Elite NPC Anaconda 1.1... Deary Me

Back in the days before 1.1, my Eagle could easily eat those Elite Anacondas for breakfast - in fact that's how I made my money at the beginning, by doing those well paid assassination missions. It was so easy, one day I decided to pull off an assassination with a Sidewinder and never did it again.

Now it's a whole new ballgame. Heard FD upped the AI, picked up an assassination against an Elite Anaconda and oh boy, my Eagle barely managed to penetrate Anaconda's shield. Chaff spamming only works to a certain degree now, delayed SCB effect definitely didn't help...it took me all four 2A shield cells and seven chaffs just breach the shield, and I had to switch to the backup 1A cells just to stay alive. Now the AI is so strong, it twisted and shook itself all over the place and keeping my Eagle at its tail was almost impossible.

Anyway, after a few minutes, my chaffs were gone and my hull was at about 37%, I figured it was not working out. My brain was not in my topgame shape today after flying heavy ships for so long, but it was clear to me that the game itself certainly got a lot harder. So I backed off and pulled out my own Anaconda, went back to the fight and to my surprise, the AI was actually out-turning me. If not for my double-chaff spam it would have certainly got the better of me. Focusing a bit too hard on killing it - my 'conda was outfitted for trading, so I had only three fixed class-3 pulses and a class-4 plasma acc for large targets, the rest was filled with seeker missiles just in case - I got distracted and forgot to juice my shield with the 2A SCB I had, and just before I finishing it off, the AI breached my shield.

Total pay+bounty 200k. Repair cost 500k.

Well, guess the easy days of eating Elite Anaconda NPCs for breakfast in my Eagle is over. Now I need at least a Viper to be remotely comfortable in fighting them. Good job on FD for enhancing the AI, though I think the pay for those assassination missions should also be a bit higher now....

I'm still trying to kill them with my Eagle, I keep thinking "Maybe this time I'll do it" but nope, can't even tickle their HULL anymore. :D

The RES/Combat Zone Anacondas are still doable tho.

Got interdicted by a Harmless NPC Anaconda earlier when outfitting my Eagle and staying at its tail was already difficult, though I managed to keep my shield up since backups arrived. Not during the assassination though, probably because the target belongs to a minor party in my employer's system. Back then I was able to get the kill even before the backups show up.

The only way possible now seems to be tickling the shield from afar with beams, then come up close to kill the drive and nuke the FSD. 900m butt-poking is definitely a past-time now.

Now we just wait for the ones who whined incessantly and made plot charts (sarcasm) and demanded radical changes to everything else besides the Ai or a few modules here and there be changed because it was too easy to start posting threads on why the current modules are useless and the Ai is too good.

This made me laugh loads.

The Anaconda AI get scared turns and runs away. Only there's an huge blooming rock in its path. Boom. I didn't even have time to fire a shot. No bounty for me. Hilarious ai though

I think it was good they upped the challenge - and bad they didn't up the reward to go along with the challenge.

So I can get 250k in profit from ferrying gold for a few hundred ls and effectively zero risk, or spend four times as long and a lot of ammo on a measly 170k assassination, where I run the very real risk of blowing up.

Before, the risk vs. reward was OK. Now, the fights have a lot more risk for the same rewards.

Combat definitely can use an increased challenge, but it needs a significantly increased reward as well. We got half of that.

Yup, now the scale is tipping even more toward trading, and that's the thing I'm worried about the most. Besides, there's STILL ONLY ONE type of assassination mission. My dream of dueling a pair of deadly Asps remains a dream for now.

It cracks me up when they do that. Scan em near a rock and watch them panic motor straight into it.

I'm guessing the bulk of the difficulty boost is that they've made small ships' weapons less effective against bigger targets. I don't know if this is related to weapon class size or ship tonnage though, but either way an Eagle's just not going to be able to scratch an Anaconda by itself anymore. Good change, by all means, but I wish they'd stop ing around waiting for the big missions fix and just tweak the existing ones whenever another game mechanic change affects them. That'll at least make the current ones worth taking while we wait for the whole reboot.

haha! :) The AI was been behaving strangely , i go to anarchy nav.point. with gold/palladium cargo for a carrot. Conda comes up, shes starts to scan me and taunting at me , " I see all! " Okey.. "Drop the cargo.. " Hmm , meh. " Very well you, You die now " Okey lets dance (I usually wait them to shoot first) "Unbelievable!" What its unbelievable dear pirate? "..must escape" ehmmm, are you ok ? "This is not my day to die" Well ok then , have good one. Not a single shot.

I think that Sarah Jane is going to be satisfied with her work.

“RING RING”
“Blackwater, how may I be of assistance.”
“Hello there, this is the US government! We have a job proposal for you.”
“Ok, let’s hear it then.”
“Well, we have this terrorist group that has approximately half a Billion USD worth of the most modern military equipment manned by highly trained elite (pun intended) forces and they are causing us quite a lot of trouble as you might imagine. We need you to take them out.”
“Ok, that’s quite a task. What kind of compensation are we talking about?”
“$200 000, after and only if you succeed. No costs or losses covered.”

Copy/paste from a certain article, pointing out the risk/reward issue in ED amongst other things.

I want to go attempt one of these in my clipper if I can ever find the kit I need to fit it out - I dont think a 6e shield and 4b shield booster with 2 gimbal class 3 pulse would be anything but the elite anaconda laughing manically and swatting me like a fly.

I used to kill them in my all a fit viper with no shield cells 2 small fixed beams 2 med fixed multi cannons which risk vs reward was about right and due to not using dumb fire missiles and shield cells was not exactly easy it was about the right fun level

Tried the same in ASP and Cobra previously and actually found it more difficult than in Viper so i am guessing that whilst its possible in a tricked out clipper that the end reward/time+repair will make it not viable as a money making route just for giggles kind of thing

I still think it's not good to be able to kill an Anaconda with a small ship. No matter how good the pilot of the small ship is. Anaconda should be the top predator and shake off all the little ones.
If you're in a Viper, you should need at least 5 or more buddies to have a fighting chance against an Anaconda. I hope the Devs are moving towards that.

It's on my to-do list to take a look at this, once I'm done with my new docking obstacle avoidance code and player line-of-fire avoidance code.
