Unless they make the game less grindy, i think its a good idea. I have ground out around 90 mil so far trading mostly, and its boring as hell. I am pretty much done for now with it. Just got a vulture maxed out and going to stick with that, my clipper is in storage.

Who cares about open mode pecking orders, when you have mode switching at will? When people can, and do, just sit in solo and grind all day then go to open in the biggest ship around? A ship that no one could do anything to stop them getting? Its no different than buying it from a shop, apart from the time factor. If there was only open mode, then i would agree, cash shop would be too much.

As people have hit me over the head with so many times in the past on these forums, why do people care how so many other people play? With different modes, it won't affect your game unless you let it right? If you are one of these people with no life who sits and grinds for 6 hours a day in a type 9, power to you. No idea how you can tolerate it, but each to their own. You can feel a sense of achievement when you have the time and patience to get one of the big ships through eye bleeding grind. For people that can't stomach that horrific amount of monotony, or who don't have the time because of real life, they could buy ships and it would make no real odds to anyone's game.

If someone would care to explain to me how people buying ships in a shop would affect their game experience, i'm all ears?

For me the grind is prohibitive to many people getting a lot of the ships. Unless they change the way you make credits in this game, i'm all for a cash shop with ships.

I don't see why they shouldn't. It's not like the dynamic ingame economy (non-existent), manufacturing (non-existent), or player clans fighting for territory (non-existent) would suffer because of it. People who hate grind would be happy, FDEV's bank account even more. It's a win-win situation.

No to ptw.

Thread sounds like another 'I'm a **** but won't do a bit of grinding to get a bigger ship' whine albeit dressed up differently.

(****insert applicable non-trader trade here)

When will the penny drop that sometimes you have to do things you don't like to get what you want. God help you in the real world when you leave the safety net of the nest...

No! Worst idea ever!

I dunno, the Germans invading Russia was a pretty bad idea.................this is a GAME dude......
.
Traders, you are not "really rich"....its just game credits.........it does not mean you are really rich and powerful.......lol. It just means you are happy to do the most boring thing, over and over and over and over and over again.......and others, are not.

Suggest you read up on Pay to Win......if I can BUY a ship, that can kick every other ships ass unless YOU buy one, that is Pay to Win........this is "Pay to Avoid Boring Grind That Would Otherwise Drive me From The Game"......not as catchy, but a hell of a difference.......Same ships..........no advantage.......and I am in Solo anyway.....what difference does it make to you how I play?

FD have stated categorically that they would not allow the purchase of advantageous items for cash. I hope they stick with this as while I sympaphise, the game is in the journey and while you may not abuse the option, others will. Currently it's a very boring and grindy journey but hopefully that will improve.

However I can't see how later expansions won't change things and give advantages for the players that have the expansions compared to those that don't.

Too bad Elite isn't a competitive game :D then I may agree with you. I would have no problem with ships being sold in the shop. As I dont have much time to play, if I ever really wanted a conda there is no way I would ever have enough time to work my way up to one. So I really don't see the problem.

Well, it depends entirely on how you approach exploring. I do it because I like cruising about, discovering stuff (and getting a 'discovered by' tag ;)). The money is of minor interest. Purely payment for services rendered.

I would agree 100% with you if the systems were truly stunning to explore, but these systems are very generic and all follow the same pattern. There are no civilizations to meet, no interesting things on planets to explore. No new type of fauna that can cure space herpes, no ship with a blown out FSD begging for you to get spare parts from the nearest station or tow it via a latching clamp. It's just fly here point at something for 20 seconds, fly to next thing, point at it for 20 seconds. What we have now is just the basic framework of the game to come. I imagine ED will be like X3. Gorgeous to look at and fun to play for the first month or two, but will take years to reach its amazing potential.

I don't care much about pay to win,cut I wouldn't personally want to pay for a ship as I wouldn't feel as though I'd earned it. No particular objection to the idea though.

This would really damage the game imo.If someone is powerful in the game i want to know that they "earned" that power in the game.

So players shouldnt be able to buy ships they don't have time to grind for because..............YOU want them to earn it? K

Likens a video game to the real world, and makes assumptions about people's real life expectations.

Clearly thinks he is a bad ass in the real world, who has some unique experience over most people.

I have been to war mate, doesn't get any more realistic than that. I still think the cash shop is a good idea.

Its not a 'bit of grind' its a crazy amount of grind unless you are unemployed and have nothing better to do.

Keep your internet tough guy talk to your bathroom mirror, where it belongs.

I play in Solo, I could not give a toss about the "In Game" pretendy pecking order...........and how do you know the "Power" in game was not earned by some trader banging out rares during the bug phase when there were no limits and they made 100s of Millions?

The problem is "GRIND TO WIN" is going to end up with Empty servers.....players will get bored and move on...............or have you not been watching the forums?

This ^^^^

Significance, substance, meaning.

Is all relative to an individual. After grinding for some time, any significance, substance or meaning of earning ships through flying backwards and forwards between 2 stations, hundreds of times, has been lost to me personally.

If you that way of earning ships has significance, then i don't know what to say.

Chap with "Thatcher Issues" wants "things" to be free............pleanty of time on your hands by any chance? ;)

Who mentioned free, all the best things are delivered by hard work, intelligence and thought.... I think you are bringing your own prejudices and pre-conceived notions to the fore here ?
