I think it's a good idea.

You'd need to be allied to the local faction and have a clean record there. Then you could take a contract for that system.

You could get paid for successful illegal cargo scans and for taking out wanted targets. But it should be challenging to stay clean and not lose your contract due to repeat infractions.

I'd be possible to patrol stations as well as super cruise and nav points/ res points.

It would be unique enough to be viable and fun.

I love the idea of getting credits for illegal cargo scans, annoyed I didn't think of that :)

Ooo flashing lights is a must.

And! The ability to issue fines to people flying dangerously... no? ok, too far.

Salary would be ok with me, you could have it on the notice board as a always there mission that has a timer of 1 day where you have to maybe catch a certain amount of wanted criminals with the number increasing with difficulty level?

oh yeah, that would be a great way to implement the role and the pay, and would mean FDev could pretty much do it out of the current box of toys.

say goodbye to all those bounties, and say hello to a steady but small paycheck

p.s. i want flashing lights

I wouldn't see it replacing bounties, for a start its local to a single system port internal security, then whole system which would be a hard grind then a even harder grind to get full faction

You would still have to bounty hunt outside your own system, faction and I would say you can't be a cop for all 3 Empire, Fed and Alliance, only 1 so bounty hunt the other factions

:D the skin would be a great rep reward to work towards.. visible only while you are carrying out your daily orders ofc. Im pretty sure you could set up voiceattack or a macro for flashing lights.. although would be nice to get them in blue :D

it would also be a good way to reduce a wings influence in a system if several wings try and team up. I think it would also be fair to suggest that it isnt a roll you could grind up in solo.. would definately need to be open play (and this is coming from someone who has mainly just traded in solo.. doing this, id likely never play solo again lol)

*actually, that would make up a great wing.. 3 security force and an SAR specialist

First of all apologies if this has already been said but I've done a quick search and can't find anything.

I was becoming a little lost when I started the game once and just couldn't think what I wanted to do, I don't like exploring and I don't like trading, each to their own but I find it a little boring.

I'm pretty well liked at my local space port so I thought it would be good to immerse myself in the game and be a pretend security vessel, the problem is that getting scanned by the other security vessels sort of took the immersion away from me.

I think it should be possible to work toward becoming a security vessel, for me the idea would work on first starting out as internal security for a particular space port, then all the ports in the system and then on to the whole of Empire, Fed etc

For me the rules would be:

No KWS in any system that you patrol, will lose you influence
No Killing in any system that you patrol if not wanted, will lose you a lot of influence and you will be fined X 5 of normal fine
Allowed to pick up stolen cargo which awards you influence and some credit (about 15% of what it's worth on commodities)
Security Vessels under the same faction, system, Empire/Fed etc you patrol won't scan you
Security Vessels under the same faction, system, Empire/Fed etc you patrol are more likely to come to your aid
You can still be fined for attacking but not killing (as happens by accident sometimes) X 3 normal fine

Please let me know what you think

I won my first Eagle in a poker game, I wasn't a good guy but now I'm trying to make up for my wrongs by taking down the scum

I had brought this up in a couple of threads as well.

I think it'd be a fun way to find your place in the galaxy. Just another way to immerse yourself in it.

i would also add that ascending in the cop reputation will give you discounts in the systems you patrol for repairs, outfitting and ships, and also unique equipment

overall is a super idea

Great idea man! I'd love to be a security vessel in my system, and the livery would just be the icing on top of that awesome idea. +1 for making me feel excited about something to do with this game.

I like this idea :). +1 rep to OP.

Often when leaving a station and I see Security Vessels attacking a wanted person and I go and help out. I am wondering, however, if the security pilots get upset with me taking their bounty, lol.

You could work your way up to become accepted and then there could be rules so if you murder a person who isn't wanted your reputation with the security force goes down dramatically. You could even be thrown out of the force and have to work your way up from the bottom to get back in again. Three strikes (i.e. 3 murders) and you're out for good and you can never join the force again.

Should one also get a free Security Vessel, painted blue and flashing lights of course :D, which you lose if you get thrown out of the force? Or you have to buy the ship but re-buy cost is very, very cheap as it's mostly paid by the Security Force?

Hi Rezri, wasn't aware you had posted and would just like to say good minds think alike :)

Did you create a poll, I really want people to get behind this idea and get the Dev's to notice, apparently it was brought up in the initial discussions in 2013 other than that, your post and mine its not really taken legs.

Happy to share credit with you and any other person that's already mentioned it :)

This idea would open up a lot of gameplay and actually give you a purpose in Elite rather than having to make one up in your head. Police can patrol, escort, rescue except it won't happen.

I hadn't found the DDF discussion on this. I did a quick search on the forum but confess I didn't spend a lot of time looking.

I decided to put mine in the suggestions section, since it really just is a suggestion for new ways to play.

Didn't create a poll. Was just hoping for it to gain traction in the suggestion area as a place to start.

By doing combat community goals, they are already asking players to join a Militia.

Security forces to continue to hold somewhere are just a natural extension on this.

Basically, Space Blackwater.

why would i want to help traders in any way without being payed well to do it?

bounty hunter allready do what the police does the only thing missing is when we scan for cargo if its stolen the other guy doesnt get a fine.
