Galnet News: The sorry fate of Hank Stone

I haven't been there so I don't know how if the Asteroids in LAWD 26 are densel packed or only a few scattered around?
One of the main problems I had with Mining is keeping track of the Asteroids I've already mined and which ones I have yet to try. If we can get some sort of Buoy or Tracking Beacon that we can plant on an asteroid, so we know it's been checked and then possibly catalogued in your own personal log for future reference, would be so helpful for every Miner, we'd also be able to gather the data on LAWD 26 Asteroid field that it would finally put this to rest that there is or isn't any Rich Metal Deposits there to be found

The problem with that is the instancing. It used to be the case, in Beta, that if you went in to an asteroid field it was the same every time. The problem with that was that when the chunks stopped rolling, you just exited the instance and rejoined it. The depleted asteroid was no longer depleted. Rinse.

To get around this issue being used as an exploit, the asteroid loads were then randomly assigned in each instance. So Buoys won't help.

If the field is Metal Rich rather than Metallic, then I find you have to do a lot of hunting to find the one or two roids that contain the 40-60% metal yield.

The clusters in LAWD26 are certainly the biggest I have ever seen, not that I have played that much, but previous clusters only had a small amount of rocks, these ones have loads.

I've been to each asteroid cluster in the system after the first news on Galnet but before the most recent one, and did not find anything of value (just rutile / lepidolite stuff). I didn't mine each asteroid in the cluster (just took a sample from a random one, moved on).

So...

Is Hank any relation to Keith? If so, I can definitely see where the alcoholism comes in...

Oh, and we've established this GalNet post is bunk, right? At least for folks who have a ship capable of decent haulage (T6, etc.).

What the heck is up with LAWD 26??

I chalked the incident with Furbaide up to glitches and such, but this whole thing with Lawd 26 is bewildering. Why advertise, multiple times, on GalNet that a system is full of undiscovered Gold, and that a rush of miners is going there, when there is nothing of the sort going on? As far as I can tell, a new station showed up, perhaps the mineral reserves were remarked as pristine (I'm speculating here), but there's no gold. If there is, it's pretty hard to find, as I prospected for quite a while. Not exactly consistent with a gold rush, in my opinion.

The crazy thing is, a simple look at the System Map indicates EXACTLY what to expect. Two rocky 'roid belts, and a metal-rich planetary ring - Nothing to write home about, and definitely not the kind of system I'd expect to find gold in, in any kind of appreciable quantities whatsoever. So why bill it as such? As I'm based in Sol, I slapped a refinery and mining lasers on my T6 and, fool that I am, headed over. I guess I thought FD might have a surprise in store, but it turned out to be exactly what I expected. I suppose it is notable that it's right next door to Sol, and the reserves are pristine, but still, I don't get it. This whole situation is just bizarre to me. Am I missing something here?

Really? No one else finds this strange?

Out of curiosity: Did you expect a big sign saying "Go here for gold - all you can carry, enjoy your stay". ?

IF there is gold, it kinda makes sense its hard to find still. Just because you dig a pit in Klondike doesnt mean you will finde gold instantly.

Yes, because I dug one pit, found no gold, then left. I tested each location, multiple times, and found EXACTLY what I should have, given the description in the system map. Next time, tone down the sass, Ms. Sassafras ;)

Actually no.

After several desasters with Community Events and a long history of GALnet epic failures... Not a whole lot still even read whatever it writes.
All I know is : if there's a "Player Magnet" being advertised on GALnet - that's the only place in the Galaxy I certainly will not go to.

I yet have to see a GALnet news what doesn't turn into a complete failure, trap or misleading chaos in one way or another.

GALnet has achieved a significant fame by now, albeit in a very nonsensical/negative way.
At times, I thought some badly programmed Bot wrote it - or at least someone who has never played the game. Saw and read about quite a few complete disconnects of GALnet from the actual gaming reality.

Yeah, I know. I'm trying to give FD the benefit of the doubt, but it is hard sometimes. Still, I was right next door, so I figured I'd give it another shot. "Hope springs eternal", as they say ;)

did any of you guys try to dock at Stone's Legacy while you were there? in my Cobra i had the throttle maxed out in SC and the station was still gaining slightly on me, i couldn't catch it. i had to use the planet's slowdown phenomenon to jag a safe exit window before i could land there. what a weird orbit.

GalNet news says "metal rush", not just gold.

Station offers all kinds of metal on high supply (low stock, however) and all the other goods are bought with high demand.
So you can make some money trading if you are quick, perhaps that's the point?
Mining can be done here, too, of course, but there are better systems ...

I am wondering if the idea of such posts is to cause a concentration of pilots in a particular area. I mean, everyone is so far out that it can get very lonely out there.

Just wondering.

Lawd 25 Gold Rush, Willow-the-wisp??

I've did some prospecting the same day the Hank Stone Story hit Galnet. (no-gold) and considering there was only one star in the system, I discoevered the second star, and the planet with the rings...not that information seams to be present. /cmd Woakes...just so you know.

And even though the systems info has altered, and a new stations has appeared. (still no gold)

On each return back to the area, even on the first flight there.

There is this.....glitch.

A dot, well actually two dots rendered on my viewport, a strong one and weak one

It seams to react to direction / rotation / orientation. Like a broken lense flare effect

It doesn't happen anywhere else.

Has anyone else seen this?

Could it be a willow-the-wisp, some kind of tantalizing clue to track down this not-present gold, or am I going all Hank Stone???

The last GalNet message I have is

Metal Madness Strikes in LAWD 26

The secret is out! There's a metal rush happening in LAWD 26, with thousands of entrepreneurs heading to the region in the hope of making their fortune before one of the big three mining corporations can establish a presence in the system.

News first broke about the newly discovered pristine mining site early last week, when a large quantity of raw gold was found aboard a Sidewinder that had been abandoned at Crook's Hub Starport in Toolfa. It turned out that the Sidewinder belonged to a Commander Hank Stone (deceased), a well known prospector who had struck it rich when he discovered the previously untapped source of metals.

Doubtless it won't be long before the corporations move in to strip mine the area, but until they do there are some serious credits to be made in LAWD 26 by anyone willing to work hard and get their hands dirty!

Your guess is as good as mine if it actually makes sense / is an event / has been changed.
