Newcomer / Intro pirates

trying to find some pirates but I goto the sector and I goto all of the unidentified signal sources and no pirates anywhere I even waited around one that was rebel transmissions for like 30 minutes and no pirate showed up

Resource Extraction Sites are by far the best place to look for pirates.
They show up at Nav points too fairly regularly.

Go to resource extraction sites - youll have to supercruise to it - make sure though when you drop out, keep normal flying towards it - get within 2-6km - eventually youll see mining ships (npcs) and hang there - then start targeting each ship and scannign them - when you see one that is wanted, odds are its a pirate - ive seen some smugglers in there, but mostly pirates - another thing that can help determine if their a pirate is to buy one commodity at the station before going over to the resource extraction site- when the pirate scans you or says something in the comms he will say something along the lines of "Ohh what do you have for me?" or "What sort of delicious cargo are you holding?" so on and so forth - any one that says this, target them, scan first...make sure you do this and it says wanted...then attack:D

A pirate player found me instead last night. I was carrying Coltan and have just arrived at my destination system when he interdicting me.

He said, "I am pirate. Give me your Coltan or die"

"why? You can help yourself at Maine Hub in Eravate.", I responded.

"I want yours! I am pirate ", he replied.

I tried FSD out but he opened fire at my puny Sidewinder. He's in an Adder. I stopped my ship and looking to jettison my cargo but he went trigger happy.

After travelling in the past 10 mins to get my Coltan to its destination, I figured that I'd rather die and respawn at the place where I got the Coltan from rather than spending another 10 mins going back there and another 10 back.

Pirate : "I told you so. Now die. LOL! "

I saved 10 mins of my life not dealing with a childish pirate. Hehe!

Why is he childish?
He gave your every opportunity to comply and when you didn't, he took you down.

It was you, wasn't it?
True that I was given the opportunity to comply. But to loot over Coltan? It's not like I have Platinum or Gold in my cargo hold. Mature pirates loot more valuable cargoes.

Anyway, I'm not upset. In fact, I was relieved that he took me down. Saved time.

So im taking missions in XIHE trying to raise my reputation with the federation which I haven't been able to do btw all ive don e is raise mhy rep in the sector... but anyway what im asking is I took a mission from zhen dock a federation dock and it said kill 2 traders in huh which is also federation space but then I got a wanted level so had to go back and pay 9300 and now it says I could go kill 5 pirates for wailladyan dominion but what does that raise for me? all I want to do is raise my rankl and rep with the federation. what would be the best sector to be in for that?

There is no "best sector".
Just do missions for the faction aligned with the major faction you wish you rank up in.

You can skip that type of missions though, they're usually more of a hassle than they are worth.

When you get allied with a minor faction, move to the next.

but im at zhen dock and all the missions there even though its federation are lowering my rating with the federation. whats the best system I should goto for federation missions?

The missions are probably not federation missions then.
Look who the faction offering the mission is aligned to.

Just because it's a federation system, it doesn't mean the faction giving the mission is aligned to federation, they can be independent and trying to work against federation.

And ANY federation system works just fine, there isn't any "best" system.
They all give missions.

Xihe is a Federation high tech. You're flying out of Zhen Dock, right?

Do they have a refinery or extraction sideline? Trading with a station is a good way to raise rep. The value of the goods you sell is more important than the value of the goods you buy. High tech systems like metals, particularly precious ones, and superconductors. Find a nearby station that sells them and export something like consumer technology back from Xihe. If Xihe has an extraction economy too, you can export the ores to a nearby refinery economy. If Xihe has a refinery sideline, you can bring them ores and export mineral extractors or resonating separators back.

When you get bored, you can run 8t of Xihe Biomorphic Companions and make probably 120k on them if you travel far enough. Foodstuffs are also in high demand, so you could pop over to Ra, which is nearby (iirc - it's been a while once I've worked in that part of space) to pick them up.

Take missions for the majority Federation faction. ALWAYS complete them - abandoning missions has a very negative effect on your standing with the faction commissioning them that is disproportionate to the positive effect completing them has. Don't take missions you're not sure you can complete.

Be very circumspect about who else you work for - very often, the negative effects on other factions of a completed mission isn't clear until you turn the mission in. That's a great way to kill all the hard work you've done in one stroke.

And be patient - rep with a Federation faction propagates up. If you get to allied status with a Fed faction in Xihe, you should move up to friendly status with all other Fed factions across populated space, which has many benefits, such as not having to ever worry about half the blips on your radar.

I just did a navy federation cargo job and my arrows for federation and the system are still pointing down and red ?

That's the influence in the system changing.
Your actions have consequences to the local political balance.

If it was a navy ascension mission, don't worry too much about it.

thank you that is very helpful. but now I am trying to build my rep and the 3 missions I see are missionsthat have fines attached to them or go kill traders now wont that hurt my rep with the federation and if so why is this station that is a federation station offering illegal missions?

well I noticed my now no arrows lol and my rank with federation is now recruit so I guess even though its a federation station I need to keep an eye on the missions because some of them could still hurt my rating?

As I said, check who offers the mission and look at what faction they are aligned to.
Just because the major faction that runs the station, is aligned to federation, doesn't mean the rest in the system are.

Look in Reputation information sheet in your right side panel.

Rivals to the governing factions also operate within the stations and will offer you missions that are trying to destabilise their influence.

One thing is unclear to me about those kill pirate missions: Is this only possble in supercruise while interdicting them? Or do we have to fly to a spot in 'normal' space and look for them there??

You can only find them in USS while supercruising, no need to interdict.
Reset your throttle and just wait for a USS to pop up, enter it and look for the target.

If it's not there, enter SC and repeat.
