Anyone read the..

until now i always knew why i got a warning/infraction (always the right choice by the mods).

hope, it will stay that way ;)

The way I read it was they will tell you first, they just reserve the right to suspend your account (before telling you in advance) if you are being really offensive to others.

1) Forum rules are not what you hear people complaining about. It's the crazy word filter that is like a Gattai Robot of all the word filter in existence combined(and then by association the upholding of those rules by mods). The word filter should censor your message instead of sending you on a merry chase wondering which of those words are not right, i reedited a message 3 times before i found the 1 word he didnt like. I dind't even know if i could use asterix to censor myself or if that would count as a "crime".

2) This creates a climate where people become increasingly more and more passive aggressive and aside from creating a system with "hypocrisy" as a foundation it makes the forum more toxic than anything else. I see it everyday here how the people post their discontent about the game and make fun of each others in an asepticized and legal way. This raises the hairs on the back of my neck.

3) Someone mention on the first pages that under normal circumstances the rules are not 100% enforced, he is right for everywhere else but here. Here it is. That's why when people come here they feel attacked and alienated because we never had to live like that before. Then it's perplexing to see the extent that some will go to exercise power over someone else. You have good cops and you have bad cops. I met a good cop a few months ago, he told me to just empty my beer and throw it in the garbage when i got home. If he had happened to be the bad kind or cop id be having a ticket for a law that is there for specific reasons that did not pertain to the situation i was in. Rigidly applying a rule with complete disregard for it's intended purpose is not a good thing.Common and logical forum rules can become draconian.

Ive seen people being attacked for being new or different on these forums, the attackers understood the rules and were extremely passive aggressive and made sure to fall under the plausible deniability umbrella, i got a warning for replying to those guys because i did not understand the rules then. Now i do so it's fine, i do my best not to use this toxic passive bulldung i was talking about because i hate it so much.

The forum everywhere else "how guy friends talk smack about each others" :)

The forum here "how women enemies says nice thing to each others" :(

Brett replied to a PM I sent him and let's just say I now have no objection.
(I can't say why as it would basically make the PM public ... and that would be against the rules ... yeah I know, but what can I do?)

I would guess that he assures you the Mods would continue act in the same manner as always & it's just a "catch all" (like the solo / groups / open thread, dare I even mention it, it has been dead for 2 whole days now!), just a better explanation of the rules to help the Mods deal with people who continually "push their luck".

I know you can't confirm or deny my theory but "docking clearance granted" or "Wow I wouldn't trade that route myself" will suffice ;o)

Well, I for one have grown accustomed to pushing the boundaries of good taste from time to time. Red numbers next to my name won't thrill me, but at least I will know someone has read my stuff.

I think FD want to try and stem the bad flaming posts and negativity.
People looking at buying the game might come here first before purchasing and be put off because of all the negative posts regarding lack of content and unfinished game etc.

With these communist forum rules they can Ban anyone they want when they want.

So let's all be nice to each other and write a cheque to FD thanking them for their 100% finished wonderful game.

:D

There will be a lot of kids in the game and I think FD have to keep the place tidy both in game and in the forums for that reason.
I don't have a problem with that, I hope my two will be in game soon, (not that they haven't been exposed to colourful language before).
I've had one post edited and one post removed, so lessons learned on my part.

Say what now? Shouldn't that sort of thing be dealt with by sending forum and game registration details (if possible) to the Police?

99% need not worry. As with most rules/laws, it only applies to the 1% that for whatever reason cant/wont follow suit.

Personally, I think this is for the better.
If anyone wants to break the rules, there's a whole internet outside the forums for that.

1984 WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FICTION!

Draconian doesn't begin to describe them. Charts? Lists?? Graphs?!

Maybe if they spent that much time and effort into fixing the game, the forums wouldn't be on fire all the time. Unbelievable.

Anarchy would be no moderators. I'm proposing a totalitarian dictatorship.

That doesn't sound any more appealing to me than anarchy AT ALL. :D

But hey, kudos for not sugar coating it.

On topic, i finally got around to looking at the new forum rules, and that list with the points.

What can you say, finally FD manages to implement a complex and interesting progression system, at least for the forums.

Get that guy to work on the game.:D

I'm afraid i might achieve "Elite" here much faster than i ever will out there in space.

I never understood the reason behind law-book lengthy forum rules.

Having ran several forums in the past I feel the rules are not necessarily there to be enforced in a draconian way. However, when a forum member does step far enough outside the rules and the mods feel the need to act the offender cannot use ignorance as an excuse. The rules are more to protect and support decisions made by mods and provide written justification for their decisions/actions.

I don't see anything in the new rules that are much different to the existing ones. maybe a bit tighter and obviously the 'punishment' system is different.

...One can hope they'll never have to add something past the 15 point infraction threshold, but given the prevalence of trollish/disruptive personalities on the internet, it's better to have a plan in place as a precaution.

So they are dealing with trolls on the forum but not the ones in the game? ;)

Hmm even without my currently existing warnings I think I've posted enough infractions of the new rules in the last month to be banned twice. I might take this opportunity to say goodbye now, since I have no idea how much longer I'll be able to post on here.

(Oh look out mods, no smiley... he must be serious.. better ban him quick.)

Has anyone ever had a decent conversation on a leniently moderated forum without 100 idiots chiming in with their idiocy??
In my extensive forum experience it usually leads to a few small groups of morons turning the place into a battlefield.
