OK, this might sound weird, and I think I want to be talked out of it but....

....I am considering wiping my save and starting again....

I play solo 95%+ of the time, and have worked my way up to a 50 million Asp and about 18 million still in the bank. Took alot of trading.

But...

That's pretty much all I did. Sure, I had a few scraps, but I'm Novice in combat rank, and haven't ever really tried to take on another commander.

Have I missed the "fun" part of the game? Sociability (even if it's in fights)? Danger (not much in Solo)? Jumping on the trade conveyor belt? Although I've stepped off this lately, I still think I might have maybe gone a bit too far too fast, and missed out on alot of what people here on the forums talk about all the time...

Q&A:

YES, I have had a few beers.

:p

Ist.

Do not wipe. I have about 70 mil and spend alot of time fighting in a Cobra and Viper. just because you have pkenty of money does not take fun aWay. I have still lost more than a few ships in combat.

Use the money to experiment and drop into open or a group like mobius.

Hi,

I know this is most likely going to end up in a solo vs open thread, but you should give open a go, and here's why:

I play open and have met, give or take, 10 players online. Just because you're in open doesn't mean you'll be attacked at every opportunity. I play every night with the same group of people, we all have a common goal, we've all joined the same faction.

Maybe all you need is a goal? Join a group of players who are trading/fighting etc to change the allegiance of a star system.

If you're in the Aus/NZ timezones or even Asia Pacific in general, drop me a PM.

Don't wipe. Do what I did fit out an eagle and pop down to your local nav beacon. Or drop into open and see what happens.

Store your ships, buy a hauler and jump to backassnowhere across the map from where you are now. Arrive, sell your hauler and buy a sidewinder. Start afresh, ignoring your current credit balance.

This way when you sober up you can properly decide whether to continue on your new path or limp back home.

I had that thought once. Then I thought like the ydid, don't wipe, just get a Sidewinder and play with it for a while. Then I thought If I want to play with a Sidewinder, just go do the tutorials again. doing the tutorial missions, 'cured' me.

Have a whiskey first. But why would you want to wipe and start over when you pretty much have worked to to a great foundation for other activities ? Strip out the Asp for exploring for example, and buy a dedicated Viper hunter on top ? Trading is a means to an end to fund other activities. And after tonight I have to say I've managed to finally get comms running between Solo and Open with other CMDRs so even the social aspect seems to be moving in the right direction (albeit still slower than I'd like). Stick with what you've built up, would be silly to throw it away. Example: tonight I finally bought a Python despite the nerf, and I feel positively spoilt now in comparison to the T7 I was running for trade routes. I am finding even the little things are starting to make a difference if you let them and Lord knows I've had my gripes in the past.

I started in the Cobra, but did have a Sidewinder back in Beta testing. Recently I bought a Sidewinder, but then did pimp it out to A-grade for around 1mil, so possibly not the full 'start over'. I play open anyway, but did get a couple of player interdictions in the Sidey that I've not seen happen in the Cobra or T6, who no doubt figured I was a noob player/trader. One I escaped (just), the other I died and I think the insurance rebuy was 50k/60k, aka relative peanuts and not as painful as losing the Cobra.

Click on Open Play and get yourself to Yembo... you don't know what your missing.... :D

Like others have said, there is no need to wipe. ----I traded hard to get to a nicely fitted cobra. When I had enough credits, I I bought a sidewinder and went to another system to buy a viper to hone my combat skills. After bounty hunting for a month, slowly getting better and upgrading the viper to A class, I was feeling a little burned out so I bought another sidewinder went back to my cobra and traded both for a type 6 and went trading again. All this time credit wise I stayed with about a 2M cushion with my balance to be sure I had enough to pay insurance ( which I did several times in my viper)
Then Techne hit with SL and I jumped there for about a week and built up to a type 7. Once that dried up I took the type 7 to another system and started real trading again. I got the urge to do rares, so I went to Jameson and bought an Asp and did rares for a week. Then back to the type 7 for a week and for the past few days I went back to my viper.
So long story short my suggestion is to buy a viper and adopt a system and do some bounty hunting to get better a combat --- I'm suggesting viper because even though the eagle is fun and inexpensive the shields are week and the hull is paper thin ---the cobra is nice but it cost twice as much to equip it to
A class than the viper, then branch out --buy an Asp run rares out of Lave for some excitement ---you should have enough combat skills by then to protect yourself --beware though the Asp is expensive to repair and buy back, so you don't want to learn combat in an Asp
My viper is in Ross 210 ---there are 10 stations in that system with 4 factions -- there are lots of other systems within 12Ly to play ===a good place to bounty hunt
Have fun and branch out

Wipe it! Play open ironman. Whole new experience completely changes the game. By the time you get bored with it updates will come along and give you real long term goals so amassing wealth won't be as pointless. The high point of the game is the early going when your struggling and cautious, so spend more time doing that. Trading loops will never be as fun as "oh my god I need x or they are gonna take my lunch money" And even combat gets old when you stop considering danger and instead start focusing on time to kill vs payoff.
