Python Vs Clipper

So, iv come to the point where i want to "main" one ship that fits all needs. something i can do combat with, but also refit for trading or mining or even pirating. I have been using a clipper to trade in on the side while flying an asp to pew pew in but decided i gotta move on up sometime and turned in the 50 million Cr spacebrick for a battle loadout on my clipper and set out in my new home away from home. but i cant but wonder if a python would be a better choice for me.

Naturally i want keep my rebuy as low as possible. i see alot of players with spend more creds than they have sense on there ships. max armour makes it too heavy so they need max thrusters then they need max powerplant making the ship too heavy to turn anyway XD then complain anout the ridiculous rebuy on it. Anyway, my clipper in its combat boots has a rebuy of just over 5 million. Top shields, distributer, sensors, FSD, everything else as good as it needs to be to cover the optimal mass and power needs.

But im wondering if a python can be fitted in the same manner without going over my Clipper's rebuy. i know the shield is unbelievably cheaper on the python (16 mil vs the clippers 50 mill a-7) but everything else is a grey area.

Also how do they compare in combat. I know i can safely outrun anything that can mass lock my space farrari, tank anything an anaconda can throw at me in time for my shield cells to respond and out turn most things with my light weight build and reasonably afford my general wear and tear bills but can a python say the same with a similar rebuy (mil)?

Clipper is faster and turns better, but has a crap weapons convergence zone. Weapons convergence on a Python is better, but it's not as fast or agile as a Clipper.

Maintenance on the Python is also going to be higher, and module costs can be expensive as well.

The Elite Shipyard is a good tool to use to get a general idea of how to build each one, and what costs are involved, which may help you decide which one is best for you.

TY mate, it looks like a the build i use on my clipper would total the exact same rebuy on a python :)

Here's a trivia, discounting the hull price, the all A (literally) fitting on Python is ONLY 8M cr more than a Clipper. That 7A shield on Clipper really jacked up its price.

For trading, the Python is better with a bigger cargo (276T with a class 4 shield) and it can land on the small station on the medium pad.

Pythons the best medium trade-ship, probably the best ship for pve combat, Clipper is the best pvp ship currently as long as you want options as the only thing that can kill a clipper is another clipper.

I have to say I never tried the Python before the nerf but having bought one now, the comparison and smile on my face compared to a barge like a Type-7 is great. Loving it so far, yes damned expensive ship to run but as a heavily armed trading vehicle it fits the bill for me. Not sure I want to take it to a RES or Nav Beacon for hunting though....not yet...I'd prefer to buy a second ship for those thrills.

I'm not sure I agree... a Python, even post nerf, has double the shield strenght of a Clipper, and it can spam chaffs all day long to screw up the mandatory gimbals on the Clipper.

I just grinded my trading to get a clipper, then grinded some more to et the python... the python trading and pve(PVP) feels brilliant, nothing is penetrating me and thats only with a few basic upgrades and level 3 weapons. I'm trading with 212 cargo so the profit is still coming and I feel like I finally have a worthy ship of trading and staying safe in the process.

Pvp isn't about manning up its about reliably coming out on top that includes being able to safely escape if your outmatched, pythons can't escape anything your stuck, if you get 2 asps in a python? Dead, if you get 2 asps in a clipper? Can't touch you, it doesn't matter that it has weapon superiority because the balance is so skewed to a variety of factors.

Simply put the clipper beats everything that isn't a combat python or anaconda, and the only ship faster is an orca (and max speed cobra). That means the only ship that can threaten you is another clipper, nothing else.

The Large pad required for the Clipper can be an issue. Can't use an un-policed outpost to bring back illegal commodities without risk - which makes doing some missions an issue.

(But then if you can afford a python/clipper you can afford to buy yourself a smaller craft for this kind of work)

What you really want is both, and a Viper and an Anaconda and a T9 and a........Ok one of every ship A-fitted :)

I prefer my python over the clipper - It is a better all round ship for general use (for me). But that is a personal choice not because one is or isn't better than the other.

After I had A'd my Python out, I had realized that I could have bought every ship under it and A'd them all out.. or I could have bought a Anaconda and made a Python killer. I love my Python.. I didn't have the heart to sell it after the nerfs but it sure as hell ain't worth the money I put into it.
