Lakon type 9 or Python?

I can buy either but they both have some serious downsides.

Max profit says Lakon but having some fun says Python but the running costs are ridiculous and don't match the lesser ships. One is the best fsd 56 million? come on devs!

Anyway, any thoughts appreciated.

If you want to do more than trade Python. It's an amazing ship especially for combat. But if you want to make money the type 9 is your bet. You can always return to a python. It's a LOT cheaper in every way than the conda. 165 mill for the powerplant alone. But hey as said above blaze your own trail.

I have both and the running cost are definitely crazy on the Python and seem to be just as crazy on the T9 (only just started using my T9). It depends if you want all out profit with the T9 (but vulnerable to attack) or to trade slower in much greater security with the Python.

If I was obliged to have one of them I'd have the Python, (a) better trading opportunities as it can land at most outposts, and (b) can double as a fighter. The only thing holding me back is the massive running & maintenance costs. So I'm waiting to see what new ships appear ITFOT.

Thanks All, I'm leaning towards the python to be fair, had a lot of fun trading and fighting in a tricked out asp. Few more hours in the 7 to make sure I have enough to buy what the Python needs then I think I will bite the bullet. was planning on a conda in the future but from what I have read about the python I may just stick with that and then build up a little fleet for fun.

You don't need the Type 9 or the Anaconda to play the game "on easy".
A kitted Python will kill everything atm with every "normal piloting skills", of course leaving PVP out.

So you either want one of the two because you WANT one or maybe being the richest ass in space is your goal.
If none of the two fits you then just get the Python, it even flies better then the Anaconda.

mmmm ass!! in all honesty i cant fight for toffee and had to run from npc pythons in my asp so....payback :)

I tried getting into a Python last week. I just had enough, at 63 million 'total assets', to cover it, flying without shields or insurance.
Four round-trips later, insurance was covered! Whew!
Then I got in a scrap with an Eagle. 300k bye-bye for repairs.
Fuel that used to get scooped for free was costing 40k per trip.
New shields were taking up profit earning space.
Back down to the Clipper.
Now I'm at 83 million and i still don't think I have enough to cover operating Python securely.
But I want to try it!
Matter or fact i'm going to right now.

EDIT-->
Very happy after a few test trade runs!
Now I have 10 million to 'play with', after insurance costs, and a much better Python:

Grinding up to A class gear is what I do best!

I had a Python for trading but had a hard time covering the cost for combat dammage so I traded it in for an unarmed T9. Got interdicted every other flight and had a hard time escaping undammaged. Equiped it with a full array of turreted beam lasers and the interdictions almost have stopped. I make about 3m cr per hour in the T9. Moving up the tradingships I had neglected my combat skills. I now grind in the T9 and slowly move up thru the lighter ships to get my combat skills up to speed. Just swiched from a maxed out MKIII to a maxed out Asp for bounty hunting and when I hit Competent I'll get a maxed out Python. The T9 makes all this possible. I can go full bore into battle without worries about battle dammage because T9 covers the bill. Find a balance and the game will be fun.

A lot is going to depend on your trade route. Since one of the recent patches, system security (high/med/low) plays a huge role in how often you're interdicted. If you're trucking in nice, safe high-security systems, the Type 9 is gonna earn more profit, but in low-security systems, the Python can fill its armed and armored trader role better.

If you can't hold the cost of a Python, well ship progression ends there for you then. Sorry.
From here it only gets worse, Type 9 effectivly costs more to run and the Anaconda sure does.

With the right trade route you do, even in your Python, say 10 runs and you can have a week rest.
Without getting blown to pieces of course. ;)

Edit: Damn, just what the post above me said I guess..

If you go for a trading Python, it is no problem to keep the money flowing in.
My current route nets me 350k profit - 40k fuel one way and 250k profit - 40k fuel back. It's a 2 jump route with less than 60 Ls to both stations.
I believe I upgraded from my T7 when I had 70 million funds, including selling the T7. I had 9 million left in funds when the Python was upgraded for trading.

Turn off the cargo hatch and there is enough power with the A2 power plant, but of course, there is no power for weapons.

I run with a docking computer since I am lazy and like to browse the boards while docking. D3 shield generator allows me to boost straight through any ship up to a Cobra that is blocking my path through the letterbox. Never had a NPC interdiction leave me with hull damage.

Python is quicker to turn than the T7 and I suppose my trade runs are quicker now. And it is more fun to fly.

Unsure what I will do next, the logical progression would be to ditch the Python for a T9 I suppose... but that only starts another grind, so I would rather save up around 50M and outfit an A-rated Asp, methinks...

Thanks FD for the options! :D

I'm in the same position only 1 jump each way. Thanks to an excellent piece of advice I read on here somewhere I swap an 8T cargo rack for a fuel scoop when the tank is low to refill then swap back. I've done that once so far and it's only cost me 250k in heat damage but maybe next time I'll make a profit! ;)
