Anti griefing suggestion

I am sure I am gonna get schooled on game mechanics for this but here goes my suggestion anyway:

"Fake" Npc ships.

Shows up as a human player on your radar. And it randomly (from occurrence to occurrence) generates different Cmdr names so it cant be "noted and avoided" by griefers/psycho/murderers/etc.

So,,,,,,,,,,,

When fired upon it unleashes (with extreme prejudice) an attack on the offending player. It has unlimited shields and firepower so the player gets a taste of what he/she is dishing out.

While this may not solve all the complaints about senseless killings, it will reduce them. Coz nobody will ever be sure if the ship they are firing on is that "fake" Npc.

And hopefully lead to some FTH stories that get reported back from witnesses on this forum.

FD are not going to implement NPCs that cheat in such a manner.

Of course, if they had implemented the proposed transponder mechanism to allow CMDRs to not be flagged as PCs, then the issue would be much reduced. As lots of people said at the time. I have no problem being attacked by a CMDR playing his 'role', such as a 'proper pirate'. I have every problem having to fly around with a 'flashing blue light' that immediately identifies me as a PC, so players who want to preferentially attack PCs know who to attack.

I don't see it as a cheat. I see it as a fair warning to those who would just kill "because they can" to think twice before pulling the trigger.

And see how it feels,,,,,,

Attacking other players, even without an obvious reaseon, is not griefing, so no "solution" is needed here.

edit: Let me add, that of course it should be considered a crime in game, so, as I suggested in another thread, the police should show up after a while, but that's a different matter.

Or just make all target icons the same, solid or hollow.

That could work.

Just... what?! You know how the complaints about senseless killings can be reduced? By not complaining about it.

That makes as much sense as:

If you don't like getting murdered, don't die...........

The way to fix it is to make the AI Police 'cheat' in the same way AI Pirate NPCs can spawn in places they logically shouldn't be, and in some cannot get to in the first place.

Have the cops spawn close and instantly once Pirates destroy a 'clean' ship and make sure they come armed ready for bear. I have seen NPC Adders with Plasma Guns, so the Cops should get the best gear, perhaps some of the removed 'overpowered' weapons that were in the game?

Make the 'Pariah' status for killing a clean ship and make it stick for 24 / 48 hours. Pariah means 'shoot on sight' in any civilized area. Allow Pariah's to dock at Pirate stations - those with the Skull Holograms, but you can't pay off bounties / fines etc. there.

Pirates can still Pirate using the 'warning shot drop cargo' / limpet method, but people just killing for the sake of it will have to take the consequences.

Don't see the griefing here. Attacking other players in open play is not griefing (unless the attacker is exploiting game mechanics to get an advantage not intended by FD, e.g. when some players were able to sit inside a station and kill people at will as they tried to launch.) but just pulling someone out of supercruise to murder them is not griefing. If it is griefing, then NPCs need to stop doing that to me when I go exploring.

Look its just a suggestion that would not effect anyone other than the "Shoot first, ask questions later,,,er wait,,,, JUST SHOOT, to hades with questions!"

Good point. Would be a GREAT reason to have the "fake" Npc dock and takeoff. Imagine the surprise.

I play as a bounty hunter. I hunt down criminals and want to protect the pilots who can not do it themselves.

However some players will RP as killers and that is fair.

Greifing is only when the assult is against YOU personaly and is done over and over again by the same person. (I mean some ppl call the blockad at hudson dock greifing)

But the solution is to have the AI be hard as nails that they are as good as players.

PS ; sometimes I have dummy wares in my hold , I use them as bait but what you can do is drop on or two and jump out , most players will fall for it

Personally, I feel it was a mistake being allowed to "magically" identify a human player from an AI without a full scan. I mean, can you tell the gender of a person who is driving a car is just by looking at the tires?
