We deserve an Official answer from David Braben (I dont think he really knows what happened with 1.)

This is software development for *any* product, nowadays. :(

At least Frontier is responding to the worst ones with hotfixes and patches. They should have held off until the beta issues were resolved. I think they are under tremendous pressure to hit internal scheduled release dates.

It's hard to go in front of your customers and say it's not ready, yet. We all know it's easier to ask for forgiveness, then permission.

Yep I agree. There is a huge chasm between marketing and the people writing the code.

Have you played a multiplayer game before? I can't think of a single one that hasn't gone through at least one balancing pass after release.

Again if you read my post, patching of nerfing or buffing of ships what is a basic structure of the game should have been set in stone last year!

Shoulda

Coulda

Woulda

We aren't in that time anymore. We have to move forward.

Perfect example; we spent the last year writing a practice management software for the medical industry, primarily for doctors; now, 1 month before pilot-release (kind of like beta), management tells us they promised clinical to clients; something we did not intend to add to the product until some time later this year. What do we have to do? Add clinical. What devs intend, and what management intends don't always agree. Management makes promises; devs cry themselves to sleep when they find out the promises made. Management gets a hissy when they find out that the promises can't be kept. Devs cry themselves to sleep out of frustration. :p

No worries, lmao - ED has been compared to cars, boats and various other things. Why not ketchup? :D

Let's condense a bit then shall we?

Any direction would be better than going backwards.

Obviously obvious.

FD doesn't purposely have setbacks.

This setback has been a short one. The patches to the patch have come out and things are getting handled. After the dust settles the game will have progressed forward.

Right on. I'm enjoying the heck out of 1.1 and IMO the future looks bright for ED!

We need more people like this. I am also loving 1.1. I can plan routes up to 1k LY!! Are you kidding me?!?! that is so awesome its ridiculous. I used to have to sit in that stupid galaxy map for like 20 minutes to get an 80LY route. Now it takes like 1 minute to get a 1k LY route. Awesome.

I really think all these crying babies need to get a job at a software company so they can see how things really work. I work for a software company so I know how these things go. You can test for days and the build could seem totally solid, but you get one weirdo with some bizarre environment, and the thing bombs. Thats life and you in cry babies need to get your head out of your asses and realize that. It is 100% impossible to release a bug free piece of software, that is actually functional. Sure, you CAN release a bug free application, but it will be just a shell with like zero functionality.

I guess really the only other thing to say is, if you dont like or think theyre not doing a good job, go make your own game, with this scale, and see where you get.

For the ones that are dealing with the issues, keep on keeping on, Lol, cause this game is epic and its only going to get better!

Oh and PS, sure you can switch to SC, I have a few ships myself, but Im kinda in bored out of my face just standing in the GD hangar staring at the ships that I cant fly, and honestly by the looks of things, may never be able to fly. So that being said, at least you can fully play this game.

But customers are left with a bitter taste in their mouth (somewhat vinegar and tomato taste).

After dust settles it may be in their best interest to offer something to the players, like paint jobs, one-time merchandise credits, free character rename.

Read most of this thead (have a long commute) and have but one question.

Oi mods I got a slap and a post removed the other day for far less than some of the comments on here! Victimisation! I want a refund and a personal handwritten apology. Im entitled to it.

I'll get my coat...

I'm staying positive because DBOBE and FD did a marvelous job so far considering the challenges of the project.

Humans tend to be the most critical with those closest to them. Elite is an amazing game and the criticizing is coming from passion for the game. The only thing people hate is the thought of feeling abandoned for something they are enjoying so much. And there is much fear, possibly unfounded, that this game could get abandoned because it is so big and nearly unwieldy. I hope FD didn't sign up to make something that is bigger than them. It is a whole galaxy of 400 billion stars after all.

Easy one to answer. One team shipped code to affect a part of the game before the other team had a chance to fix the AI. Therefore the game is now way more sensitive to collisions with other ships while the AI is still just as cavalier while docking / undocking.

In my opinion a recipe for a perfect storm.
