More Memories

During My C64 days - I became frustrated with Joysticks breaking / failing - and the increased cost from a standard joystick - to 1 with auto fire - so in the end - I made my own joystick using a case from a purchased one - and an analogue module for controlling remote controlled planes - and I made my own inline auto fire module - so I could turn a normal joystick into 1 with auto fire -

Pics are here...

The Competition Pro joystick was built like a tank with arcade style micro switches (so they weren't that micro!) had an auto fire built in.

It got used so much for Denaris that I would get blisters on my thumb from toggling it all the time.

I still have a few of those lurking about, both clear and black, along with the beloved Quickshot 2 with autofire!

Had to throw both mine away last month... :(

The sticks themselves were physically fine, but the cables had begun to perish!

I had a competition pro, it was a superb stick. Eventually gave up the ghost. I also remember playing games like Daley Thompsons Decathlon which was just brutal on joysticks.

Yeah, I originally had the quickshot II but never used it for Elite. Preferred to use the good old Speccy keyboard with the rubber keys. :)

I do remember having to fix the return springs on one joystick as they would eventually break. Can't for the life of me remember what game I was playing though.

Hahaha! The amount of joysticks I've destroyed those days was mental. They really made joysticks cheaply then too, really badly constructed things that weren't made to last.

I actually threw my flight stick once years ago after failing a mission in starlancer for like the 15th time. Snapped it in two. Not my proudest moment.

I too favoured the Competition Pro 5000 above all other joysticks. It was tough, robust, and very simple. I had both versions; with micro-switched fire buttons and without. Miss those old joysticks. :p

Wasn't one of those sticks marketed a little while ago with an old school console embedded into it with a load of games to boot?

Nothing like the sound of click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click as you duck and weave your space ship :D

Aaaaaah the old Joysticks..... black.... one button, one stick....

Now they have 49 buttons, 7 languages, personalised palm print and seat adjustment recognition and even give you a vigorous back rub..... IF they detect you have had a stressful day...

An intelligent joystick. Just what you need in the middle of a dogfight.

"Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over."
