Game seems to be coming along nicely..BUT

Someone was moaning earlier in another thread about us old 80's guys wanting an old game remade, and then moaning some more about it not being the game they wanted. Moaning about the cost is something else - we are not paying for a game - we are paying a company to put time into developing the game that we, as backers, have some small say in how we want it to be, and as a result we get the end product for free.

Alpha access is not expensive if you're an 80's guy who has a career.

Just saying ;)

/rant

Nothing wrong with being a young-un in this economy, but the sheer number of work-shy, semi-intellectual, special snowflake, "how dare you ask me to actually WORK" people in the newer generations amazes me. Good luck being special ;)

/end-rant

Anyway - congrats on Alpha Grumpypants, hope to see you in-game :)

Thanks for your help, Asp! ;) This old 80's guy lost his career when he divorced his wife (tip-- if you live in Florida and contemplate divorce-- it's more cost/time effective to off yourself and/or your spouse)

I'm thrilled that FD has the guts to make a game because THEY think it's fun and not because it puts checks in all the marketing boxes. It's been quite a few years since I could play a game that was not exactly like every other game but with different characters (I actually took 2 days off from work- planned vacation- for the release of Half Life 2). If these guys only manage to produce ELITE with updated graphics I'll be happy but I have faith it will be so much more... very few games have been as much fun and no space sims have come even close!!:D:D

Pending approval of my Commander name, you will find me in-game as Commander Hoban (+1 rep to the first that can tell me what Sci-Fi the name Hoban is from)

You rarely see that often, You don't see many that stand firm on their house of cards...However congrats on being lucky (This Far). Because for every success story there's a far more tragic stories. You can give your heart and soul to a company, but know you can be replaced. Your benefits aren't always guaranteed.

gotta say that was unexpected lol.

Anyways I' more a numbers guy, the more that have access, the more feedback, the more revenue you generate ect. Though you don't get anything financially from backing games, you are of course expecting something so what you put in. Never did find a good way to describe kickstarter. Your not an investor per-say, and its not a free of charge donation....

It has absolutely nothing to do with luck, just hard, hard work. Lots of learning, lots of time spent on seemingly useless things, lots of memorising, working out the theory of things, working out the practicality of things, and most importantly of all - being honest.

I am by no means rich, and I don't want anyone even thinking I have a superiority complex or anything - I've simply done what I can. I see so many people doing nothing and expecting something for no reason, that's what annoys me.

Anyway - see you in-game :) We can argue with lasers ;)

So true... What's even more frustrating is watching people do things 'just good enough' but not doing them right...Don't get me started there. Lazy is one thing, but stupid? I cannot abide useless people ;)

I cannot abide useless people ;)

There is no such thing as a useless person :) Anyone can shovel Slave Dung into cargo canisters ;) I'd hire twenty of them, and pay them 1 credit a month lol

My apologies to those persons physically incapable of shoveling Slave Dung. In order to be an equal opportunity Slave Dung carrier, those incapable of physically shoveling Slave Dung into cargo containers, shall simply be placed in the containers. It's guaranteed work, housing benefit, job seekers allowance and council tax redemption all in one! I'll even throw in a little TV so you can watch Jeremy Kyle. Just don't have kids, or it may get a little cramped :(

Not enough, go for 100 and you get to the first round! :)

LOL Can't. 80 pounds is over $160.00 in my currency, which is a heck of a lot to spend on a "game". I'm fine with not being in alpha :) I'll let you guys deal with incompatibilities and framerate issues, while I (in beta) just deal with gameplay issues, or buggy quests :D

If it was US$100.00 then yeah it won't be too much of a problem for me... but British Pounds are really high in the currency exchange rates.

Was "Wash" taken already?

No, but they did specify that copyrighted names are not going to be allowed so I picked his first name since it was rarely mentioned in the series. That and you really can't claim copyright on a first name...If I can get away with it, I'd use his full name but i don't think they'd allow it.

+1 rep for being a fellow Firefly fan!

200 pounds is like over 1600 danish crowns, with which i could buy a decent motherboard :(

And still im at 100 pounds already, contemplating alpha access

200 pounds is $414.00 in my currency, today's exchange rates.

If I just add $86.00 more, I could get a complete, budget / entry-level PC ($500.00) with monitor and keyboard and mouse.

Just sayin'.

Some of us can afford the "price of entry" to alpha, and the rest of us can't. I truly hope you guys who can afford it, have fun in alpha. However, I can afford only second round beta, which I guess by then, we're just like the "cleaning crew", catching bugs that slipped thru alpha and 1st round beta.

:D

Can I ask what your location is ? I just checked and £200 is NZD$399 and AUD$352. I was wondering where it would be $414.

[UPDATE]Ahh I think I worked it out. Singapore Dollar ?

Yup :D

I think I may not be the only Singaporean here too :)

I have invested Heavily in this game both in Pledges and new Hardware - Why ?

Not because I am an avid gamer - but because I took this on as a sort of a future hobby.

I intend to immerse myself in this game - and as such pledged to Alpha testing so as to start this immersion ASAP.

If E.D. Runs for 5yrs - then and my PC lasts as long - then my investment will have only cost me $10 per week - plus electricity.

Yes the same for me. Except Alpha. And I am going invest in a powerful PC in spring

Yes the prices are quite high for Alpha still they got a good deal for 100euros you get expansion for life. And yes SC community is getting worse every day more people join. I got jumped and flamed by PC elitism for asking a question any way here the community is way nicer and helpful.

Star Citizen used to have a really good community, but certain members were allowed to run amok, and their example became the norm because they technically skirted around the forum rules, never breaking them but doing a fine job testing them. The few moderators to take action against them got their asses handed right back (pitifully) and the mods are practically terrified of confrontation to their decisions.

Since then, the community has taken an unfortunately vitriolic standpoint, and mods generally dont do anything about it. If you were to ask me, I think they need some heavy, over the top even moderation, where people started getting 1-2 day bans just for posting something that stupid or noncontributing.

Sure, it would cause some damage at first, but after a while the people who cant make a point with out being a troll or an ******* would either be perma banned or move on. Thats what the SC forums need at this point. Good and innocent people generally dont even go there any more because they'll get torn apart.

On the flip side, ED forums are pretty much spectacular. Not sure if its just the community (i think a poll represented that over 90% was >30 ?) or some fancy footwork to keep people who would spread discontent in check, but its refreshing.
