Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread [See new thread]

There have been lots of talk about buffing Open play to encourage more commanders to leave solo behind.
We are aware that traders are trading rares to make loads of money, and because the rares attract traders they also attract pirates who naturally hang out around rares routes, problem is that realising that pirates are doing this, then causes rares traders to run off into solo, and its just killing the whole gameplay that rares runs should be creating.

Basically the ability to enter solo mode is causing the rares runs to have the exact opposite effect on game play than they should !

So whilst i'm not generally in favour of using artificial mechanisms to guide the game one way or another or having different rules for open and solo, in this case I did just have the thought that they could buff open trading and solve the gameplay break on the rares runs by only having the rares available in open.

One stone, two birds so to speak.

you surely have an issue with solo... all your posts/threads are about it... let people play the way they want. If you dislike them for not wanting/needing/willing to play your style do not push them, try to earn them...

Your attitude only serves to confirm the stance "in open people wants to force me to do things" those CMDRs have.

Live and Let Live.

remind u the ppl playing in solo payed for the game ...

We should encourage people to play in solo. Make rares only available in solo and 10% buff to all rewards (trade, bounties, exploration data) gained in solo. Makes as much sense as OP.

This is could be a good start to an idea. Perhaps they should increase a traders profitability overall while playing open. Not reduce it in Solo, but increase it in Open. Add a 10% bonus to every transaction completed in Open Play.

Also no. All these ideas start from the base premise that pushing solo players into open is good. As it stands now, people play in open, solo or private groups depending on their preferences. That seems like the best possible scenario.

Maybe the game will attract more players that want to run around in open with you, and maybe it won't.

It isn't an unmitigated good to transition players from one mode to another, doubly so if you implement it via pressure. Just like it isn't/wasn't good to have players feel forced to trade to make money, it wouldn't be good for players to feel they have to play in open.

Oh my, not another 'Open v Solo' thread with a slight twist for good measure!. This is just trolling.

Good idea, but it would also need to be protected against people joining open, at a station, just to get the bonus money.

Also any bonuses to open will cause the solo and mobius players to have a brain aneurysm.

give traders a reason to risk it in open...ie added profit is usually what gets my attention fast......and with wings up now its at least a fight that can be had

more like a 20% increase ...10 isnt worth the trip

IMHO one is better advised to let Solo Players play Solo and Open Players their Open Play...
It's not like they're excluding or harming each other or something (exceptions exist though, i.e. Community Goals).

Hint :
You want to give an incentive for Players that left Open Play to return to it?
- Make the fine/bounty for killing a Clean Player 10% of the ship value that was lost or 50000 Cr, whichever is higher
- depending on Rank/Reputation of the destroyed Player, make the governments/Faction run assassination-missions
- alternatively, let the destroyed Player issue System-, Faction- or Government-wide assassination-Missions onto the recorded Killer
- make Governments/Systems remember Killers of their Allies for a 24h cooldown period, indicating them Hostile to all Players w/ Friendly/Allied Status

You get the drift. Put some balance into this critical area that currently has none at all.
I'm sure that would help getting people consider and appreciate Open Play better.

None of your ideas for forcing players into open will work. What will happen is that instead of playing open some of those players would just quit the game. So the increase of players in open would not even be noticed.

Just let people play the way they want.

Open play is an equal to Solo.

What is your motivation for getting more people into Open?

I have a better idea, close all choice and just play the way "you" want to . As long as "you" are happy with that ,I'm happy for "you" despite it ruining my game. Is there anything else that "you" would like everyone else to do to make "you" feel better about playing "your" game? Please list all of your demands and I'm sure the rest of us would love to oblige and indulge in how "you" want everyone to play .

Slightly tongue in cheek but I guess you get the theme here. ;-)
