Windows 10

Has anybody tried running ED on Windows 10 Build 10041? I'm planning on trying it later tonight, but would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

I heard there are issues with the latest Nvidia Win 10 drivers not playing nicely with ED.

Though, when it comes to operating systems, I'm content with other people running into all the problems before I start using it.

Win10 is a pre-release version and drivers may or may not work today. As it gets closer to release that will firm up but not everyone is on the ball updating their drivers.

somewhat related note. Assuming you didn't start out with windows 10 when you started playing Elite. Are the two directories in the user dir the only ones you need to copy over when installing a new OS but not wanting to re-download ED and re-setup your bindings? Do you throw them on the new machine and then pull the installer from the store again?

NV are pretty damn reliable in that regard tbf :) They should have drivers up and running pretty quickly I imagine.

Game runs fine on the current build of 10.

Don't overwrite your current OS, do a dual boot after partitioning you drive. No reason to lose all your information for a somewhat buggy TP.

Had a friends account and my own running on a win 10 PC (Athlon quad core 4Gb ram GTS 250) running sub 1080 resolution but getting decent 35 - 45 FPS, my main PC uses a Phenom 955 8 Gb and a GTS 450 and apart from the resolution (monitor limited) there's not much difference. TBH I think Win 10 is a significantly more efficient OS than the Win 7 I'm using ATM and miles better than Win 8, I had no issues apart from some initial driver updates that were solved by a bit of Googleing.

Running windows 10
I7 4790k
8gb ram
Gtx 980 under water
Aver 4k monitor

All plays perfectly no issues at all 55fps in station 120 in space.

Nivea driver 349.65

If you're running ATi, skip it until release—there are a lot of driver issues and ATi are not fixing them during the preview.

If you're running nVIDIA, it may be worth a try, although it is a bit early to make the jump on your main desktop PC.

win 10 is still buggy -- unless you want to be a bleeding edge adopter, I'd wait.
and keep in mind that even if you adopt now, you're going to have to reinstall when it comes out --- not even Microsoft suggests an in-place upgrade for an RTM version of windows.

Windows 10 has a roll back to your previous OS... If you knew anything about Windows 10, you would know this is not a problem at all. ;)

no need to get your panties in your panties in a roll. Roll back has been around for quite a while... and I've used every RTM windows version since 386 through my TechNet subscription (iuntil they canceled it that is)
No one that has any experience with MS products would ever trust the roll back. RTM/preview-> retail means a fresh install. period.
But good luck.

I thought Windows 10 wasn't coming out until this summer. How do people already have it? o_O

Its been available as an RTM download for TechNet subscribers for a while... they didn't take that away from us (yet). and you can get a preview now for public release from MS. But its buggy as hell unless you have the plainest of vanilla components, and not a final release.
