need your trick on how to find the entrance of cubic station

I use the lights mostly, but feel your pain, I sucked at this to start with.

I often find it easier to use up or down thrust so I can circle the station whilst facing it once I've spotted the red (rear) white lights (front)

Follow the arrows,

Arrows not visible is a strange one, Id be messing with graphic settings.
Hated when the docking numbers disapeared god that was frustrating.

The arrows are not very visible for me, I suspect others are the same. I didn't even know about them until recently. Always used the rotation to work out where the dock is.

Your HUD brightness may be turned down, you can crank it up in menu 4 (right menu).

Come in between station and the planet it is orbiting - the opening should then be within easy sight. Or at worst at a 90 degree angle from you, in which case you need to go towards the end that is rotating counter-clockwise. Though, you should be able to see the blinking lights at the end of the toast-rack.

Never used the arrows or the right hand rule or whatever. The docking slot is always on the panel that is rotating counter-clockwise, which is what I look for on approach.

Wow, haven't thought about the right-hand rule since physics class with currents and magnetic fields. What a jolt of nostalgia :).

Same here. I guess that's why I viewed that diagram so innocently.

Surly_Badger, Michael Brookes does have quite a dark streak to his humour. I wouldn't be surprised if he injects a Coriolis Station which rotates the wrong way. In fact :) I hope he does.

A Coriolis Station that rotates the RIGHT way, you mean. :D

The wrong way of rotation still catches me, every time. What I mean, in ELITE (C64 version at least) and FFE the stations rotate clockwise (and in Oolite too), only FE2 & E: D get it wrong. It is so deeply ingrained in muscle memory that every single time (unless the docking slit is already visible) I start heading for the back side based on how the station rotates, until I notice the arrows in HUD hologram.

When you have dropped out of super cruise, select the station again to get it shown as wireframe to the left of the radar - there you will clearly see the arrows on the sides pointing to the entrance - you can't miss them.

It rotates on an axis, so as posted earlier, the right hand rule works every single time. Its not that hard, just look at how it is spinning and its fairly obvious. The arrows are sometimes faint on the hologram so you will take longer looking at that than using your eyes and watching it for a second or two.

See the arrows on the hologram:

Right Hand Rule ... Arrows on the HUD ... drop out of supercruise facing away from the planet .... while all those methods *might* work ... here is mine that does work (for me if no-one else)

Drop out of supercruise
Think of the Coriolis station as a cube with the corners missing
Look for the sides of the cube and rotate your ship so they are moving right to left
Pitch dowards to fly "under" the station
Strafe downwards and pitch upwards very slightly while flying forwards at full throttle
The entrance should come into view, stop strafing downwards before you stop pitching upwards
Line up with the entrance and reduce your speed

Like I said, this works for me every time without fail.

Very similar to my docking technique, but it sounds like you use a lot less boosting than I do :)

Anything over 3km from station and my 'Conda needs another boost to get there in a timely manner...

What's that you say, flight assist off full reverse immediately on passing the letterbox? Ho yeah!

I've only just started using this method myself.

As Zylark says,if you position your exit from supercruise so that you are between the station and the planet then generally you will end up in a position where the station entrance is clearly visible. I've had it a couple of times when I've been lined up pretty much bang on and don't need to maneuver at all but this is a bit rare for me as I need to practice more.

There was a video on Youtube that explained it quite well but I can't remember who did it. I can try and find a link to it later if you like.

Follow the Yellow Brick Road!

No, hang on, wrong forum...:D

I personally always head for the planet the station is orbiting rather than the station itself.

Once inside the stations orbit line, I adjust course and speed and head to the station.

When you drop from SC, you will be no more than 50-60 degrees away from the station entrance, and it'll be obvious where it is.

I believe it's also faster than exiting on the wrong side of the station and flying right round it in normal space.

Also safer as less manoeuvring required to line up with the entrance...stations are large dangerous chunks of metal to be flying near, people have been killed by the rings, arms, solar panels, you name it, as they attempt to fly to the entrance side, and that's just embarrassing! :)

i just use the counter clockwise techniqe + look for smoke trails.. takes me exactly one second to identify the proper hole to penetrate:)

I just trigger the "send docking request" macro as soon as I exit SC. Then it's the arrows on the hologram (or just point at traffic. That's always on the side of the opening)

On platforms I haven't yet figured out a system (other than following the dot...and that only works when very close). Sometimes I have to hunt around to find the lighted pad.
