Paid for DLC due soon?

Can't seem to find any announcements about this. Bit frustrated that I bought the lifetime upgrade pass, but so far haven't had any benefit from it. I understand it's only been a three months since release (just under) but I had expected by now, there would have been some small benefit to those who invested in this option?

3 months after release and you expected paid dlc already? This game will (hopefully) be here for a long time lets get some meat on these bones before we start charging...

as long as all updates are free i don't lose anything by having the expansion pass.

note: it was made for expansions, not "minor" upgrades like wings...
things like "planetary landings" and such.

those i won't expect in the near future.
maybe the first for the one year anniversary.

In 3 months, I don't want to sound bad, but do you know how much time it takes to build computer games?

put aside the coding aspect for a minute, moddling texturing and sounds alone are a phenomenal task, when the coding comes into it tying it altogether then the play testing and debugging. in 3 months you'd be lucky to create a single untextured ship model as a single person. with a team it might go a bit quicker but you know the saying you can't rush perfection.

i think they did state somewhere that they plan to or have already started working on the planetary landing aspect which might see a release toward the end of the year. but i'm sure i read this during the release week. afaik nothing is set in stone, you'll just have to wait it out, as you said its a lifetime pass so unless you plan on dying this year you should see something from your investment by the end of the year.

Let me explain this to you - paid DLCs these days are essentially content cut from main game to get more money from fans.

FD plan to provide expansions which will add new whole gameplay elements, not rehashed/reskined old ones. This takes quite some time. So most likely first expansion will come around end of this year (my bet is walking in ships).

I wouldn't expect any paid for expansions for quite some time. I would guess 2016 at the earliest. Particularly with the Xbox announcement; I can imagine they would want to wait first to build up a good sized playerbase on the consoles before they start pushing DLCs.

I'm sort of with Edgar. I'd be very surprised to see fully fleshed out planetary landings this year (or even next), but things like walking around your ship may come sooner. Would far rather they stuck to fleshing out the current game with what was discussed in the DDA/DDF though. (OK, expansions are probably now with separate teams, but...)

by the time i got to know Elite Dangerous,...there was only mercenary edition, and all i got were wallpapers and ringtones!
i will like to see option for paid for expansions so i can rest assured for years to come i have elite addiction covered :D

If the XBOne version is due out later this year, then I can't see them releasing any paid-for DLC for a couple of months after that, at least.

Day 1 Paid-for DLC comes across as shady and as a cash grab. I would guess that they want to avoid that kind of negative perception, especially given the level of bitterness that already exists towards the company amongst a certain section of the existing player base...

I'd rather see FD go the expansion route for major additions and stick with cosmetics for extra revenue (if they can manage that way). Not totally opposed to the idea of DLCs but I find that in most games they aren't really worth it.

Can we please stop calling it DLC. Its insulting to Frontier. DLC has earn't a reputation as often being worthless fluff and at best short missions or levels.

The word is EXPANSION

We may see DLC as an incentive to sell the XBOX One version but its likely to be just ship skins and decals.

Complaining about lack of expansions 3 months after release is just laughable especially when in the interim Frontier are constantly feeding us updates and improvements to the main game free of charge.

I'd place a wager that 2.0 will be Paid DLC as well as 3.0 and so on.. so if they roll out a .1 update every month we can expect to be shelling out sometime in November. taking into account a possible setback or two.

Then again since FD makes it money off game purchases and merchandise and not subscriptions it might be sooner rather than later :\

You're just about to get the Release Version of the Game (Which spells 1.2 by FD, because they rushed the v0.8 branded as v1.0 for release before X-Mas).
So you just have to have a little more patience. ;)

Anyway, spend money before a release of a product might be well thought.
You really can't blame others then you if you don't get what you expecting.
I spend 60$ for Star Citizen and might never get a game that i actual like or enjoy.
But that's ok for me, because if i would care about it, i would wait till i know what i get and if i like it.
And thats one reason i usually don't preorder anything.
The other is a certain feeling that if i pay ahead and already spend my money,
the manufacturer may not put as much effort in its product anymore, as when he must count of it to convince me first to sell it to me.

Other than that, i never believed the extensions would come within a year.
I expect the planetary landing to come in about 2 years (if ever - because i'm a bit worried by all that negativity i read about the game all the time).
But if they do it good enough and sooner, i have nothing against it. ;)
