Bots?

Has anyone looked into the possibility of people using Bots in this game yet? I have been playing for the past week or so and noticed the same commanders doing the same runs over and over again, never answering comms messages and they seem to be online 24/7 - no matter what time I log in they are already on? It just seems strange that they never answer and always seem to be doing the same thing and same runs over and over. I know trading can be a grind but some of them just seem to be exhibiting rather "AI" like vibes to me!

A lot of traders run the same (profitable) route over and over and some are on quite a lot.

Not answering hails is no pointer for being a bot.

I don't really see bots working very well tbh. I could be wrong but with interdictions and the fact stuff is actually orbiting in the systems and fun stuff like white dwarfs, bot program scripts would get out of sync (since they need nice presets to work afaik). Used to love breaking Bots in WoW.

ED is a very hands-on game. Literally. When your one hand is on the stick and the other on the throttle, the only way to type messages is to go "look ma, no hands!" mode.

And people with VR don't even see their keyboard, and rarely bother to answer random text hails.

I did the system A <-> system B trade shuffle for a loooong time to generate credits for my various ship purchases. I think my personal best was 272 trips (136 round trip) in one day with each RT making me around 250,000 in a T-7. Every credit made helped outfit my exploration Asp.

I don't think I'm a robot. I doubt they could handle an interdiction.

Sometimes I'm doing a trade run and eating ice cream or yogurt (or ice cream-yogurt) at the same time. I'm not obliged to answer anyone calling me on the intercom, especially when I am in my Type 9 as it may be a prelude to getting my cargo hatch blown off and all my stuff swiped.

Botters would stay in Solo anyway.

I do a lot of Trade runs and I'm so far off the beaten track I never see a human player. I doubt I've ever noticed if another player has messaged me, and even if I did I doubt I'd have the time to start typing at the keyboard when I'm flying.

I will henceforth respond to random hails with "Hello CMDR %PALYER%, nice to meet you!" just to further the illusion :)
Brilliant, another metagame! Respond with canned AI responses1 We need to ask Frontier to publish the statistics how many times each of us will be reported as a bot :)

Whoever is botting would do it in Solo, wouldn't you think?

hes right you know ive herd talk of hackers but they keep it in solo

They also just do it in warzones as far as I know.

Its nice to see how everybody thinks that its only Solo players who cheat. Not so long ago some open players were caught cheating, unlimited hull, unlimited shields, and 1 shot killing in war zones are just starters. When Frontier kicks them to Solo mode as punishment its clear that cheating is ignored.

Cheats will cheat in any mode, and most of the time none of you will know they are cheating, be it bots or multi ship instances (the same ship in more than one instance flying to the same star port with cargo)

TBH people will use bots if they can get away with it, and they are more likely to use then were people wouldn't expect them.

The open players got them from solo/group players who were banned to solo to carry on using and distributing the cheats. FD have known about them since before release but have only banned a few randomers to solo/group who don't care anyway as they're solo players.

These players shouldn't be able to influence the game and explorers should be even more up in arms about it since they have a hack that allows for 3000ly jumprange . . .

Well, you can either get yourself worked up and paranoid about the possibilities of cheating (which in reality I suspect are relatively rare) or you can get on with playing and enjoying the game ...

It is nice to see somebody who has no clue what he is talking about :) Botting in Open just does not make sense, if only to troll somebody. And trolling is much more interesting in person, so AFK here is not really possible. Canned responses though I will have to consider, not sure what would be my chances to run into such a ridiculous person who thinks that I'm a bot because I didn't respond to his pointless message. Unlimited hull? may be, but the topic is about bots. And multiple instance ships are not flying anywhere, you clearly miss the entire concept of this exploit that hopefully gets fixed. They just quantum-leap from one station to another full of cargo, so you won't see them in open for sure :p

Love this point, I have regular routes I do and do not use comms because I haven't figured it out, hell NPC's keep dropping missions offers in my box, I cannot figure out how to look at them.

I've been doing 8 hour/day A-B loop trading in my anaconda during weekends to grind for the Elite:trader rank. Over and over and over and over since it'll take me a long time to make a billion in trade profit.

I do this in open and TRY to chat with people I see along the way, it's rare for anyone to respond. Only reason I stay in open is because I'm a fuelrat and want to be ready to rescue. I avoid the popular systems in open because that's where you find the cheaters.
