Putting my ship in storage and checking out until there is a game to be played.

I pause also... The game lacks content. Sure, there are a lot Cmdr out there that enjoy to collect money or to pirate things ( no offense ) but i wish to see more fleshed out missions and a living universe. Its static... to be honest. I think it will take at least 12 to 20 months to implement all the missing stuff. Not to speak of expansions like planet landings or FPS.

I take a look every 4 months back in. Do a few rare runs an a little fly pratice. But not more. Because there is no more to do. Missions are dull and PVP with my Asp against an Phyton gives me nothing. Not to speak of the Logofskies...

FD please tune in and it would to you good to communicate with your player base.

Just my 2 cents.

Keep flying save out there Cmdrs

I also already not play anymore. I had two hours with 1.1 and gave up. More from the same.

Just come to the forum from time to time hoping to see some post from devs indicating that some content and variety will be added to the game.

The game changes have been a pain, today I did a rare's run and got to my destination with 35% hull left, I did not know that since the last update I had limited shield cells and my power distributor is now not able to shoot weapons as before. Costs have gone up for my Asp also.
Not much fun for a trader anymore which is what I prefer, instead the changes are to make it easier to get killed by players.
They needed to be an easy read heads up of the changes with tips, instead of finding out the hard way.
It all a bit reactionary from FD to cater for what I think are minority of players who want to play like that, very soon the majority may go do something else.

The game is soulless and empty. The problem is that there is nothing to do, really. This is strictly speaking not the truth but it feels so because you can not influence anything anywhere in the game. That there are many, many design decisions that are ruining immersion is also not helping and even worst they may be killing the game outright.

What can I do in the game? I can fly between station and shoot. That is all. Even that is limited. Can I be generous and spare the life of an attacker? No. Does a pirate flee from superior force? No. Why doesn't the Empire for instance interferes in the slave rebellion, by sending in a fleet? If there would be outside influences aiding a slave rebellion on a planet I bet the NAVY would interfere. How can a group of rugged pilot's defy the will of the federation? No they can't. Why getting the rank of Baron in the Empire does not give me some privilege? It is cosmetic. Nothing changes. By the same right I could say that I am helping the Zorxians and I have gained the rank of Bloxmorf and now I will be able to do exactly the same things....

Just imagine the following. If in peaceful regions there would be much more tolerance for minor offenses but more consequences for violent behavior. For instance the security forces would try to capture you instead destroying you. If for instance you would be just punished not destroyed for minor offenses (it could be serious punishment - monetary or here's an idea: how about forcefully being drafted into the navy).

Now you come to a war zone. The station announcer would warn everybody like:
"NOTICE THE STATION IS UNDER MARTIAL LAW." Or you wold be forced to wait for a few minutes not allowed to enter the station until scanned, or have to wait for a navy shipment to pass out. Just looking at it would be glorious. By the way here you have some chance for mischief as well. Then you witness the station batteries open fire on one of the ships. It would be rare it would be TERRIFYING (now: bah seen it 8 times while docked at Mars station in 15 minutes).
The battles would rage all across the system not at predetermined sites. Even the station itself may come under attack. Imagine taking off and trying to leave the station as you see a desperate battle raging outside. Parts of the station burning. The front lines wold be moving and you could see who is loosing or winning. You could listen to the news in the station lying about the war - you would know - you are coming from outside. Then when somewhere there is a war it would feel like a war.

YOU would be instantly there.

The game is boring. That's is that. I have desperately tried to like it, and still trying to...

The problem is that the universe is empty. Nothing changes at all... All the elements are here but they are flawed. You have no effect on anything. Let me give you a couple of examples.

1. X rebirth. An atrocity of game at release. A bad console port. The developers are patching away at it however. The game is getting better and better, by every patch. It is still better than ELITE. Why do you ask? That feeling when you dock in a MASSIVE transport vessel and give an order to the captain for a jump then watch through the front windows as your massive ship jumps. It is incredible. Than while scanning the station (a ultra stupid and boring thing to do), suddenly a huge transport ship slowly and majestically fly's by you, then releases a swarm of drones and start to unload/load itself. These are incredible jaw dropping sights. In this game you really matter. You change the universe to your will. You can literally destroy massive stations, build whole space cities. The construction of new massive ships are also simulated. Raw materials need's to be manufactured and delivered, for the ship to be built. And so on. The funny thing is: it may all be an illusion (meaning the need for material and such are not simulated), but you are fooled, so it doesn't matter.

