That's either an Imperial Fighter (not player-pilotable) or an Imperial Hunter. From what I've seen, the Hunter will be the Fighter's big brother, and will be player-pilotable.

Personally I love the ship from the newsletter. That is, I would love it if it were not called Imperial Courier.

I like the look of the model though I hope that this the nacelles come down / out / back slightly when in flight to give a little more of the original Courier's appearance. This is obviously going to fit a slightly different role to the old Courier as the old Courier's role is well filled by the Clipper.
I just hope that this isn't going to be too small of a ship, I think that it will definitely be medium size but then it could be anything from "just barely larger than a Cobra" up to Asp sized or larger. It's hard to tell from just looking at a model or concept sketch. As long as it's a larger-than-Cobra multirole ship in the same vein as the Cobra with a focus on high speed and better than average jump range with solid firepower then I'll be happy - or in other words a downsized Clipper losing firepower and internals for agility and jump range. I was really hoping for 1L2M hardpoints with the large hardpoint directly on or under the nose but from the sketch it looks like it's going to have 4 hardpoints, 1 on either side of the cockpit and 1 on each nacelle, so perhaps 4M is more likely especially if it's going to be a bit smaller than I was hoping.
If they make it into an exploration ship then I'm going to be dissapointed, I know it's not very fair to the explorers but I feel like there shouldn't be very many ships that specialise in super high jump ranges, and I want the Courier to be a scary ship to go up against in a fight like it always was before. Of course if they want to make it OP and a 'pretty great at everything' all rounder then that's fine too

I agree. While the Courier was one of my favourite ships to fly I always thought it looked a bit silly with those wide spaced, pointy nacelles. This new design is much better.

Same here. I'd love to see a real combat capable exploration ship in the game, especially if Thargoids are coming later.
However, I still want the Imp Explorer to make an appearance. I demand we have the triple pylon Liberator clone back again.

Love it. Personally I hope for medium sized ship, around cobra size so it fits all pads. Large hard point central on the nose would be a dream ^^ aaand let it be very fast with long distance jumps, very maneuverable, balanced with less hardpoints.

ED's ships have always looked better than anything RSI has come up with so far (except the Avenger which is my ship).
In any case the Cobra is axiomatically one of the most beautiful "pilotable" spaceships in the history of Sci-fi fiction. Nothing else from ED or SC can come close to it.
(Emphasis on "pilotable", coz otherwise it will be between Brünhild or Executor or something from Warhammer).

My word .. look what a little rough photoshop editing can do.
#1 that back end had to go (the engines on the courier are in the nacelles.
#2 narrowed the front end of the nose
#3 got rid of the extra canopy nonsence and moved the canopy forward to give a sence of a larger vessel
#4 enlargend the necells and raked them more forward
#5 trimmed the rear of the wings so that when the nacells delopy they move in their traditional downward motion
an low and behold we have a concept art that looks vaugly like an Imperial Courier. and that took me 20 mins to quick and dirty alter it!!!!!
