Is this a pending price drop on ships?

Galnet news: Tax reduction on combat-capable ships?

There are VERY interesting news on Galnet today, regarding a massive campaign acted by Federal Navy's Admiral Vincent, to LOWER taxes on Combat ships. Massive discounts coming? :D

FDEV has a certain history to balance things by managing expectations via limiting extremes first, so the striken "final" balance is appreciated by the community. They did the same thing with gimbal weapon locking in speeds. Went from one extreme to the other so to test player tolerances and then it was balanced at a majorly agreeable point.

What you mean just like real scales balance!

I haven't read the post. Is there a chance this is just the reduced insurance costs?

Edit: two threads got merged and now this comment makes me look dum

Refunds to those who already purchased a craft at the old price? So if I go and buy a car for $28000.00 and then 3 months later they drop the price on that vehicle to $23000.00, I should get a $5000.00 refund or discount on my next purchase? That would be nice, but it just doesn't happen.

I would definitely vote no for refunds for those who already purchased a craft at the higher price. They agreed to pay the price at the time of purchase. No one said they had to buy that ship. But I will say that their rebuy cost should drop accordingly to 5% of the current price of the ship plus modules.

This sounds very promising. Still wouldn't want a FDL even at half the current price, thing handles like a stuck pig. But a cheaper Vulture would make me a very happy bunny.

As for a refund for the over eager amongst us - definitely no. If you go and buy the latest Apple iGadget at full price do you get a refund when the price comes down? Didn't think so....

Interesting approach. So, should we expect Vulture at 5 mil range, and FDL at 25? Testing the other extremes I mean :D

I mean, I see your logic... but just imagine the front page of the forums if they did this. Lol. Kinda makes me hope they do... but not really

Good thing more people will be able to experience the great work sound and visual design on the FdL. Well handled FD.

Now waiting for the other half of the forum to get their knickers in a twist and start posting how FdLs are too common and the game is designed purely for the "pew pew Vulture players"

I would have thought those that bought the new ships can still sell for the original price, that's how it always works with discount ships. Am not interested in the FDL since flying it in Beta, but a cheaper Corvette may interest me when it rolls out next month.

Anyway, someone plonking down 100 mill on a FDL isn't worried about cash :) I have 300 mill and still wouldn't spend 100 mill on a FDL

No, this is not how it works on the discounted ships. I've bought several Python's at Jameson Memorial with 0%, 10%, and 12.5% discount and each time the selling price is 10% less than I have paid for the ship. Meaning that those who have bought FDL at Jameson are going to lose 9M Cr, and those who have bought it without discount are going to lose 10M Cr.

This means that a solution for this issue should be introduced at the same time the prices are decreased. E.g.:
1. Remove FDL's depreciation for several days/weeks to allow people to buy a cheaper ship without losses.
2. Credit players' balance by the value equal to the depreciation losses.

since it's a "tax reduction" and not "halving the production cost", i don't expect it will satisfy everyone ;)

Have you seen the Federal tax rates? The worst parts are, the knock-on effects mean the companies sell for the same price in Imperial ships.

Only Gutamaya ships (only available in the Empire) benefit from the Empire tax rates and economy and passes that benefit down to us commanders. They even valet the ship before selling it onto you second hand, rather than leave doughnut stains in when the ship was retired from security services and GalCop (Faulcon deLacy Viper, I'm looking at you).

Support your local Gutamaya dealership today. A Clipper one day will keep the Federals at bay.

If you have been guaranteed to being able to resell that car for 90% of the buying price any time you want, then yes, you SHOULD get a refund.

I'm quite sure they will refund the difference to those who already purchased - they've done things like that in the past.

Too bad automobile dealers won't do that. And I'm glad I didn't have the money to buy one of these ships, because then if I was issued the refund, I would feel obligated to crash into stations until the death cost equaled the refund. Yeah. I'm that honest. I don't want things just given to me. I want to earn them. I appreciate them a whole lot more, that way.

If this pans out then major kudos to FDev, always nice when they listen to a player base' concerns and do something about them.

If you read carefully the news on Galnet, they talk about "combat-capable ships". Not only the FDL. And at the end they say that "Empire will be forced to follow or else risk to be undermined by increased combat capabilities of the federal Navy"... :D
Price drop on all Combat-capable ships, Vulture, Clipper too IMHO.

I wonder what the scope of combat-capable is...

A T6 is capable of combat, though it is not recommended. The hauler is the closest thing to being incapable of combat, though even that little nugget can get in a scr.ape with a ship or two.

Interesting news!

On the subject of refunds, I can't imagine the change being profound, but even if it was, wouldn't a higher price represent a period of 'high demand and scarcity' , e.g. when it was brand new. Prices change on all the other resources after all!

The op post suggests it will be across the board, so my personal feeling is a refund isn't really needed. Pays your money you takes your chances
