Kill Target Elite Anacondas and Viper 1.1

I was also getting kinda bored with how easy Elite Anacondas were to kill in my Viper. Now they're actually a challenge again. Forced me out of my comfort zone. Managed to kill one in my new Asp gunship (with some help from very late cops. just take your time, guys ಠ_ಠ ) ... but that hull repair ... jeebus. I think I'm going to hold off on doing any more assassinations until I have an optimum loadout. @_@

As above ... in terms of common sense it should be *extremely* hard for a small fighter to take down a 400 tonne heavy. There's a reason the Ana costs a thousand times as much as a Viper.

(Also a missile from an air fighter taking out a destroyer? The level of countermeasures on modern military ships is insane; it's possible but you'd have to get lucky).

Lol speaking about a bad analogy as it pertains to Elite Dangerous........How does that even make sense? Viper drivers were tanking Anacondas from the merge, not BVR ;)

Oh I know, most combat realism is completely lost in E:D due to fun value. No one would want to fight at all if you could get blown up at those ranges. Hell, no one would even undock. I was just putting a snip on that comparing the Viper to a PatCom thing.

I've always avoided the elite 'condas as they were so variable (easy through impossible). Decided to take on an "expert" one last night after two showed up in a USS (checked out both their subsystems and picked the easier looking) and, after a fairly long fight, beat it without any hull damage.

My initial worries about power requirements and timing for SCB seem unfounded, based off this one encounter.

I did twitch nervously a couple of times during the fight when it looked like we'd graze hulls (but even more so passing through the slot at stations!)...but thankfully missed!

EDIT: Flying a viper, sorry

I've seen anacondas taken down with 2 medium rails delivering 3 hits on the power plant, in a viper. Pilot took shields down with beams, then turned beams off and rails on and nailed it. It wasn't a big deal to manage the power - you don't need power to both weapon systems at the same time and it's pretty fast to change them.

[edit :This was in 1.1 btw after the power and heat changes]

Thats a bit like asking "Am I supposed to hunt a Destroyer in a Speedboat?". I think it is better now. If I am in a Viper and see a hostile Anaconda bearing down on me I want to think "Oh, potato not "Sweet, free credits".

Quoted for truth. In a 1vs1 situation an Elite Anaconda should eat a small fighter like the Viper for breakfast. While still asleep.

It was good they were so easy before, since the payout was awful. A dropship kill should be worth half a million easily, with Python being at 3/4 of a mil, and an Anaconda netting 1 mil minimum.

This game needs to reward bounty hunting better. Every pilot you see in an Anaconda isn't a brutal bounty hunter... he's a trader. This isn't right.

I have literally just quit and for the same reason.

I took on an Elite Anaconda. Its turn rate now is insane and it was nose on me pretty much as soon as I got behind it... That's new... And not inline with what the ship is meant to be able to do.

Also Chaff made sweet FA difference to its turret lasers.

Broken 1.1

And before anyone goes.. Get better.. blah blah..

I am good, I know how to keep behind it and I know how to deploy chaff to counter the turrets..

But if that doesn't work.. Its a freaking joke.

Also yet again.. Shield Cells are pointless now. 5 Second against these new, ignoring chaff, Eagle nibble Anacondas is a very very long time.

They're not gonna tell you to get good, they'll tell you to pick on smaller targets until you have enough money to afford something that can tango with a Anaconda. Problem with that is, with the level of income you can make bounty hunting, you'll die of old age first.

Exactly this. Being able not only to defeat, but more or less effortlessly farm Elite Anacondas with much smaller ships was one of the most disappointing things in the game so far. Let's face it, to be able to beat an Elite Anaconda, you should need have to at least Elite combat skills as well, and even then should need some ship that is closer to the Anaconda than a Viper...

When i see the video on tube, bounty hunting part 2, it was far too easy to kill a elite conda in a viper.

I think this is all preparing us for 1.2 in a month or so's time as by that point we can take wings of ships in to take these anacondas out. Hunting in packs is already possible - though not optimal. If they weren't made tougher, they'd be killed by swarms of battle bus haulers armed with popguns. As it is, they're designed to be tough in a 1v1.

I don't think that is a problem, nor do I think that everything should be balanced.

+1 The cry to balance everything is poison for the development of the game. I very much enjoy exploring, even though it definitely doesn't make me rich. Same goes for bounty hunting. It gives a little more money, but still not as much as trading. Perhaps we should look at it this way: trading may offer the largest margin of profit, but it's also the - IMHO - least exciting part in the game, so it's a fair trade-off :)

If you need chaff before 1.1, you're not "good".

The ships aren't buffed, just the intelligence of the previously idiotic AI.
Sheild cells previously made you pretty much invincible, how is that balanced? Just learn to deploy them premtivly, use beams on sheild and dumbfires on hull and you should be fine.

I agree. The rewards for kill missions should be that high since at the moment they are just not worth the time and skill.
