Sorry if daft question.... Disabling voice in voice attack.

Hi

I was a VA virgin until a few days ago. For the most part I love it, inc the voice feedback you get from the mods for it, however

is there any "1 click" way to disable the computer voice (NOT the voice recognition isself) for when I am gaming with mates? I was having a chat last night with mates and the computer voice getting confused and asking me "yes to what commander" or "no what commander" meant I needed to turn it off. I did have a quick look but could not find an obvious button to do what i want.

I know i could just run with VA disabled completely, however I have made a decent binds file i am happy with.

Because I game on the rift, a few of the controls are a PITA to use without VA, mainly shield boosters and chaff. Ideally I would like to have VA still running, but in "silent mode" so i can still use it when needed at a pinch..

is this an option? thanks.

In the latest VA beta (1.5.7.4) you have an option, 'SOUND FILE VOLUME OFFSET' Slide it to zero to mute sounds but keep commands.

Never had a need to use it, not sure if you can setup a command like 'Shut up A.S.T.RA' ;) hmmm I'll check

thanks for the info... i will check it out next time i get online :)

If you don't want to get into the trouble of doing it in VA then I assume you can always just mute it from the Windows audio mixer. All active applications are shown there, so just find VA and mute it.

Or try Speech2Keys (freeware). It has commands for going offline. This will put the software in a state where it will only recognize the 'come online' command or the name you give it ("Alexa" by default, but configurable) after which it will resume full functionality.

First tutorial and download link here:

And, of course, it has a "shut up" command when a long reply gets on your nerves :D

Yeah. I'm sure all the voice attack guys will just run right out for that steaming pile. Lol

You can already command voice attack to go offline/online.. The OP wants a command to disable his ships 'vocal reply's' temporarily, whilst still being able to issue commands.

In other words, carry out my instructions, but keep yer mouth shut! ;)

Edit - Op, if you are still around send me your profile, I can duplicate it and set it to carry out orders silently, you only have to issue one command to swap to the duplicate profile.

Ah, I missed that. Seems like a sensible functionality. I'll add this to Speech2Keys and upload an updated version tonight :D

I like to listen to my Hayley talk, but then again, I don't have her saying something for every little thing either. One suggestion for you voice pack creators out there, how about having a few levels of importance attached to the voice response, and your users can set the verboseness of the voice on the fly (even with commands such as "Just the basics" or "can you just stop rambling for a bit").

Latest beta 1.5.7.6 haven't tried it yet myself.

I'm showing version 1.5.7 and says have latest version, so guess 1.5.7.4 didn't make it to finals

I still have 1.5.7.4, downloaded a few days ago. He put up a new version, nothing in it that I need so am sticking with this for now.

EDIT - You wont be able to update through the program itself. You have to get the updates through the forum. These are beta updates, kinda use at your own risk. Still I find my latest one as stable as the rest.

Cheers

In options theres a "enable notification sounds" maybe unchecking that will turn off its talking

Not related, but the new wildcards are a huge addition. It brings VA a bit closer to trying to interpret what you've said instead of matching the exact command. I can already think of a few that would benefit with asterisks on both sides, so that when you yell or gasp and say a command during combat, it'll still take. Basically not needing that pause beforehand that requires you to repeat it.

777driver - "...a command like 'Shut up A.S.T.R.A.' would really love to see this.

Maybe not so rudely (knew you were joking) but perhaps a cmd "enough" that could be tagged on any cmd that had voice output to act as a "kill it" function.

Ask ASTRA about the full description for a Type 9. Then ask for landing permission.

Or here is a fun one. Ask ASTRA for the full description of a Type 9, then right away for a Type 7, followed right away by a Type 6 .... don't wait for her to finish any of them. Now, go pop a few onion heads and relax.

Actually all of that can be programmed very quickly in Voice attack :) I have it in my profile.. Probably about 20 commands to shut her up, most I cant post here ;)

Always seems to be in the middle of a battle when she randomly starts talking to me about Quantum mechanics or something else :/ I'll say shut up and focus!!

You can also get updates from the voice attack website on the download page. A link is there to download betas. I have not had trouble with their beta updates. They are adding good things that are helpful.

Yep, the tool is becoming incredibly powerful, my profle has around 3000+ commands responses, a lot of stuff used for outside of ED, it starts to feel like an AI

You can do a couple of things.

1. Create a voice command to put VA to sleep - it basically stops listening until you command it to wake up.
2. Use (if you have one) a joystick button as a "push to talk" button - while the button is pressed VA will not listen for commands. Handy for us who use Teamspeak in PTT mode.
