Overpriced

Is it really? IMHO earnings should be proportional to risks. A trader risks much more than a bounty hunter or a pirate.

Trader? Explorer? Bounty Hunter? Miner? Pirate? If you play the game like a profession, i t becomes a job, tiring and boring. May I suggest another role? "Opportunist"! Do whatever you feel is fun! Some trading, maybe in rares or PEs, kill some interdictors on the side, explore a system on the way and go towards where you should be. And this can be done in any ship, but maybe the Cobra or the Asp fills this role best (don't know about the Python, it's still out of reach for me yet).

I seriously dont get the money issue.
I have "only" about 2m in cash, have a A/B outfitted Cobra and Viper, a T6 for some quick runs to make 250k once and again in case I do want to upgrade something on my small, tiny ships.
I dont even care about a Phyton or Anaconda.. from what the stats tell me they are simply too expensive for the little benefit they have. actually, they do have a few downsides such as not being able to land on outposts that would put me off quite a bit.
i reaaaally like my cobra :)

stop worrying about the damn money and enjoy the game. the game is not called Elite Industry Tycoon.

This is my Asp (or at least, it's 90% my asp. Hopefully I'll finish her this week or weekend). It will only cost around 32 million to get the way I want, and the insurance is a reasonable 1.6 million rebuy. I completely agree with OP about how it's stupid that trading is the only really viable way to get dosh in the game, but maybe once Wings comes out we can have slightly more complicated and higher paying bounty missions. I suppose one thing to keep in mind, is that having an Anaconda doesn't make one invincible, or even good. My Asp currently annihilates anything from a Sidewinder to a Python (assuming I don't make any bone-headed moves), and I expect that as I get more practice, Anaconda pilots will die just as quickly. I can already solo the "kill missions," but those aren't really a good indication of player skill.

I feel that you're running into the primary problem with this game, and that is unbalanced and unequal professions. Trading scales wonderfully with the ships you can buy, so you can just work your way up the ships and your profits will increase accordingly. Exploration more or less works like that, except an Adder can do pretty much anything an Asp can do, except much cheaper. Bounty hunting has even less scaling, since you can do literally any mission in an "A" rated viper, if you practice flying. We won't talk about mining, since it needs a ton of love. It is my opinion that if FD want this game to stick around and be popular (and not just with us masochistic types who love space trucking), they'll need to equalize all the professions, making them equally able to generate profit. Either that, or decrease the cost of the ships / provide additional ships. The Vulture will be a step in the right direction, since that will most likely be in the Asp's price range, but offer the firepower of a pre 1.1 Python in the form of twin class 3 hardpoints.

I... can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but here goes: I'm not sure a Class 6 shield generator offers enough of a boost to let go of the 64 slot cargo bay. Especially since you can still lock in two Class 3-B skill cell- er, shield cells.

I definately think their is something wrong with the whole Rare Trading thing. People can play Solo and farm millions with very little risk. Yeah ok a few NPC interdictions but a good pilot can outrun them easy. I made over 500k over the weeked running the Warzone community event in Khasari, first time i have hit that mark and well happy.
Some people have made over 10mil. Its crazy, guess their is nothing to compete over just yet at least so people with millions/billions already dont have that much of a advantage except have fully A class fitted ships

What kind of bogus fit is that? Why would you not take a class 6 shield generator, why would you take both military armour and exploration equipment?

Why don't you artificially boost the price a bit more by fitting turreted beam lasers on all hardpoints?

behold, the sidewinder, a 9 million credit ship

Oooh, thanks I missed the sheild gen, takes my totals to 49,473,351 + 2,473,668 = 51,947,019 and eloquently proves the ops point! :D

Like I said, it could be done cheaper but I want to get a general purpose ship together to do everything but trading in, that I don’t have to hunt down parts for each time I want to do something else for a bit. It’s expensive (and tbh I might drop the composite) but it covers all bases for me and I don’t mind the cost so why not? (Admittedly I may well find out "why not" when I actually fly the thing :D)

If we recall the OP wanted a MAXED Asp, we may all have different ideas to what the term “maxed” means but to at least some (right or wrong) it means the most money you can spend on it!

The best way to have fun, as far as I have been able to tell so far, is to trade for a while for your first 10 milliion in the hauler and then cobra, and then do what you like from there. Up to then, it is a bit of a grind - especially with rares, so try to break it up a bit with bounty hunting.
Good luck

Oh I don't pigeonhole myself any more, you could say that I am opportunist, but OP was complaining that she's a BH and that all ships and modules are overpriced. That's why I suggested to her to try trading.

I mainly bounty hunt, but when cash gets low I just do a weekend rare run. That 71 stop run another member posted on here a few weeks ago, gives me enough to bounty hunt again for a few weeks.. Also some times a full A rated ship is NOT the way to go for optimal use.

Bounty hunted since release with a very very short trade run (Type 6) and i own a Cobra (almost all A gear bought from the trading) and a Sidey who sits somewhere + 4 million. I want an ASP and i think i have the cash to buy one now if i sell my Cobra, but no cash for upgrades and insurance. I think i have about a couple thousand ships to kill before i get there hehe.

The key is to realise the aim of the game isn't to get the biggest ship, nor to think that they would be sustainable anyway.

The objective is to get Elite. If you find that easier in a more-cost effective ship, then I suggest you stick to that approach. I'm sticking with my Cobra for the time being and I've encountered many players who've dropped back down to one for similar reasons.

This. It looks like FDEV doesn't want to see every player in an Anaconda. I think that is a good thing. Would make the other ships kind of useless, everyone grinds for one week and everyone would have the biggest ship in game?

Yeah, btw i didnt write it above since its been obvious to most, but im having fun as i go. Im in no hurry to get a grade A ASP even though i wish i had it right now. Do bit of this and bit of that and soon enough i will sit in my ASP and feel good about it. Burning through all ships quickly could be a bad thing to some and good to others. Good that you get to test the ships to see which you find nicest to play the game with. Or bad to burn through them all quickly and think "was that it? Now what?". I enjoy working towards the ships. If i REALLY want an ASP fast(er) i could trade. I like mucking about though doing the side dishes and have some fun so its all cool.

Why do you care? If someone is playing solo and farming millions, what possible impact does that have on you?

Honestly I can't understand some mentalities on this forum, where people seem to think "I'm not doing that, but it seems good. Because I don't want to do it, it shouldn't exist for others".

If you're happy in conflict zones, do that, and be happy. Don't begrudge others their methods of credit-earning just because it's not your method.

Or if you're not happy in conflict zones, then suggest that conflict rewards are upped instead of suggesting other things should be removed. Not everyone wants to fight, and rares give other game options than whizzing back and forth between two stations in a T6. (Which, I can attest to, is not "easy" as 1) everything wants to blow your ship out of the sky and 2) it doesn't offer the variation that combat does.)

I am tooling around in an A class Asp, which is worth 34Mcr, has 88 cargo, and it does very well. I will upgrade, but I will, when finances permit, have another Asp (specced the same) for my fun vehicle (the others will be for working in).

You don't have to have the biggest or most expensive ship. I've been flying the cobra MkIII for about 8-9 months now and I still feel no need to get a bigger ship. It does all I need.

I don't think they are over priced at all. Been playing the game since gamma and still in my starting Cobra and Type 6. Making money is a side line as I just fly and enjoy bounty hunting, trading and exploration as I run missions as well. Just do what you find is fun and forget about the credits.

Remember there is no end game or max level in a true sandbox game like Elite Dangerous. This is not a race.

I would love to get interdicted by an Anaconda pilot who has done nothing but trading while I improved my combat skills...
