ED, the rift and sweetFX

Ok, tested (from link and text on first post), played with the PageUp Key to turn it ON and OFF, using the first training mission (asteroids and toxic stuffs), and APPROVED! what a difference, it's like going from a blurry dark world to the real crispy and light one. I never noticed asteroids had so much detail as now you can see all reliefs, even HUD texts (customized to green) are more readable, what an enhancement! I will never understand why we have to use such injector for years for lot of games without having this included on vanilla version. Great, thanks again! :)

It doesn't work, I get:

sweetfx error.png

OP and I went through a few things via PM - thanks by the way ;), even tried sweetfx 1.5.x which is newer than the linked version (different settings file). No joy. I am jealous :p

Just checked the site

Q: I keep getting an error when using DX11 on Win 8.1 ?
A: The dxgi.dll needs to be updated to support some DXGI changes that Win8.1 introduced. Future versions of the injector should have Win8.1 support.
You can still use DX9 games with SweetFX under Win8.1, and some DX10/11 games still work on Win8.1.
Telling Windows 8.1 to use Windows 7
compability mode also works for some.
RadeonPro also works (even for non radeon-cards - yes you can use the SweetFX support in RadeonPro with nvidia cards).

After trying it in Assetto Corsa and iRacing where it was a big benefit, I tried it in ED and didn't like it. I don't like the posterizing+outline effect those settings have. The settings I found for Assetto only apply sharpening and it's enough to give clarity without side effects. They didn't have any effect in ED because it's sharp already so I ended up removing it.

For those wondering what it does, here's a video with it applied to iRacing. As far as I'm aware it doesn't work with direct mode. Only extended.

Heyyyy, he's on Road America in that video.

I go up there every year for the MotoGP double header.

+1 - smoother, crisper ... some strangeness on loading screen and first menu but quickly settles down.Every little tweak improve the immersion and experience, but this one feels like a significant improvement. Can even read the red communications now with my green based HUD.It's free so there is nothing to loose - try it if you haven't.Thank you for sharing. I go there every year 3rd week of June for the Nationwide race. They changed the format this year and it now runs in August. Plymouth Rock campground right across the street from the track

Same error as above in Win 8.1 (had to try anyway). Thanks anyway, I'll keep an eye out for the new version.

When installed it, it does NOT look ANYthing like this. All I get is a super blown-out, over-contrasted, over-saturated, cartoon looking game. YUUUCCKKK..

Did you do the contrast and brightness tuning on the rift screen ? Try change some settings as colors and contrast choice may varies

In the settings file you can change the numbers for liftgamma gain in order to tune down the over blown effect if the rift screen bright and contrast trick dont work

I spent the evening yesterday in the game with it enabled. We have for sure a great enhancement, text more readable, more detailed crisper 3D models as we see each small relief, better view of other ship during fighting, etc. but I agree this is too much. Over contrasted and saturated. I'll try to fine tune those settings as turning it off is definitively a step back due to the blur removed with SweetFX. I think we can probably find something in between.

Can't get this to work.
Download and extracted into folder with the .32 file in, but see no difference. Page up does nothing.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong???

Did you do this setting?
Nvidia panel for the rift:
brightness: 37%
contrast: 0%
digital vibrance: 65%

When you extracted the files did you select everything (including the ---> ..) so it keeps the file structure?

Not sure.... Will try again
Should extract into a sweet fx folder or all separate?

Open the rar and select everything, including the .. and extract to the correct ED folder listed in the OP, at least that was why it didn't work for me initially.

I haven´t seen any difference between my last setup with a 970 (AA: SMAA), and new one (sweetfx with AA: OFF).
In Asetto Corsa and iRacing the difference is huge!

Anyway, i liked a lot new config for nvidia control panel (better than before with default config)

brightness: 37%
contrast: 0%
digital vibrance: 65%
