Hey guys.
Since I've just joined the Exploration side of Elite, I was wondering if anyone out there in the newcomer's forum had any interesting stories about their random adventures in the black?
Anything will do, post about the farthest star you've traveled to the biggest mistake you've ever made while heading out to chart the unknown.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll start us off by stating that since I don't know all that much about exploration I decided to delve into the black last night and attempt to make enough money to fund an Adder and get rid of my little Sidey.
So I left from Kremainn and headed down towards Uzumeru and out into the black, scanning and travelling as I went. I had never used a Fuel scoop before so it was interesting flying up close to a star and then sitting on it, recharging.
I kept going in that particular direction until I was out about 100 LY from Kremainn and jumped to an unexplored star, little did I know it was a White Star, or that the heat range of those star is incredibly massive. So I jumped into it's field and boom my ship suddenly over-heated and I was dropped out of super cruise. My ship was screaming and beeping and telling me that it was all over. I noticed that my shields had died and I was taking heavy heat damage. I quickly transferred all power to engines with one pip left in my sys just for good measure and boosted straight out, away from the star, praying my FSD would recharge in time before I was melted into oblivion.
Luckily I was able to FSD jump back out and super cruise just out of its range. I sat there for a moment awe struck at the huuuuge blunder I had made and how it almost cost me possibly over 50K CR worth of data.
So far this is the only worthwhile story I have from Exploring.
What are some of yours?
