Hi All
.
Some people have lots of time.......and maybe not so much money?........for them, they can grind their way to new ships.........and to mention Payable downloads is like the ultimate sin.......
.
For myself, I am sat in front of a machine for my working day, and I have no desire to "grind" in front of one in the evenings.......have fun? yes...grind? no chance........however, I do have pleanty of real world credits, called "pounds".....
.
Any chance that FD can sell the ships in the store for people who do not have the time to grind out millions of credits? I have some REAL credits you can have instead.......
.
I dont see buying the ships as "Pay to Win".....as others can just grind to the same ship, there is no "bonus weapon" for a cash purchase.....just simple logic......some people have time and can grind, some people dont have the time but have cash......can FD please all?
.
Cheers.

this is really dumb. payed DLC is not a sin! it's a way for a company to make more money from a single video game, which in turn allows them to continue to improve the game rather than just make a game in a year, pay reviews to nice things, rinse and repeat. second, have you at all though about what you said? it would be pay to win! imagine in wow, that you could pay real money to get the top tier items. what would you honestly do? you would get bored because there will be nothing to do. games like this are meant for the journey, not a race to see who can get an anaconda first. if you dont want to play the game for the journey then you are most definitely playing the wrong game. play lol or COD for that instant gratification that you so badly want.

What hard effort? Flying from A to B and back six hours a day, every day, for the next two months? You know, there has to be "daddy's money" somewhere in there too - because it is very likely that someone has to feed and take care of that lazy dude who does nothing but sitting and playing video games all day long. What's the difference, really?

Let me get this straight - if someone asked me this six months ago, before I started to play and barely knew what ED was all about, I'd probably respond with utter disgust. Now when I see the underlying game mechanics which are very simple, non-competitive nature of the game, and general direction that FDEV has taken with it, I really don't understand why should anyone feel endangered by this change. Heck, I know I'd rather pay 50 or 100 EUR for Anaconda instead of sitting like freaking lunatic doing trade runs until my eyes start to bleed.

Why cant I give more REP :D

All seems to be a moot point now, news is spreading across the threads that a Nerf is heading traders way, or at least a serious buff is coming to the other trades....this is good business sense as it puts the exciting ships in the hands of the exciting people, and not the boring bean counters and spreadsheet flyers.......

So... you don't want anyone to care about what you would turn this game into because... I can go play by yourself.

It is a social game. So changes affect everyone. Your grand idea impacts everyone else. You want me to accept that it's okay to fly in to a system where some bored kid with more money than sense is buying anacondas fully equipped to one shot people like the whole dumb fire saga... Yeah sure I can deal with that, he probably can't shoot worth peanuts, but it's outside the lore of the game, it's outside the idea that the next person deserves the same respect for working up from that sidewinder (or backing the game in the beginning.)

You want to turn this game into what it is to something that a log of people don't want it to be: Eve.

Only in your own mind. What another player doesn't effect you at all. Why would you care if another player 45k lys away from you bought a Conda? A player that you will NEVER meet? Only reason I have seen you post if because YOU want everyone to play the way you play.

How anyone plays - is their own choice. You're not talking about that choice, you're talking about changing the whole framework of what Elite is. That affects me. And like many others, I say no! I don't want your vision of what you think that game should be changed to.

Have you seen the latest quote from the Devs? They agree that Trading is far too powerfull compared to other play styles and they feel that other players should not be forced in to trading to get to the next ship....
.
So, I get what I want AND I get to keep my money....Double Win!..... :)
.
.....traders? maybe not so enthused....?

No and I ask the question why did those that say they are time poor, buy this game in the first instance, it was plain from the very beginning that this game was going to be a grind in one form or another it is the very core of the game that progression would be slow, it would be like me playing a twitch based FPS run and gun game and then complaining I dont like to run and gun...

I do despair at the lack of thought process that some people seem to have.

Elite was never advertised as a grind. Players new to Elite would have no clue what the old games were like. And we are not talking about progression, we are talking about ships.

I wouldn't pay real world money for a ship but I see no reason why it couldn't be implemented for those who want to purchase. Besides, FD could control it; e.g. limit each gamer's account to only one ship purchase, limit the purchase to the stock ship model only (no upgrades as part of the purchase), refuse the purchase if the gamer lacks the necessary insurance premium Credits, etc.

You could also potentially do it as a part real world money / part credits scheme. For example, I want to buy a Python but I need 23Mil Credits in my account (50% of the purchase price) and I then pay X amount in my local currency to make up the balance. That way, we won't get absolute beginners attempting to dock for their very first time in their soon-to-be-badly-dented Anaconda...

That's a good idea......limit it to one ship a month, or base the sale pace based on how long the averge Grind is to get one.......if you have time and can grind for a month.....cool.....if I grind in the real world for a month, and want to spend 30quid on a ship at the end of it, cool......we both end up with the same ship........I'm happy.....but the Grinder thinks this is "unfair".......even though I play in SOLO!........

I don't need it, but I won't be opposed to it. It would go to make a better game. My gut feeling is that this game needs more funding anyway.

Trading is what I do, and once I am in a secure position in my Type 9 I will be looking to engage more with the community through wings, and generally roleplaying my way to fun :)

You have been understanding of this issue since page one.....I hope you realise my playful barbs are aimed at the "Lords of Elite" who seem to think their word is law.........I susspect a few of Them, will not be happy with the Devs latest news........

Why cant I give more REP :D

Kinda short with rep points here as well, mate :D

Naysayers are funny. This is amuzing thread, poll results even more. Especially when we remember that the game is going to console market and it's probably just a matter of time before we find something else than skins and t-shirts in the FDEV's online shop :)

How is buying ships in a store changing the game? I think you are confused. Some players want to be able to buy ships in the store. Changing the game would be making the store the only place to buy ships.

Yes, wouldn't bother me to be honest, I play solo so wouldn't affect my gameplay, but if I played open the answer would be no

Definitely not...i used to play Ogame a lot online, a free online game. A few years ago they started to introduce a 'buy credits for cash' & 'use bought credits for more ingame stuff', this increased each month & now your cash buys everything.
It ruins the game for 99% of players who are 'bullied' by the 1% of rich kids, who buy everything then smash everyone else in the game.

Iv said this b4, the ogame forum is now more interesting than the game, with each players action subject to pages of forum accusation, trolling & flaming.

Though everyone plays in one instance in ogame, a move like this would kill the open mode

The day that ED goes "pay to win" would be the day I uninstall the game. Or in other words: NEVER

Good thing that there is no "WIN" in Elite Dangerous, then.

Then you crash the ship and don't have enough money for insurance and come on the forum whining about how you paid real money to own the best ship for 5 minutes...

No.

Or you buy yourself enough credits from the store with real money so you can afford insurance again. :D

..........................................................................................................................

Honestly: I wouldn't have a problem with such a "pay to play" model as it is A: entirely optional and B: as long as all the money from the ED store goes directly into ongoing development, all players profit from it.
