If you could own a capital ship what would you call it?

Cable Hogue after Neal Asher's gravity inducing massive floating ball of anarchy in his Agent Cormac novels. That said, I don't think anything in the Elite games would ever be that big and deserving of that title tho.

I would risk being sued by News and call my ship Mianus.

I would take the ship on a tour of the galaxy, showing off Mianus to everyone who will look. I'd also encourage as many people as possible to dock at Mianus, and I'd hope they're take part in pleasurable activities whilst in Mianus. Of course those sorts of things can get messy, and it would probably take a lot of people to regularly clean Mianus.

Not sure if it would pass Frontier's filters or not :-/ As a justification I would say that I've always felt a close spiritual connection to Mianus, Conneticut.

That's a great name Darren. Although may I just suggest, or rather demand, that this ship must be in a constant orbit of Uranus.

I'd name my ship, be it a Capital or a small fighter or any, "C.P. Benedict" (the Garden Centre King).

I have no wish to own a capital ship. If I did, I'd probably take a name from sci-fi - the Winston Niles Rumfoord.
Either that, or I'd make up my own (which I'll definitely be doing for my Sidewinder/Cobra III).

SS-pew pew

or

Do you feel lucky....punk?

But all kidding aside... Aurora would be the name of my capitol ship.

I've been reading "The Hydrogen Sonata" by Iain M Banks recently, so I think some of his strange Culture ship names would be fun.

Something like the "Just a washing machine chip in life's tapestry" and other wierd ship names :D

Yepp, I'd do the same and either pick one of those, or invent something similar (one of my favourites is "So Much For Subtlety").

While we are at it - I used the search function but could not find a thread where this was discussed - will we be able to name our (non-capital) ships so that others may see those names? And if yes, will the names be printed on the hull?

Just a bit of fun if you could have your very own Capital ship what would you call it?

Thunder Child: named after the iron clad from War Of The Worlds.

In Star Trek Online I name my ships after people I admire. But I also like to name them ...hmm...is there a word...scientific phenomena.

Like 'Event Horizon', 'Dark Matter' (Tm,C), 'Wave Function(Tm,C)' and I sometimes name them after medieval weapons. 'Longbow', or some Scottish ancient dagger, Sgianh Dubh.
