Hutton Bumper Sticker - You completed the courier mission to Hutton Station on time and all you got was this lousy sticker!

In my personal opinion (I've never done that journey myself btw), anybody who actually managed to dock there deserves one.... you know, just for being patient enough to sit through over an hour of Supercruise to get there. You can even call it the "T-Shirt" achievement, as in "I went to Hutton Orbital and all I got was this T-shirt" :)

Those that dock there and completed that mission successfully should get a different/additional one that says they completed that mission.

Again, that is just my personal opinion on this.

when it comes to steam I am generally more interested in the trading cards, but that being said, so long as they are done well I would like achievements as well.

The way I see it, so long as they are done well (ie not daft ones which make people play like fools and stuff up other peoples games) then I see no downsides.

At worst you just ignore them (I really do not get the superiority complex of those who say "no I do not like them so I do not want anyone else to have them either even if it does not affect me")

At best they may encourage to try other things out in the game you would otherwise not discover. ie

Journey to the centre of the galaxy - detail scan of (insert which ever system is deemed to be at the centre of elites milky way).
Livin' on the edge (scan system at the edge of the galaxy map),
Ore miner... mined every type of ore in the game.
Pokemon! You caught them all!, for owning all 30 promised ships in the game.
Hero to Zero.....(or Easy come Easy go) for flying without insurance in a ship worth > 20million and getting forced back to a sidewinder with no money
etc etc etc

obviously achievments like "destroyed ship from inside station and lived to tell the tale" must be avoided at all costs!.

I voted neutral.

While achievements are not something I want or need, I certainly don't object to other people having them if it makes them happy.

I'd also say :

Implement any "Achievement Unlocked" moments you want - but keep them to consoles and where applicable, Steam-internal (I think they'll give you those oddball virtual trading cards or something) in some way.

However :
Technically, for as long as there's an Option on the PC/MAC versions not to display any achievements during the gameplay, they wouldn't do anyone any harm me thinks.
So in the end, both groups (want/don't want) might actually get their way without interfering with each other's desired experience.
Your sound logic & sensible thinking isn't welcome on these forums, please take your balanced ideas elsewhere :p

So refreshing to hear such a balanced and sensible viewpoint on a gaming forum. :)

Surely normal service will resume shortly. ;)

+ADDED New Achievement Suggestions to OP:

FIRST! - Gain a "First Discovered by" tag on an object.
Exploratron: Scan a complete system over 2000LY away from SOL, with every available ship type.
Maximum Warp!: Make a maximum possible distance jump with your current ship. (ie 28LY+ in a Hauler, 40LY+ in an Asp etc)
TKO - Be destroyed by the arms on that variant of the Coriolis station.
Update Hutton to T-Shirt
Brave Sir Robin - engaging FSD whilst in combat / hostiles within 5k
Puritan - Play xx hrs without gaining any achievements
Pokemon! You caught them all!, for owning all 30 promised ships in the game.
Hero to Zero.....(or Easy come Easy go) for flying without insurance in a ship worth > 20million and getting forced back to a sidewinder with no money.

Thanks all.

Rather than looking or labeling such goals as achievements (as there is a bit of a stigma around them), maybe a better way to look at it in an ED context is a range of secondary missions.

There could be a back story to them, as in it could be part of a secret society within the Pilot's Federation that you are invited to, that offer special challenges and missions to pilots as they progress through their ranks. They could offer more than just a 'badge', but could unlock other things like additional story missions, special items, unique skin jobs etc etc. Maybe you need to read missions and get clues to finding hidden objectives or other triggers. Could function a little like the naval progression missions that appear, but essentially another secondary line of content people can choose to explore. This would make it more than just grind this or that, or try this and you will get a reward type of thing and offer some additional depth to the galaxy. Sure, if you play through Steam or Xbox then this might trigger an achievement or trophy but really would not be the main goal, and for those that do not like such gimmicks then they can choose to ignore them too.

Anyways just a thought, and another perspective on the subject.

Quiet day at work, came up with a few more:

POP! Culture - Kill 5 NPCs that are named after someone famous.
Apex Predator - In an Eagle, destroy any large ship. (must contribute 70% or more to damage taken)
True Grit - Survive an attack from a human player with one or more of your sub-systems destroyed (Cannot engage supercruise/hyperspace).
Escapologist (or Force is strong with this one) - While Wanted, escape 5 interdictions within 30mins.
Blue Danube-less? - You have listened through all original Elite Dangerous musical soundtracks. (ok this is a bit of a joke .. but I do miss it:))
The Quickening - Reach the maximum supercruise speed in any ship.
Remembered Yuri - Circumnavigate the Earth (just like Yuri Gagarin did in April 12, 1961).
For the Team - Finish in the top 15% of contributors to a Community Goal.
Frugal Buyer - Take advantage of an eligible discount offered for participating in a community goal.
Tourist Trap - Dock at a station or outpost named after someone famous.

Achievements can be fun but they're very "gamey" and Elite falls more on the side of a simulation, I voted neutral as I'll just ignore the things if added but I don't think they really fit in with the rest of the game.

... lowering the game to certain type of gameplay

SteveLaw i generally like your posts, this comment seems out of character and leaves me feeling rather judged.

I voted yes, as did many others. Glad to know your assesment of our 'type' of gameplay.

Perhaps i am being over-sensitive but i think the point still stands.

Don't want them infecting my game at all. If I can switch them off completely and have no trace of them anywhere within my game (including not seeing other's achievements with respect to titles, colours, skins, items, etc) then I'm quite happy for others to have them. :)

I want to experience the sensible, lore-based "achievements" only - Profession rankings, reputations, military/faction ranks, etc.

I have never ever seen the point of these achievements and I just ignore them. I'd rather not see them because Elite is supposed to be all about setting your *own* achievements and goals. Too many people play the game to be "get a fully loaded Anaconda = game won" already.

I know I can ignore them as I always do but by adding them you are lowering the game to certain type of instant gratification gameplay and that would further suggest that future developments take it that way instead of into it's own direction.

Totally agree.
