And if they did decide to rename it, why on Earth (Capitol, sorry) would they just remove an R from the name and call it a day?
Given the system's history, it seems plausible there would once have been a need to take the "her" out of "Achernar".

They will stay the same, you've never met the IAU have you?![]()
Fair enough, but my response would be that Achernar isn't just some random, nice sounding name. It has a root in Arabic and has a meaning ("The end of the river", that being the river of the constellation Eridanus). I find it hard to believe that future colonists, wanting to name their new home's sun, wouldn't just keep that heritage. And if they did decide to rename it, why on Earth (Capitol, sorry) would they just remove an R from the name and call it a day? That's just lazy.![]()

you masterfully steered away from the Deeso Vs. Dizzo issue![]()
Almost all placenames in the world are based on some old meaning, but have become warped in spelling or pronunciation over time. Your own state got it's name from the earlier Spanish name "Arizonac", which itself is derived from "ali sonak" (small spring). If such changes can happen in a few hundred years, what will happen to the names of stars in the next 1300 years? Even Achernar is a warping of "Akhir An-Nahr".
All words and names are fluid. The most unbelievable thing is that the stars would all bear the same names by the time of Elite.
Hang on, isn't this all a storm in a teacup?

doesnt the achenar system's description mention something about some "quirky accent of imperial citizens" ?![]()
