My opinion on what FD need to do now.

I want to put up a quick post on what I think the devs need to do to point this game in the right direction.

I apologise if some of these things have already been covered (some, if not all of them most likey would have been), but this thread is simply about what I personally believe to be some of the most important things that need to happen in order to get this game on the right track, I understand that not everyone will agree and that is fine.

1) Stop trying to cater for everyone, and end up catering for no-one.

If you start the game in solo, you should stay in solo. If you start in group, you should stay in group, if you start in the ultimate open, you should stay in open. It should not be non-negotiable! No refunds no returns! It is not fair for people to build up wealth in solo without having to run the guantlet, only to turn up in 'open' to 'flash their bling'. You can not have your cake and eat it. FD need to make a FIRM STAND on this IMO. Other games have no mercy, and FD should not either! Are you insured?

2) Combat logging.

If you 'dissconect', or if you 'pull your cable', there should be a FULL ONE MINUTE pass where your ship is simply floating in space. No excuses and no mercy, no exceptions. There is no exceptions in any other game like this, FD, you are trying to -foot around the people who wreck this game. TRADERS NEED TO ACCEPT THAT THEY ARE PLAYING 'OPEN' AND TAKE THE ROUGH WITH THE SMOOTH!

And before the people who dont like what I am saying here come in to say their bit, if your internet is [masked swearing redacted - please avoid this thank you]or of you are having a night of bad internet, then do not play open to risk it. The majority of people will be fine, and this will definatly stop combat logging, better to fight with a chance than no chance at all.

3) The food chain.

Traders > Pirates > Bounty Hunters.

This to me, is one of the most important things that FD have to get right. (just in case anyone is wondering, I am bounty hunting)

If there are no traders, then there are no pirates. If there are no pirates then there are no bounty hunters (other than hunting bots).

WE ARE CURRENTLY LACKING IN PIRATES BY A LONG SHOT!

If they get ths right, then even without all of the content which people are complaining about, it will be FULL of content. This will truely flesh out the game without FD even having to lift a finger!

My idea of heading in the correct direction with this, is the following .......

1) Make Trading very profitable. This is the start of the food chain. Traders should be able to hire 'bots' to defend their ships throughout their run. Or pay more for experianced human players. "damn, protection costs x amount, means I wont make as much", but then they get ATTACKED by pirates! Glad they spent that extra money now as they see their 'escort' see off the pirates.

This also makes their mundain boring 'run from a to b' a HELL of a lot more exciting!!!!

2) Pirating should be very profitable at the expence of rep and danger. Can't just dock anywhere you want anymore, need to for pirate communities to get by, look at how Eve does this. No more combat logging because of the 'no mercy one minute rule above^^^'. There ARE NO PIRATES in the universe until this happens!! There are sooo many people that fancy themselves as pirates but can just tell right now that it is not going to work and so stay as bounty hunters.

Pirates suffer NO PENELTIES when selling thier loot and also get profitable missions that are NOT AVAILABLE TO ANY ONE ELSE. This is step 2 in the food chain.

3) Bounty hunting. Works fine. Somtimes the hunters become the hunted.

4) FSD cool down needs to INCREASE A LOT. When you jump into a system, there should be no quick escape. In eve, people use 'scouts' to see if there is danger BEFORE their jump, emulate this.

5) People play together, this should be encouraged! Fix voice communication. Have a system in place, where it is easy to 'find and communicate with' team players, and for god sakes, make it SIMPLE to find a friends WAKE if they are intridicted, or even doing a free lance mission. It should be easy for team players to be able to find themselves in the SAME WAKE any time they see fit.

I want to thank you everyone who has taken the actual time to read through this, everyone's thoughts and comments are more than welcome, although I do NOT condone anger or arguments, merely discussions and suggestions.

You say "Stop trying to cater for everyone", but then go on to explain why the should cater to you and your opinions. Like you speak for the entire player base or something.....

Easy fixes. Pirating - do NOT let people pay off their own bounties. That in itself would sort a whole lot of issues.

I agree with this almost ... why not make paying off a bounty a LOT more expensive? (and i mean a LOT)

Of course, they will have to fully address 'accidental fire', but yes I agree with you!

Accidental fire should get fixed, yes, or before that happens - say, "bounties accumulated while interacting with other players" should not be able to be paid off, but versus NPCs yes. Easy differentiation anyhow.

They already have made a FIRM STAND on this, around the time of the kickstarter, and that's why we have mode switching available. I enjoy having my cake and eating it. Too bad you don't :)

Curious, are you a trader? If you want to be a trader without the possibility of being pirated, then you should not be playing in the 'open universe', in my personal opinion.

If the other professions are to also thrive, then you have to open your eyes to the fact the traders have to be pirated at some point. I have made suggesstions on how the 'score could be balanced back in favour of the trader', pls just at least give it the thought it deserves.

Question. Before you came up with your 'personal opinion' (which you decided was so personal that everyone should have it foisted on them) did you bother to do ANY research? From your OP, I doubt it.
 
Number 1 has been confirmed its not changing over and over and over again, there's even a 80+ page thread discussion on it. To reiterate its unlikely to EVER change EVER, it was designed that way, implemented that way and is "working" as intended. Harsh but deal with it.

Number 2 Is "impossible" to achieve because of the way the game uses P2P, FD wont allow your ship to be left controlled by a 3rd party that they have no control over and the lack of central authoritative server to pass control of your ship means that when the plug is pulled you will cease to exist. The reason that the 15 second timer works is because your client physically remains connected for the 15 seconds. They have stated that they will deal with this via telemetry as per the large stickied thread at the top of the forum.

If pirates looked after their food chain instead of peeing in the drinking water (excuse mixed analogies) then Open would be a better place for everyone and you would not need to make requests for grand changes.

Go out there and be the Pirate/Bounty Hunter you aspire to be, and deal with all the trash that make traders wish they had traded in Solo. (Not that there are that many of them, of course. - Solo Traders and Trash pilots, that is.)

We have modes, because we have modes. Because. Without them, this game would not have become reality at all. Cope with it. Some people love the lore, but they don't want to interact with anyone whatsoever for any reason whatsoever. Deal with it. If you can't live with that, find another game.

This game was NOT made so that you, me, or anyone else could interact with anyone else. It was made for different reasons. Multiplayer is just a later added gimmick.

I think the OP makes some good points.

Basically there is no incentive to break the law; pirating isn't profitable enough and is too much hassle. Make all cargo scooped "salvage", leave a small number of cargo canisters intact after ship destruction, and give us pirate bases :)
 
I don't think he was saying that you weren't allowed an opinion, he was just implying that your opinion was wrong.

Actually, I was trying to imply that just by saying 'this is personal opinion' the OP seems to think it protects him from any incoming criticism. Something that is reinforced in his last sentence where he says he does not condone argument. I get the feeling that he only wants discussion so long as it agrees with his personal opinion.

Number '1' should be changed because it is not working. At all.

If they can program the 'time you are still in the universe when you dissconnect to 15 secs', then they can change it to a minute!
