research about this game and its predecessors would have shown that this is a key part of the game. Its by design, its an integral part of what makes the game what it is.

If your expecting a fix .... there will never be one.

Im sure Im not the first to point this out, and I doubt I'll be the last.

Two rules I always stick to :

- If you can't afford the rebut cost you can't afford the ship.

- If you can't afford to lose your cargo don't buy as much.

In general I don't buy a ship until I've got 3 times the purchase price in cash. That is still cutting it fine in some cases.

That's how the game is supposed to work more or less and I'm pretty sure loans are really meant more for the lower end of ships and it is assumed that by the time you're ready to fly an Asp or something equally expensive that you'll be more financially stable.

Good luck out there.

However, if you get to an Asp prematurely by reading up online guides on how to exploit rare routes then maybe a player can have an Asp and still be relatively new to the game?

I feel bad for the guy as it is really a nasty shock if you don't know the buy-back rules. The game should definitely not be changed as the risk/reward tension is all part of it but there should be a small tutorial on this to explain to the player that they need to check their buy-back price and keep that money in reserve so it's never a shock.

Yeah, mass seems to be wonky for collisions which yeah if people abuse it, like it seems it was done here by two players?

vipers have a hull mass of 60, asp a hull mass of 280.

Shields should take that into account on collisions, and don't seem to currently or at least not a lot. A shield made for shielding a bigger and heavier vessel, should be able to almost shrug off a vessel that's at 3 times lighter then itself hitting it at almost regardless of speed, sure shield would get damaged of course, and it might send the asp spinning. But other then that the viper should be splatted out, especially if they didn't have shield.

ramming

Yep I got rammed last night. Was winning combat and had taken my opponents ship down to <50% hull points and no shields. I had 100% hull points and 100% shields. He rammed me. I blew up. Lost all my explorer money and had to fork out loads of insurance, which i had... luckily. Otherwise I probably wouldn't be bothering to play again for a long, long time. Seems a bit wrong to be able to destroy any ship with max health and shields, with a crippled ship, just by ramming!
