Guilty as charged!
Although I made up for it by crashing into the station wall and losing my cargo :D

Lol I was hoping for a short story about how it made you feel, with maybe a hint of sorrow regarding the teapot that had been in the family for 6 generations :), maybe next time.

Fair play though for giving it a whirl even for a short time, and it is just a matchmaking change so yes it is "unoccupied space" rather than "barely occupied space" in relation to other people (away from main areas).

If we are allowed to clear our consciences by losing a greater amount in silly accidents than we made in Solo (or groups, gotta remember groups, they are a little neglected here other than in the title of the thread, I feel compelled to mention Mobius PVE group, I think its > 4k now), then I should be fine too, my CR are clean. My copilot on a Friday and sometimes Saturday night is known as CMDR Redwine, we get along fine but sometimes his influence affects me a little :).

CMDR Redwine was responsible for talking me into trying smuggling after watching the FA/OFF guy (CMDR Ionosa? sorry if I misspelt) in the newsletters (that guy or gal is good, I am not lol), that only cost me a viper, I even started a thread (darwin awards) as I had a couple of stupid accidents that I though would make others smile too, so I think I lost more than I made in Solo so far too.

if I ever met you in real life I would buy you a beer

I was thinking about this again earlier today, along with the post that made me ROFL & some other posts both you and I have made in this thread recently.

I think the main thing we disagree on is that FD are going to change the matchmaking at some point in the near future, and I am sure we will discuss it for weeks to come and still disagree.

How about a little friendly virtual bet just for fun, one ton of gold, In ~ a year's time lets make a date to meet up if we are within say ~ 100 jumps (50 each meet in the middle somewhere, I would be happy to spend an hour or two just jumping & scooping to meet up now route planning is better), hopefully DLC will be here and we can meet in the bar for a virtual beer & virtual chat, even go fly in a wing for an hour or two, that would be fun.

If FD did split the matchmaking so that we can't change "modes" you might have to wait a while as I would have to start a new CMDR for open, earn enough for a decent FSD, buy that ton of gold and deliver it if I am incorrect, I really hope my understanding is correct, it would mean we could meet up on equal terms, settle the bet rather than me having to grind a sidey or hauler from nothing, just meet you in open @ x place @ y time, we could buy cobra's or vipers and PVP for a bit for giggles if CR transcend the "modes", the CR we will have in a year will let us play a lot more.

Saying that I could OFC say lets meet in private groups in ~ a year, then (if you are correct) you would have to grind a "group" CMDR to meet me in private groups, again boring as in groups I will have wealth and you will not, I would like to fly with you at some point on equal terms.

I already have a similar bet on with another cmdr on these lines, that there will still be mode switching and a shared universe 6 months after release (bet was made in Dec, if I recall correctly. I bet him a hold-full of palladium.

Sir o7, I congratulate (and commiserate maybe :)) with your new position as a Mod here, I have a lot of respect for people that spend their valuable free time, time they could be playing the game rather than keeping this forum as "sane & reasonable" as they can.

My personal view, you are xxxxx crazy :D, but fair play to you, its not like you are new here, I wish you the best with it and thanks to all the (unpaid) mods who spend time they could be playing here, trying to keep the rest of us civil.

Lord, they even made that "slopey" chap a mod now, that's a big mistake, they should have made him a Dev lol, but hey that's another post.

Anyway grats to you both, sorry if I have missed others.

The players tend to send a good supply of pizza to the Devs when there is a big update, I think we should also consider buying migraine tablets for the Mods too :)

Do Undiscovered Systems in Solo tie up with Open?

I'm about to begin my voyage into the dark unkown depths of space tonight once I finally get my last bits of kit together for my Asp.

But what I wanted to check was:
- To find undiscovered systems, do I just use the Galaxy Map and zoom off until I find a greyed out system area?
- Are systems that I discover / visit in Solo the same as the ones in Open in terms of discovery. Basically, if I hand in the data for somewhere in Solo, will this be shown to people in Open?

Not that I'm bothered either way playing Solo or Open for exploring since it makes little difference, but I'd like to know in case I happen to be in one or the other at the time.

What you see in Solo is the same for anyone else, so if you find something and are the first to get back with the data then yes, it'll be immortalised with your name as the discoverer :)

Not sure about the greyed out bit, I went exploring pre-1.1 so couldn't comment. I don't think that would make a difference in terms of whether it's been explored or not. Plus, some don't actually explore everything, just the star and interesting planets, others max the jump distance so miss out systems in-between.

Hmm, so is there a way telling from on the G-Map whether a system is unexplored or not?
Want to try and head in a direction less-travelled if possible.

