The 145 Million Credit Exploration

Just awesome. +1
When looking back - would you have build your ship any different if you should do it again?

I'm actually really happy with that build. Maybe I could have extended my jump range a smidgen by spending less on defense, but who wants to worry about surviving the trip back home?

Next time though I hope to take an Anaconda... :D

I'm still busy with my current trip, don't think I'll match that, I don't like being out more that a few days. I get a bit twitchy about getting back in one piece with the data, although NPC activity does seem to have declined somewhat.
Oh, and I've got a cat as a co-pilot too.
Her name is Georgie, and here she is "helping" me to navigate....

Looks just like my copilot!

Awesome!

Sooo, what's up next? More exploring or do you feel like you're "done" with that part?

Yep, moving on to other things for the foreseeable future. I want to play with each new ship in turn trading and fighting.

Right now I'm having fun with Wings and the fight for Lugh in my new Vulture

The voyage as well as the post deserve a good rep point. It's on me buddy! :) One day, when I make enough money bounty hunting, I'll kit out an Asp and go out there, I want to see nebulae and black holes!

Wow great work! Curious if you could share any exploration tips? ie. Did you just continue in a straight line or did you explore nearby systems as you travelled? I wish you could configure your own routes in ED would make things a tad easier!

Another epic journey! Welcome to the Elite Explorers Club, and more importantly, welcome home! :D

Ah, Commander Zulu! Among my private stash of exploration photos I believe there's one of a system map of a certain black hole with your name on it... :)

My course plotting changed around a bit. Initially we were in release 1.07 so I was picking out tasty morsels 50ly ahead of me like G stars and Neutron stars. Just before I entered the Bulge 1.1 came out so I start going 300-500 ly forwards picking out a neutron star, black hole or other wise. Sometimes I'd jump a view valuable looking neighbors before continuing the course.

For the most part though I usually went in a roughly straight line. I'd pick a land mark I was heading to and keep going that way till I got there.

For the first half of the journey I spent a lot of time -1000Ly on the Y axis, and for the 2nd half +1000Ly nomming tasty non-sequence star kinda pacman style.

Grats! Incredible money, my trip visiting 2,521 systems was a measly 13M, but that was before first explorer bonus and the recent increase. But I only spent a month, I guess you scanned more bodies, and probably more massive ones (like black holes).

Welcome back! If you were like me, I kissed the landing pad on arrival, so happy I was at being finally docked... :)

I definitly saw your name on a couple of systems 4000 ly away from civilisation today , What are the odds :D ? congrats on your return home , still a long way for me.

Great screenshots.

I seem to be the slowest explorer there is...I've been exploring for 55 days and only visited ~2460 systems, traveled 73k ly, 54k ly away from Sol. And not even half of my journey is over. Still 6-7k ly till the northern edge of Milky Way, then I will turn left, traveling anticlockwise along the outer edge of the galaxy all the way till I reach Z=0 , then head sharp "east" back home. So, still 2-3 months of being alone for me...

If anyone is currently exploring please add me (cmdr freddie mc) so I can be nosey and see where all the fellow scanning dorks are.

I'm never going to be able to live that down, it seems. :p It's but a tiny thing compared to the well documented exploration achievements of yours, Tequila, Nutter, Kamzel, r4nger0, bigbadlynx, Allitnil and others; and compared to the combat, trading, piloting and piracy achievements of other CMDRs.

I'm still aiming (well, hoping is a better word) for big things, if I can keep the willpower - and the computer - going.

If anyone is currently exploring please add me (cmdr freddie mc) so I can be nosey and see where all the fellow scanning dorks are.

OK - but expect to find me in Solo mode... for, um, hi res screenshotting. :)

You can also high res screenshot in group mode.

Maybe we need an explorers group. Think I'll set one up when I get back home.

I'm about 35 days out, 6000ly from Sol and have scanned just over 500 systems on my current trip so I guess I'm slower. It always utterly amazes me how far people get so quickly. The guy above you: 8000ly in 4 days? How do you guys do this? Are you just jumping? Guessing your not scanning moons 100,000ls out. My biggest day was travelling 600 ly.

Great and inspirational story! Rep from me too, and salute!

Awesome! I think I've managed abut 1000LY out before I lost my bottle and returned home (mind you I was in a 18ly Cobra). Only managed to find a cuple of systems never explored before so my name is out there somewhere!!

Hey, i am also in a 18ly Cobra, heading out at the moment, around 1000ly from home. I seem to progress about 1000ly per week, so it will take me a while to get 80.000ly away! :)

I don't find it a problem to find unexplored systems. My trick is to first head towards some landmark (like the Pleiades nebula), then switch to a random direction towards empty space. You only need to travel about 100ly "off course" that way after which practically every system is so far unexplored.

Welcome Back Commander!!!

Some journey, but clearly worth every credit :D

Out of interest, how was the Exploration chart put together by Commander Lei Harper?

Regards
