I bought a Vulture....

Had a go in the beta, and really loved the ship. Very very fun to fly. Brings you to do certain show-off movements that you couldn't do in other ships.
In fact I got quite carried away in that ship! Was very fun to fly.

But... big but though. Not worth the amount they are asking for it. There are other ships that bring a lot more utility and generally are just better for a fraction of the cost (cobra for example).

It's fun to fly, don't get me wrong. But after using it extensively in numerous areas (combat, trading etc) it should be priced at just a few million at most. It just doesn't do anything special apart from being able to turn quick.

How good is the jump range?

After just a few upgrades in beta (Power Supply, Thrusters, Sensors) it had a 7LY jump range. Not much. But that number could be changed post release.

Nope, but I got mine at LFT 928, then flew over to Founders to get the upgrades at a discount.

What did you load it with?

Mine is loaded like this....

[Vulture] L: 3C/G Beam Laser L: 3C/G Beam Laser U: 0F Electronic Countermeasure U: 0I Heat Sink Launcher U: 0D Shield Booster U: 0D Shield Booster BH: 1I Lightweight Alloy RB: 4A Power Plant TM: 5C Thrusters FH: 4A Frame Shift Drive EC: 3D Life Support PC: 5A Power Distributor SS: 4B Sensors FS: 3C Fuel Tank (Capacity: 8) 5: 5B Shield Generator 4: 4B Fuel Scoop --- Shield: 236.44 MJ Power : 12.74 MW retracted (82%) 16.50 MW deployed (106%) 15.60 MW available Cargo : 0 T Fuel : 8 T Mass : 359.6 T empty 367.6 T full Range : 15.75 LY unladen 15.75 LY laden Price : NaN CR Re-Buy: NaN CR @ 95% insurance

With cargo hatch off and FSD/fuel scoop set to 3 to save 6% whilst fighting it's at 98%

People complaining about prices need to realize this is the beginning of the game, soon every player will be so rich that they will have nothing to sink their credits in and gameplay will just be a breeze. Happened even in eve online. Where losing a capital ship became nothing for the average player. Too much credits and too easy to make.

Also the fer de lance and vulture have strong shields/armor/weapons yet are as maneuverable and fast as the best fighter....

Strange - I bought mine at Founders a couple of hours ago...

Now that's annoying!

They def didn't have it earlier - only selling 13 ships, and neither Vulture or FDL were there.

I'd flown there in a disposable Sidey yesterday for this express reason, so was a bit miffed when I had to go hunting around for one...

They DO sell it, a friend just bought his there

Grrr! ;)

I am a trader mostly, but from time to time i am trying some combat. The vulture made that kinda easy for me. My combat skills are below medium i guess and for the first time i really did not have big problems killing anacondas and pythons. It's an amazing ship, and now i understand the steep price. Never in my fights today did the shields drop. I have A shields and a little D shield booster... feels really tanky. I am using 2 gimballed pulse lasers. With zero pips to thrusters this thing still goes up to 200 speed, very nice.
I am sure every competent player could kill me in battle, but at least NPCs are all doable now for me.

Um, meant to blow up?

I don't think it is, unless you keep hitting 'self-destruct' by accident :D

Trading is the support mechanism for the fun stuff imho...I do it to make money to fund this sort of ship, then I go out and have FUN!

C'mon, don't start this you xp

A fighter ship is more likely to be lost doing its job (fight) than a trader ship doing his (trade), right?

That was what I meant.

And trading was never a way to support fighting, see those on solo and mobious? They don't fight, just like a ton doesn't trade.

Yep I'm sold. Gonna get this bad boy as soon as 1.2 downloads. Anyone know a spot in Empire space to grab it?

I tried several variants, major power issues on the Vulture if you want to use a KWS. I used a 4 shield instead of a 5, best power, and lowest engines. Using good weapons I was always around 110% to 120% with hardpoints.

Keep in mind that they're C3s. C3 pulses obliterate smaller ships easily. If you downgrade shield or thrusters from A spec you can run bursts, which do even more hull damage.

This... 2 large burst lasers = powerplant murder on EVERY ship. I killed three anacondas at once with fancy maneuvering and drive destroying, then slaughtered their powerplants. I think on a full charge at close range, 2 gimballed bursts will kill an anaconda powerplant in 10 or so seconds... Strong signal sources can be fun :)

Loving mine too, screw shield boosters and shield cells, this baby doesn't need any! :)

Finally a ship to replace the Eagle as my main combat ship!