Question about solo/multi player trading.ganking

I have a question I am wondering, is there a point to trade in open game? Case in point a short time a go a player grabbed me out of warp so I killed my engines and what not figuring he would take most of my stuff if I jetted it out and he killed me after I had stopped.(still new to the the game have had it for a few months but 1st time really sitting down to play it. I was in a hauler ship he was in a asp i believe) From what I have read if they kill your ship they don't get anything, only if you jet the cargo do they get something. Or is there a reward they get for killing trade ships that I have no come across?

Well, here's the thing: With player interdictions you have a chance to survive if he's actually a proper pirate and you surrender. With NPC interdictions? Those will shoot at you every single time.

So, there will be no relief in solo.

Sorry.

Fair enough I figured an npc would chew me down to nothing, but for the most part I have gotten a way from ever one of the npc grabs with out much of an issue. When the player grabbed me I assumed it would be safer if there was no real reason to kill me. Fair enough solo for money and open game for shooting stuff it is :)

Open Play and Solo Play status frustrated thoughts

Hi everyone.
Sorry in advance for the bad english.

So, playing the game from the release date and today uninstalling it form my PC.
My sad situation reached it's climax by joining the community goal on Banki system to help the feds. I flyed in conflict zones for about 40 minutes destroying about 10 ships and DID'T GET 1 KILL.
Kill stealing is a serous issue. So i searched the forum to check the situation, and what i've found about the near future is something like "we like how it is, it's very competitive. It's more like reality".
As a little digression from the game itself, i don't think reality is a good example of fun thing. You born, you grow up, you go to school (not happy days for everyone) and then you go to work till you die. And there's people trying to trick you, to steal from you. Selfishness in general (this is an obviusly "bad things" exaggeration example).
BUT when you put thousands of people in a MMO that's exactly what happens. Because they are real people, but behind a screen. And every sefish action that can be done will be done. By the vast majority of players. That's a fact, you can just try few MMO to see it. In-engine game regulations are needed to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. Because otherwise there's not enough fun for all of us who paid cash for entertainment.
I come home from work tired, having got enough "reality" for the day. That's what video games are about, they have to be better then reality.

So, back to my ED experience, what's the obvious next step everyone makes at this point? Go to Solo mode! Farm those rebel ships like crazy!
And here you can see how mutch broken the game engine is. Killed 15 rebel ships, after obviusly selecting the federal faction in battle, results in a loss of reputation whit the said company.
This is not that bad, compared to when i got down from friendly in Federation (took A LONG time) back to neutral for reporting a successful fed mission.
Or more recently, had to do a pormotion navy mission 4 times (a very long pirates hunting mission, btw).
The game structure istelf is still very very limited (not many missions, no cummunication with NPCs at all, a very big but mostly empty and repetitive procedurally-generated map and an inconsistent and buggy "faction background/situation" generation engine making the game immersion very difficult).

One last thought about shield cells. I like them to be there for PvE (makes little ships really powerful and capable of dangerous missions) but really hate them to be on PvP. Makes the fight too long and creates the risk of having a "who has more cells wins" situation too often. Can't afford to lose 30 minutes in a PvP fight just to realize the guy has the whole internals fitted with cells. In fact, i just directly runned away from every CMDR i've met in the last times (also after patch). I'd very mutch prefer a "oh no, i've run into an Anaconda CMDR, i must run for my life" or "another Cobra, guess it's a 50/50 5 mins fight" more quick and straight forward situation.

Now i'm unsure on what i've bught here: a too young MMO? a pre-alpha single player game? a very simple simulator? an astronomical education software?

I see all aroud the devs and palyers talking about the new features coming, like Wings or Space Walks or the possibility to visit stations and planets. All good and everything, but i'd prefer to see all efforts going towoards fixing what is available first.

Reaching the purpose of the post now: is the situation as i see it? Nothing will change? This is how the game is meant to be? Am i missing something?
If you have it, please link me some dev's declarations on how ED is going to evolve in the near future in a way i'd like.

This is not a rage post (maybe a little), it's a PLEASE GIVE ME HOPE post.
Tell me i'm wrong (with proves, please).
I trusted FD (and even bought an Oculus Rift), but now i'm seriously thinking about waiting till SC or NMS.

Anxiously waiting the next (and next next, and next next next) patch release notes. Fingers crossed.

Patience Padawan...

There is one point I agree with you.
Games are supposed to be enjoyable.
however... as of lately (the last 5 years or so) game Developers have done their best to make games more ... life-like... more like reality...
Me thinks that approach is the wrong one. The reality of our real daily life is harsh enough... I for one do not wish more of 'real life' in a game I play.

challenge in a game is fine... mindless bullying in a game is not. the grievers in ED are not the players... the Grievers are the Dev's with their harsh coding.
