Your predictions for Elite V (FIVE!)
As a starting point:
1. Full SP only universe.
2. Based much more on an evolution of Frontier and FFE (Newtonian flight, near-accurate galaxy simulation, seamless landing and take off from planets and asteroids etc).
3. More 'science based' gameplay. From ships controls to exploration and research possibilities (explore space and find new materials that can be researched on your ship (with the science lab upgrade) to unlock their properties that you can then utilise (where applicable) or sell on the open market.
4. More quest lines across the multiple factions. Develop massively the back story for the main factions and their relationship to one another (Federation, Imperial and Alliance) and involve a serious faction rivalry system in the game.
5. Procedural generation a larger aspect of the overall game design (From universe and planet generation to a selection of random generic quest 'filler' types etc) to allow more accurate astronomical simulation and increase the sandbox aspect and re-playability of the game.
6. Economy fixed to allow inter-system trade and travel as viable option for early gameplay. Game start positions now possible based more on this early in-system gameplay. You can start in a Lifter and transport goods from Mars to Saturn and make money! You can ferry passengers in a shuttle from Earth to the Moon and make money! etc.
7. More detail in system, e.g. Planets with different flora and environments, more asteroids/comets, proper scale to different types of colony (from small outpost with limited facilities to large sprawling 'old world' cities like London and New York on earth with lots of places to visit on planet and services to use).
8. Larger role for crew, simple stat system to allow performance percentage difference in operation of specific crew role (e.g. crew now have specialisations; Engineer, Gunner, Navigator and different abilities in that roll that can effect your ships performance etc). Different ships will have different requirements for these specific roles. Possible to also have computer/robotic upgrades to fulfill some of these roles.
9. Reduced specs required as less needed on graphics due to efficient use of procedural technology (see Limit Theory). Graphics not aiming to compete with latest AAA games, as most of the games design focus will be on the complex and detailed in game systems to provide a richer experience to draw you into the vibrant living game world. The minds-eye is the most powerful GPU you can ever need. Let the games detail and richness guide the minds eye to fully immerse the player.
Aim for graphics in the ball park of the FFED3D and Pioneer games:

A little more polished off course, and with the larger variety of textures this more detailed version of Elite will need. But aim 'low' rather than 'high' in the graphics to ensure more people (from all over the world) can play the game smoothly and to avoid the situation of what happened to X: Rebirth.
Target system: 1Ghz CPU single core, 128MB GPU, 512MB System RAM, 32bit OS. (give the coders a challange!)
