Putting my ship in storage and checking out until there is a game to be played.

The problem with this game as I see it is that it was never supposed to have a story. This is fine, the original Elite didn't either but since you were never supposed to be the leading charachter the idea of being a small cog in a big machine was supposed to allow you to affect the universe and the combined contributions of all the players would have an overall effect. In turn the game itself was supposed to provide stuff that players could interact with and steer the story. In other words there is supposed to be stuff to interact with but no universes to save. This all sounds fntastic on paper but so far we have not seen anything to interact with. There is a build structure there for buying bigger ships but nothing to actually do with them once you have them other than save for your next one. Using your imagination does not cut it. In 2015 if you are going to make a decision like that you had better be careful you provide something very strong to keep players interested. If you are going to forego story telling then the simulation should be so full of stuff to do and interact with it should keep you immersed and very busy.

Imagine GTA with no storylines or side missions. GTA with only rampage icons and race icons to interact with. That is what we have in ED right now. Those who choose to believe this is the way the game is supposed to be and that the rest of us don't get it will be eating their words when alternatives are introduced because they will. A real mission system will eventually arrive because this game will not survive without it. It is impossible for it to continue indefinitely without something to actually do with those ships you have earned and the bulletin board was only ever going to be a gap fill at best. To think that is acceptable as the backbone of a game in 2015 is just not good enough. I am not saying we are going to get videos and cut scenes but we will get arching scenarios and more interesting things to interact with. If you watch the dev videos this was always what was implied.

So far though we have not seen any new content. Wings, new ships and what we have seen so far is not content. It is merely fixes for features that were supposed to be there on release but didn't work. Next month we will not see any actual new content either and when the player base has to wait a full extra month again after that and there still is not any new content 4 months after release then people will start to become very impatient. ED is very much behind. Comparable games would be starting to release DLC by now while ED is still trying to patch basic functionality like communication and multiplayer interactivity that was supposed to work upon release. Even then there will not be any actual things to do together once it has implemented. Content needs to be added quickly because if you think the moan posts are bad now, just wait until 2.3 is released...

Sold my Python, bought a decked out Asp, and banked the remaining 200 million. The Asp is parked in landing bay 2 while I play Galaga in the space lounge. Commanders need time off too, and that is what I will be doing until something comes along.
Did pretty much the same.

The game feels more like they should be selling the engine/galaxy to someone who can fill it with something interesting to do. Its akin to a tech demo. Its awesome, and SO close, but no soul. I so want to love this game.
I agree with this. It has immense potential, but its still just bare-bones. Barely any content.

Only 2 types of missions (go to X, or go to X and kill Y). Fly around space. Get ranks, which dont matter (few % discount on Elite-rank? wow thats so immersive). Get faction ranks, which matter even less (you get system permits to systems that are the same as every other system). Some ships are completely useless (Dropship, Orca). System is in civil war? here have these USS-like instances that spawn infinite ships until some arbitrary meter reaches a certain point. When you're done fighting, fly to a nearby station in complete safety to re-arm and repair.

I could go on and on. Bleh.

I still don't understand why people feel the need to make these posts. So you are bored, so you are leaving. Do you honestly feel that informing everyone on the site that you have chosen to bail out will achieve anything? Really I struggle sometimes?

When the forum is only happy people and if nothing has changed the game is dead. Look at it that way.

Aren't you all enjoying the "dynamic, ever unfolding experience"? How about the "rich" experience multiplayer offers?

ED was a great crowd funded campaign, to fund Coaster Park Tycoon and the next titles FD will bring to the Xbox. Well played David, I didn't see that coming, which was the whole idea wasn't it?

Damn the torpedoes full steam ahead!

Which is quickly coming to pass...........

You are right... we miss content. A few new ships or wings add nothing new to the game. Only the same with another look. Its not trolling or bashing. But over the last few months people like me loose interesst. Many who write here care for the game. So don't laugh at them.

Homeworld remake is released soon and you can get home world 2 with it. That will keep me busy while FD add the furniture.

I never completed the second one.

I loved home world cataclysm too, it was awesome

Elite has got this same structure all these years. I have been waiting this kind of game for years. I don't understand complainers who don't offer any suggestions how to make it better, but only complain game is dull. While you are leaving you could atleast tell us what kind of content do you want to make this game better for you, otherwise you seem to be just like other griefers out there.

well first of all the people who criticize also post ideas for improvement, just need to read the forums; also check this to see what should have been in game and yet just the bare minimum made it:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=36

add the bugs to this mix and wonder wonder why so many are unhappy.

Braben is so into Text Adventures but his Elite Dangerous has no story, Braben stop telling people in interview that u r text adventure fan

I am not bored yet but I think the big problem is indeed some sort of missing storyline or campaign. I don't know why they didn't implement one....
Because they didn't want one?

I really don't understand what people are expecting when they say the game is boring and soulless and what not (I'm being serious, not snide or condescending); because I'm having a ball travelling from one station to another, trading goods; but then, I really enjoy simulation games, to give you an example, I can spend days playing Euro Truck Simulator 2. Put on the radio, and drive a truck across Europe. Epic. :)

they're expressing their own opinions about a product they bought that they are somewhat disapointed in, isn't that what forums are for (amoung other things) why do you want to stifle free speach? and why do you think you should express your own opinion but prevent them expressing theirs?

Mods will clean up on overly duplicated threads or just let them sink, which is far easier and happens faster if you dont post in them ;)

i think you nailed it with the euro truck simulator reference :D

I'm from the original generation, achieved Elite status on my BBC model B, and whilst I appreciate the efforts FD have made to be true to the original it feels like that's all they've done - created a clone of a 30 year old game without really adding anything new of any substance except some average graphics.

They did way more than update the graphics. There's much room for improvement with the fetch missions, add random events and more variety with station interiors, space traffic. The 1.2 update will make multiplayer much more fun with groups.

i really want to believe 1.2 adds to the experience but also worry it will just be "now you can search countless USSs with your friends"

Same here. Haven't touched my ship since 1.07.
It is BORING !

Yes, we do need content and the possibility to contribute to something.
And yes, we (the persons, who critices something) are here, because we think that otherwise nothing will change fast enough.
We (if I am allowed to say this), have bought the game, because we had high expectations and a certain love for this genre.
If FD waits to long with really something new, the player base will erode quickly IMHO.

This is why: Because they care. They love the game, they sense that there is an incredible game buried under the mountains of bad design decisions.

This game is bristling with potential - unrealized potential. The frustrating thing is that small changes would really, really make it into a brilliant and unforgettable game.

So people feel it, and they are frustrated... Those who do not care simply leave quietly. I do know all my friends (who tried this game) are in the do not care category.

I have read somewhere on the forums:

"This will be the game epitaph: I could have been a brilliant game."

I parked my ship weeks ago. Tested a bit of 1.1, realized it was a lazy "more of the same" and gave up again.

The worst part of this, is that I have lost faith in FD : they don't seem to be capable of changing the game. They are investing everything on grinding, decreasing the return of every activity and avoiding any meaningful content. Every decision they take screams "we have no idea of what a modern sandbox game is: here's another slightly different way to grind money to buy a slightly different ship".

Moreover, many design flaws are now beyond repair (like the P2P connection model).

This game won't get any better, I fear.