2. Ancient game Space Rogue. It happened to me while trading. So scanners detect 3 contact's. Let's check it out. A large transport ship is being attacked by pirates. At my arrival the pirates acknowledged my existence by sending me a message to keep away or be destroyed. Then they keep hammering the transport vessel. The transport is sending SOS messages, more and more desperate. The messages are not random. They correspond to the ship status like "Mayday, mayday our shields are failing." or " God the shields have failed somebody help us we will all die." - when their shields failed. Then I decide to interfere. I open fire on one of the pirates. I receive a message stating that he will eat my heart. Then we start dancing around each other. The other pirate keep attacking the transport. Suddenly an imperial cruiser jumps into the area. Both pirates immediately try to disengage. No attempt to fight the warship. They try to flee immediately. One of them is unlucky he is in the range of the warship and is destroyed the other one flees. The cruiser shields the transport whit is own body and then contact me to move on. So I comply and jump out. Here are a thing to fuel your imagination. This all happened in a game almost 20 years ago.

Now somebody said to me that this can happen in Elite too. No it can't... You are missing the details, the important details. Like: pirates never flee unharmed, and such. In ED everybody is mad. Like dying have no consequences (we know it does not, but at least have some consequence for the NPC's), no suspension of disbelief is possible.

Many of the game mechanic are stupid. Like sneak into a space station for smuggling. What? WHAT? No station would allow any ship to dock while the said ship is not on the scanners. If anything I would open fire immediately on any ship trying to approach my station while ACTIVELY trying to evade MY OWN SECURITY forces. Again shattering my disbelief. What about destroying ships INSIDE the station? Come on...

Well the problem is that the game is sooo close. So damn close. The graphical design is excellent (I even like the antiquated menus on the station), not to mention the sound. But that is all. Nothing to do. Nothing to do at all.

And for the last part, to "preanswer" some of the criticisms:

I write this because I care. I know the game is most likely not for me, and perhaps I would be more happier playing some other game, so I agree whit you. Yes I am entitled. I PAID MONEY so that is entitling me. No I hate handholdning in games. I do not want achievements. Ah yes I know how to play the game.

The most ironic thing is that I reinstalled the original elite. It is more fun still... I encourage everybody to try it again.

PS sorry for the really long winded post.

I am not bored yet but I think the big problem is indeed some sort of missing storyline or campaign. I don't know why they didn't implement one...

Because any campaign implementation would provide easy camp spots and make it even easier to grief people. Seriously, please set fire to your computer for wanting a readymade campaign tree in Elite...

The game is soulless and empty*snip*

What he said. The game feels more like they should be selling the engine/galaxy to someone who can fill it with something interesting to do. Its akin to a tech demo. Its awesome, and SO close, but no soul. I so want to love this game.

Why do people say this like joining a group of PvEers will provide more content? The game is basically a solo game with too little content.

Basically a solo game I'll grant you, but it's got plenty of content as a solo game for a lot of people. If some of them get a bit more from Open then bully for them.

If it's not everything that everybody wants all of the time then we can only paraphrase Abe...

I'm not arguing that people shouldn't want to PvE together, just that if you are bored, a PvE group isn't going to help because there are few situations that really require multiple people. I can think of a handful but they are not particularly interesting, such as doing assassination missions in undersized ships.

Well said cmdr, it's so empty and lifeless. Devoid of excitement and full of bad design decisions. In my heart of hearts I fear that it will never achieve its potential.

I'm also struggling for a reason to log in.

I'm from the original generation, achieved Elite status on my BBC model B, and whilst I appreciate the efforts FD have made to be true to the original it feels like that's all they've done - created a clone of a 30 year old game without really adding anything new of any substance except some average graphics. Sure, I loved it at first, made Competent and made my first twenty million doing missions, bounty hunting and rare trades but then it just became a grind and soulless. The bugs have been an issue but worse than that fundamentally there just isn't an engaging game here to be played at the moment. Playing open is a chore because it's full of idiots that just want to grief or pirate you ("Hell I'm playing ED my way sucker!").

Big shame really, I'll check back in a few months but for now I'll go see what gameplay is being offered elsewhere. Nostalgia eh, it's not what it used be ....

Yeah, I hate it when games get boring after a couple of hundred hours or something. They should put more game in the games these days.
