Since Gamma I stayed away from exploring due to the fear of the bugs. But since V1.1 I have made enough credits with my T9 to buy an additional fully kitted out Asp for exploration and I am about 5 days into my voyage of the near by Nebula's
I have visited quite a few along the way and I am currently at the Horsehead Nebula, one that I have imaged many times from my backyard telescope.
Exploration is amazing, the colours once you get out to the nebula's, the views, the relaxation of being out there alone brings a whole new meaning to ED. One that buzzing around the common areas just doesn't show. There is so much more to ED than just trading and flying between the same stations, or hanging around nav points bounty hunting. Yes I have done all of these since gamma and I needed a change and I am so glad I did.
400 billion systems : Well I will tell you now, go near the nebula's on the galaxy map and you will be surprised how many of them have already been bagged by players. I have visited over 600 systems in 4 days and have only found 5 systems that no-one has been too. Granted, I am visiting the popular nebula regions, but the Orion Nebula has over 2000 systems and all of them have pretty much been discovered by someone. Quite amazing and I guess in 12 months time you will have to travel very far and very remote to bag a new system for yourself. One of the reasons I set off now exploring to get my name on some systems.
I am doing quite well, no major issues once I got past the Plieades region with interdictions and haven't seen a NPC for 300 systems now.
I use the Oculus DK2 and the views are amazing, having to drop to a flat screen to take this pictures was painful
A few piccies of the HorseHead region. Rendered amazingly well and just as I imagined.
So I urge you, getting bored of ED and the grind ? Need a change ?
Kit out an Asp and set off out and see what more ED has to offer. Who knows a few weeks later when you reach civilisation again, they may have added more features
