The 145 Million Credit Exploration

I have to say this is the most deserved pile of credits I've heard of in the game, I'm almost in tears at the patience required to visit 4300 systems I've fallen asleep just thinking about it! +rep sir you are a legend.

Congratulations CMDR, timed perfectly for the increase in exploration data
It would be great to see a image of what combined area's of the galaxy have been charted so far

Also congrats on a well deserved Elite status

Nice trip, I just got back from 11,000 Ly trip, only made 15mil though. Godspeed next time you head out. BTW did you get elite status?

Fantastic work... Very dedicated.

I'm heading back myself and now wonder just how many of those black holes and other such delights I found have been claimed by your good self. I'm thinking a fair chunk.

It's long trips like this that are calling out for a recoverable plot on the map. Even if it is just for your own eyes.

Again, well done.

Very nice trip! I hope you share some of your snaps on the Elite: Dangerous Flickr Group!

I am a very slow explorer myself - if I manage to travel 1,000 Ly in an evening it's a big achievement, and I only get to play 3 or 4 days a week! I am currently slowly wending my way back though (although I keep being distracted by shiny things), and it looks like I'm following your footsteps home.

I'm currently taking snapshots in Traikeou AA-A H2 (which I call the Dragon Nebula due to shots like this):

I think I already saw your name on a Neutron Star I was hoping to claim too... :)

I might take a small detour on the way home, so as not to follow your footsteps TOO closely! :)

Awesome! I think I've managed abut 1000LY out before I lost my bottle and returned home (mind you I was in a 18ly Cobra). Only managed to find a cuple of systems never explored before so my name is out there somewhere!!

Is there any way of backing up your journey while you are out there? I couldn't imagine doing that for a month and coming back and being blown up by a bored teenager in a Viper on the home straight. That would literally kill me.

Did you do it Open play or Solo?

I can only be amazed by your dedication and the distance you have travelled !

I am currently a few Ly of Sagittarius A* - quite a huge trip for someone quite busy with his job and his family. But I have discovered some nice wonders.

Did you do it Open play or Solo?

Solo is a must be for explorers for the high resolution screenshots !

Epic journey! Some great shots. Grats!

I set off on February, 7th and came back yesterday. Only 8.000Ly traveled. ;-) 10M credits earned. Played some 1hour/day. Taking this into account - 80.000Ly would take me almost a year. ;-)

Only 1 ELW found... Am I unlucky?

You are a bit!

But EL hunting is a bit of a lottery.

On the plus side I think you make more on Terraformables as far as I can tell looking at data sales. I think the Terrarformable attribute might be stacking with the planets native value. But don't quote me on that...

Grats Cmdr, great trip! I'm some 6,300 systems into the trip I started on Feb 13th and on the far side of the galaxy just shy of 60,000 LY from Sol so I'll not be seeing home for a few weeks yet...

Wow! Prepare to become disgustingly rich! :D

Well done.
An awesome job.

I think I'll have to fit out an Asp for a bit of this exploring lark.
Do we still need the basic scanner as well as the advanced, or can you just fit the advanced?
I remember that you had to have both, but that was ages ago and I'm not aware of anything to the contrary, so if someone can put me straight that would be most excellent.

Advanced scanner for revealing all planets in the system. Discovery scanner for surface scanning. No need for basic or intermediate scanners.

Yep! Went from Pathfinder to Elite. I suspect Aimless to Elite would have been possible.
CMDR Lei Harper actually used the Exploration Elite sigil on top right of the chart (first image in gallery) to commemorate this... :)

Nice, good to see my tags are getting seen :)

I'll look into adding to the gallery when I get time

Well done! Sounds like a great journey.

What was your method for scanning systems?

Did you ping and then detail scan anything interesting, or just did whatever takes your fancy?

Pretty much. Scan, check system map, get low hanging fruit, move on. I'd only go out of my way for cool stuff like Earth Likes. And sometimes not then if they were on a distant 2ndry star

I normally prefer Open Play, but in the deeps of space I switched to Solo so I could take high res photos. I switched back to Open Play before entering populated space. Luckily no run ins with CMDR itchynipples or his friends... :)

Very nice and congratulations. It would be nice if one could drop communication drones so you could transmit your data as you go, so you don't lose anything if you're destroyed.

Just awesome. +1
When looking back - would you have build your ship any different if you should do it again?

I'm still busy with my current trip, don't think I'll match that, I don't like being out more that a few days. I get a bit twitchy about getting back in one piece with the data, although NPC activity does seem to have declined somewhat.
Oh, and I've got a cat as a co-pilot too.
Her name is Georgie, and here she is "helping" me to navigate....
