You won't get an answer sorry. Braben has moved on. He's working on Coaster park Tycoon. A project he's super excited about. The other couple of guys working with Elite is just trying to make the little they have to work with, AKA "the game", well work. There is not going to be any more development beyond the basic little add ons with stuff that actually should be in the game from the get go.

say it aint so say it aint so :( im going to go cry now

Laughably bad effort. But great, a thread the FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) merchants can get their teeth stuck into.

OP, your post says you want more content, you want to know what's coming, and you want problems fixed.

To be perfectly blunt, this doesn't sound all that ground-breaking and unique in terms of a customer request. So...

Why is this directed at CEO level?

He has moved on hasn't he? he still executive prod with Elite, but he has moved to RCT. Do you know how many developers there are on Elite? I have a feeling that there are more than a couple of guys and girls, but not many. Far from it. I have the feeling they have enough to do the ironing and perhaps add something new every now and then. That's it. The big features will not come.... ever! The game will not come alive with a working economy and factions and alliances... ever!!!

All that I can say is that I am unbelievably grateful that I am not working on this game. The sheer amount of whining on the forums in general would send a kindergarten teacher off the rails. [Deleted because i) I'm about to break the new forum rules, and ii) it wouldn't help].

On the plus side, I just asked my Voice Attack computer to tell me a joke (I needed cheering up). The reply came back:
A religious man asks God, "Why is my life so hard, when my neighbour, who is an atheist, has it so easy?"
God replies, "I prefer it when people don't keep bothering me."

I love my Voice Attack.

Hi folks.

This here is an open thread for Mr Braben to discuss his ideas over Elite Dangerous and the direction it will take. His team have done an excellent job of organizing a solid base universe that we can enjoy. With solid graphics, a decent interface and wonderful music. However. As a procedural universe, manually injecting content is a bit like manually tea-spooning the water out of the ocean. While leaving what is pretty much an empty game behind.

I would ask two questions here.

1: As it is not possible for any company to add content on this scale... Will they offer in the future "Procedural" Content as Well as "User defined" Content? For the "User defined" content of course some sort of sandbox kit will need to be included. Under rules.

2: Will you guys just please be transparent in this endeavor? Otherwise, like many others I will see it as a pointless waste of time and resources and simply delete the program from our hard drives. It really is crap that after all these years that you cant give us a road map of your ideas. (That integrate into a fully online process now)

3: Just because im fed up. Ill add another. Will you ever sort the instancing out? I mean for gods sakes, I may as well go off and buy some planetarium software for all the continuity it gives. Do you plan on upgrading your servers to cope with forming a real "simulation" or what?

Don't mean to be harsh. But the are good questions. For over €100 spent.

You cant be serious?! Im not sure the devs even know about this site.

Okay, to be perfectly frank, I'm concerned when I find myself trying to discuss a topic with a forum member with multiple, near-identical negative posts in their recent history.

Last night:

<snip>

A game where mining works
A game where trading works
A game where the economy works
A game where the factions work
A game where the major political players work.
A game where missions work.

<snip>

This morning:

Hi, I'm just wondering if Betas raised the question about the state the game was released?

I mean
Mining doesn't really work
Bounty hunting doesn't really work.
Trading doesn't really work
Economy doesn't really work
Missions doesn't really work
Factions and alliances doesn't really work

But just in case you are not a forum member out to spread FUD (because I have faith in human nature, and have bad mood days too, like everyone), here's a direct and crystal clear communication from the company themselves, showing:
  • Confirmation that the company is expanding the team dedicated to Elite.
  • Commitment to improve the existing game, for all.
  • Intent to do more than just fix things, but to add new features, for all.
  • Intent to develop the separate expansion packs, to be sold at a later date.

ED Newsletter, January 10, 2015:

"Development Update

The full development team is now back refreshed after the holidays, and have hit the ground running.

There are exciting times ahead, which of course we will keep you fully updated on via our newsletters as we are ready to talk about things. We plan to continue with our collaborative approach to development, using Beta tests wherever appropriate to make sure we can get your valued feedback.

We’re proud of the fantastic game that we released before Christmas, and as we have said we intend to keep growing and developing it.

To make this happen we’re expanding the team working on the game so that we can maintain a regular schedule of updates as well as working on the paid expansions.

The regular updates won’t just be the ongoing fixes and tweaking we’ve provided since release - we will also add new features and content for all."

Hopefully that addresses some of your concerns.

you lost all credibility with this one...

True... please disregard from that one. I actually do not have an inkling about how many people there are working on Elite. But, the lack of communication and road maps and the fact that they still are TALKING about adding stuff like planetary landings and FP make me think that they are still ironing out and adding stuff that will make this game playable in the long run. I don't think they have or will have the budget to start developing the major features that has been used as lures in front of our mouths.

Yeah I know... I've been pretty much single minded and kept to a single topic the last couple of days.

I read the newsletters... but it's all lull lull. 1.1 was a disappointment for everyone except explorers. I'm an explorer and I'm starting to think that adding the discovers name to a system perhaps wasn't the most thought through idea. Every future new player who wants to play as an explorer will be very disheartened by the fact that every interesting place has already been discovered. Every HIP and HR star within 1000 Ly.

The point about every star within 1000 LY being discovered is once the yembo ship is moved to its location that will extend the range of exploration of new players if they can make the outpost is to push a little further out

Good off hand solution to the problem granted. But there should be outposts scattered well beyond the bubble.

i wouldent wait for an answer if i was you.
Dont think they give a monkeys what the gamers that play the game think and want. atleast thats how it feels at times.
I think alote of ppl that are playing Elite now are looking more and more forward to SC due to FD "roademap" if they have one.
Love the game but it gets boring fast couse if Your honest there is only so so much you can do in the game..

It would be naive for anyone to say that people who play ED are not the same people who will play SC, most people who got ED are the people who are just starving for a space SIM game, and in the end the one which is more fun and has more things to do will win out.

However, there is also a bunch of people such as myself who have a fundamental issue how they raised money for the development, it is your right to spend your money however you want, but you will never make me compete with someone who is willing to throw real money for ingame things that are not cosmetic.

I definitely see some issues popping up when the game is out, people who don't want to or can't allow themselves to spend hundreds on a spaceship will complain that it is paid to win, especially if they don't stop this whole ship selling thing once the game is out, and they will be right. I suspect that money won't be that easily acquired and might be even harder there than it is in Elite, so you would consider spending more money on the game.

Another possibility is that money won't be that hard to acquire at all and then a lot of people who did buy in thinking they have a head start will feel as they were robbed and it could happen since they call it "pledge" not "buy"

All in all both Roberts and Braiber are good sports by saying that it is not a competition, but it is, the games are similar enough to be able to attract the same crowd. Competition is good though, and Elite is in the lead now, because it is out and playable and they have about 2 years to add free as well as paid content to make it a far bigger game than it already is. 400 billion star system, that's trillions of planets to visit and explore if there is a good bit of things to do on them, lost colonies to find, dead and perhaps even living civilizations, ship wreaks, weird experiments gone wrong and left behind, if they do pull this off like everyone knows they can, Elite will end up being a game with far more content than any game ever could provide and that would be amazing for me personally cause I am sick and tired of spending money on games I want one game I can play for a long time and not get bored of. FD has their work cut out for them.

Every system around every Nebula i was has been discovered already. Everything else is still there for people to slap their names on it.

Wrong. I think Elite has drastically more potential than Star Citizen.

imo SC has no room for failure with all the money is raised also should be the most polished and optimized game on the planet and should make everyone happy with how long it taking to get out
