Vulture picture [probably]

I believe this is the vulture. Also the nose looks the same as the federal Dropship and their cockpit is virtually identical.

If so, that makes it a cobra competitor. Interesting.

It's armament would seem to suggest it's probably not much of a competition. Of course it's price tag is probably going to be in the millions and it's probably a much more dedicated combat ship.

Hardly. This is supposed to be the third dedicated fighter, this time heavy. I see it more in the Asp range, though probably with FSD one size smaller, but less mass to compensate. Restricted cargo space with probably only one class 5 compartment meant for shields. 2-4 weapons, 2 of them of the large variety. Hopefully not too miserably power starved.

The other threads on this have given full slots already. This may be inspiring AtheosisX's comment. I think if it has the right maneuverability it could be a terror against larger ships.

No, going by the specs the Vulture is going to be to the Asp what the Viper is to the Cobra - similar overall armament, greatly restricted internal compartments and power, etc.

So... a "combat cobra" then. I was referring more to a general class of ship than a specific use - we don't need another cobra sized multipurpose but arguably there's a need for a cobra sized combat vessel. Right now the cobra & asp are the only "medium fighter" capable ships, and neither of them specialise in combat. Either way it'll be interesting to see where it fits in.

Looks awesome. Still praying for an imperial courier too.

P.s the more I look at the orca, the more i think space bobsleigh.

In terms of what? Combat? Definitely, it should dominate the cobra. Anything else? No. It's been designed to be good for combat and nothing else. Edit: read your subsequent post above. Yes, it'll definitely compete for combat. It's a heavy fighter with high agility. But the cobra will outrun the vulture easily. So it'll be able to run away.

To the op, you're probably right. The same speculative guess came out of the thread following the original developer mention of the vulture.

I read that thread, Mike Evans posted loads of stats, it sounds like a specialist big ship killer. I can't wait to try it out :D

Given that it's got a bird name (and is supposedly as maneuverable as an Eagle, so perhaps may look similar), I might expect it to have more defined wings than the ship in that image.

A bit off topic, but I'm wondering if the "winged" ships are going to be the only ones allowed on planetary landings... wings are completely useless in space, after all.

Johaunna, at first I thought the ship you marked was too small for the Vulture, as I imagined it to be more in the size of the Asp. After I checked the ship's stats, I think you are right!

This is, what the wiki tells us about the three ships:

Cobra MkIIIVultureAsp
Hard points2 med./2 small2 large2 med./4 small
Utility244
Reactor445
Power dist.354
Sensors345
Thruster455
FSD445
Fuel435
Internal4 (shield)5 (shield)6 (usually cargo)
44 (SCB ?)5 (usually shield)
42 (Fuel scoop ?)3
213
213
2-2
--2

What does this tell us, regarding the Vulture?

1.) Size/mass
Even if many specs are settled in-between the Cobra and the Asp (thruster, reactor, FSD and so on) the real difference leis in the internal compartments! Here, the Vulture falls short even in comparison to the Cobra!
While this will make it hard to fit shield cell banks into the vessel, and keep some interesting equipment at the same time (FS-interdictor, Fuel scoop, more SCBs), it will minimize the ship's size dramatically.

2.) Power
The ships reactor is smaller than the Asp's reactor, which might be an issue regarding the large weapons. However, due to the lack of internal compartments (and hence less stuff to equip), it might be more than enough to sustain two fixed class 3 beam lasers and a class 4 SCB.

3.) Fighting
Where the Vulture really shines, is the power distribution! Its class 5 power distributor will allow way longer weapon-fire / more power distributed to system or thrusters than even the Asp can afford!
The limited size will keep the profile low as well as strengthen the shield efficiency, which is based on the ship's mass.
With the same thruster size as the Asp but less mass to move, the Vulture will probably be quite nimble and fast!

4.) Traveling
With proximately the same ship mass as the Cobra, the class 4 FSD will allow comparable jump ranges. The small fuel tank, however, will make pit-stops necessary on longer trips. Using the class 2 internal compartment for a fuel scoop might be recommended.

5.) Trading
Forget it... as expected.

Conclusion:
The Vulture is indeed a fighter!
The lack of internal compartments (SCB vs. decent FS-interdictor) and possible power shortage (decent KWS and FSW-scanner, which are both power hungry) will make it difficult to use it as a bounty hunter. The upcoming Fer-de-Lance will probably be better suited for this task.
At conflict zones, however, they will own the field! Enough utility slots for counter measures, descend shields (due to sip size and available pips) and of course massive weapons (which will have enough power without all the other stuff mentioned above and which will be recharged lightning fast due to the large energy distributor) will make it a power to be reckoned with!

Personal verdict:
I am looking forward to it! :)
