I agree that it does appear to be a way to make yourself famous with less risk. Perhaps adjust the values if not playing in Open Play, so that the bounty on your head accrues at one tenth of what it would be in Open Play. Players would have to work a lot harder to build it up, or take the risk and go to Open Play instead.

yea nice mechanich but imagine this, one day u want to go hunt, and you see the first top 5 with 5kk bounty on his head, now you spend 6 hours traveling and waiting, and he never shows up, cus now he is on solo mode, even that he took 3 months
to build up that bounty, and you waste 6 hourst trying to hunt him down.

Its simple, you want fame? play only Open Play.

If you want to have a bounty on solo mode, np, but that bounty should only be shown on your PC on Solo mode.

24 hours in the day, and you want him to be on-line in the same 6 hours you are on-line? Good luck with that. :)

Totally.

Currently I could spend days looking for a player that actually lives in the other side of the world and I would never see because Im not playing at 5 in the morning or during work hours.

A timestamp of the last time they were seen along with the system of the wanted player could incite people to chase them. You would be able to see if the player is actually active or you are chasing a ghost!

It would be awesome to track these people down, it would improve the bounty hunting a lot! (which currently depends almost entirely on luck and freaking patience)

I would really like to do a private group but right now it is broken..me and my friend are never on the same server even though we are grouped, and have never been able to find each other or even chat it always says "Cannot connect to <username>"

Things change over time, games change.

But the diversity of human nature stays. Frontier will provide differing game modes because that makes them more money. Solo or Private group for those that don't like PvP, Open for those that do. You wouldn't expect collective agreement on the taste of Marmite, so don't expect PvE types to suddenly start enjoying PvP.

Cheers, Phos.

If I cannot play the same hours he can, thats my problem, but If I cannot find him even playing 24hs streight cus he is on "Solo mode) cus he dont want to be hunted, that sucks.

As I understand it there's a max 32 peeps in an instance. What are the chances of you being matched in with this person anyway? It's not the game modes that will keep you apart, it's the networking.

And how do u explain the top bounty of (cant remember the system name now) have being in the same system for the last 2 weeks :p
That player isnt playing on open mode.

And it is not the only case.

Either way, a Time stamp and a "online offline" status will improve that top 5 list.

Cus I would going to hunt them having the risk that the matchmaking will not work for me, but Im not going in a quest knowing that he could be happily playing on Solo mode :p

At least with my solution SOMONE will see him and try to hunt him down. if not me, someone will.

I'm happy with the game modes myself but I understand your frustrations; I'm just not sure that given the global player base and the networking limits (and variables like your internet connection and his internet connection and the vagaries of the matchmaking server) that you have any real chance of seeing him even if he plays in open and is in the same system as you are.

Yeah, and don't forget. If this guy's been hunting commanders, switching modes is not permitted, so he'll be in open. If he's got that for hunting NPCs he's probably not worth catching. As any PvPer knows, fighting NPCs is no skill. Not much fun in that.

Can you explain the "not permitted" bit, I genuinely don't understand.

I agree if the bounty was earned through PVP the odds are the player would be in open the majority if not all the time, and if it was earned PVE (group or solo) then no one is ever going to collect the bounty, and most likely we will never know which it was anyway.

Hard to say. Even when selecting open, the game won't put together players that don't have a good connection between them. So, anyone with a bad Internet connection, a misconfigured router, that plays while someone in the same house is sucking all the bandwidth torrenting things and watching movies, etc, is going to be playing alone even if he selected open and there are other players in the same system.

It's why trying to give benefits for selecting open is futile; any knowledgeable player would be able to select open while not allowing the game to actually match him with other players.

I can't find the reference now, but I have read that wanted players can not play in groups or single.

Open vs Solo play for traders

So I'm putting this here because this was the first time I was attacked/robbed by another player and I felt a bit noobish. If that was you, congrats, but that's all you'll get from me :)

It made me think though, if you're focusing on trading, what is the point of playing in the open version of the game? The added risk doesn't seem to have any accompanying reward as I've switched to solo mode and I make the same profit on my runs.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
