Reporting back. Griefing gameplay is a lot of fun!

FD will get to it when they get to it. That has no impact on the fundamental immorality of griefing.

There is no immorality in it, since it isn't griefing. Just because the victim didn't enjoy it doesn't mean it's griefing. When you get shot and killed in Counter Strike, you don't particularly enjoy it, still it's part of the game. Just like shooting and killing CMDRs for the sake of it is part of ED.

I still don't understand why people complaining about griefers still play in open play when the single player and group player versions of the game is so seamless and still allows you to cross-communicate. The ONLY reason one would be in open play is if they wanted to PVP, grief, or grief griefers (griefer tears are the tastiest).

Only reason? It is not the reason I play in open.

And, yes, it is behaviour that the developers anticipated and accepted. Perhaps even encouraged, given the shift in their target audience. But it is still griefing.

The fact that we still have no consequences for murder is telling. They are playing a very dangerous game (!) in trying to attract all the pew-pewers, because there may be no one left to pew-pew against.

What a lot here have missed is that the OP considers his own actions to be griefing. Whether or not we agree they are actually griefing is irrelevant, the OP clearly finds enjoyment in griefing other players.

That is why eventually open play will just be left with griefers, gankers etc and of course they will cry "The carebears killed the game" instead of looking at their own actions.

I don't understand it either. I just do the trading in solo mode, no way I'm doing it in open play. There's all sorts of maniacs out there :D

I was talking about griefing.
If something is not griefing, then that was not what I was talking about.
Personally I do consider the op's example griefing. I do not think I need to explain why as it is so obvious.

Until someone has pictures/video of him doing what he say's he's doing it's conjecture and I can say he's simply started a thread to get everyone riled up. Yes i know He's SAID he's grieved. I could say I've killed 69 people in in Zimbabwe but that doesn't make it true.

I think this thread is accomplishing exactly what the OP set out to do. Get people thinking. Maybe even a little angry. You don't like Grieving? Me either! So we should make a clear cut definition of what we consider grieving in ED and then Yell at Mike Evans to do something about it.

And to the players that think this game needs Pirates. It needs pirates like it needs a bad case of space herpes. One well equiped pirate can cause dozens of players to rage quit and never look back. I've seen some of the answers to this. "Good let them leave they aren't the kind of players we want anyway." Fine logic. Here's why it doesn't work. Which do you think FD wants. Those dozens of players playing nicely in the sand box or the one clown trying to steal everyone else's toys?

No, sorry but i don't feel like the game needs pirates. Pirates will run off players just as fast as grieving will. And at this stage in the game. As new as it is. If you TRULY support ED then the last thing you should want to do is cause anyone to rage quit.

And yes i know some think the solution is for those players to stay solo. It would be a shame if they wanted to be slightly sociable. And if this game is going to last then it's going to need players to stick around and pay for DLC.

So maybe consider that the next time you want to pirate another player. "Gee could this make this person leave the game for good?" If you answer yourself with "Hmm, I just don't care." Then congratulations, you're a griever.

Good info from the OP. Never realized my point defense or turreted weapons could be such a liability inside a station. No more Open play for me. Six million cr rebuy on my Python after a good fight is one thing, losing it because some dumb ass inside a station starts a fight, not so good.

Precisely why I play in a Private Group. Might be a little fun for you, but potentially disastrous for that other poor guy.

And respect to you for understanding your options and using them rather than sitting and complaining about it.

Have a +1 for using your head.

If you intentionally do something that doesn't help you progress in-game and negatively affects another player, fully knowing that the other player won't like it, and don't care about what the other player will think or how he will react, then you are griefing. Only a griefer will do things he knows will ruin someone else's day just for a cheap kick.

Getting shot and killed in Counter Strike isn't (usually) griefing because the other player signed up specifically for that conflict. There are exceptions, though; for example, if the other team decides to just keep hunting one specific player of the other team even if it hinders their own chances of victory, or if someone decides to just kill his own team, then that is griefing.

Thankfully, ED has ways for the targeted players to deal with it, by putting the griefer in their ignore list, joining a group, or playing solo. The main reason stated in the DDR for solo and group modes, and freely switching to and from them, to remain in the game is to allow players to avoid anything the player perceives as griefing, after all.

That moment when the 10 - 15? year old, self absorbed, self centred, the world revolves around me and I'm entitled player realizes that ruining someone else's gameplay should never enter their thinking as long as they are having fun. You are exactly the reason so many of us will never play open, if we stay with this game at all.

hinders their own chances of victory

There it is darkwalker. The definition. There is nothing more to gain than chaos and disorder.

I still enjoy stories of blockade attempts and pirate cmdrs dicting me. But if this gets to be like early mmos like ultima online (i think it was that) where u couldnt even play or progress well, like someone said, there are other options. A shame. I love openplay, dont mind pirates (18 Ts lost in 5 dicts)(awesome fun),and dont care for solo.

Why did this thread get dug up again? The info is totally irrelevant outside of the obvious griefing. You can't even do this anymore...

Is it more arrogant to ruin someones else's day for fun or to think that the world must always go your way, all the time and complain when it doesn't? Sure griefers are jerks, but the people who freak out when something doesn't go their way, are worse imo. It's a Video game, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes you get killed, sometimes you do the killing. As a pirate, i've been called names that would make a sailor flustered. I've even learned new combination of curse words from the people, who can't take it when a game doesn't go their way.

Killing, stealing, trading, exploring, mining, hunting, all of these are completely valid in game and supported by the devs, but people only have a problem with the first two, they seem to think because it negatively effects others it's griefing. They are not, griefing is negatively effecting others in a way not supported by the gamemakers, such as team killing or killing people in stations(which is why this was fixed). Since murder and piracy was confirmed valid by the devs, they are not, and can never be griefing.

Why do people like this assume those who like to play the "Bad guy" are teenagers?

I'm utterly sick of this generalization.

It is griefing and you are a person of questionable ethics, in my opinion. The OP exploited a confirmed bug to kill CMDRs in a completely cowardly fashion, like all good psychopaths and sadists. If you feel that this is valid game play, shame on you.

This is Elite, not Counter Strike. As mentioned before, you Griefers will likely be all alone in Open at some point. The grown-ups will mostly play in Solo or Group.
