Elite boring?

Odd to see a game criticised for "non-stop hand holding" on one hand and throwing people in at the deep end on the other

It's like how there's apparently nothing to do and at the same time a load of things need automating
With the difference that it does indeed hold your hand at any time, cause a certain player group is throwing in the towel after the slightest disappointment... just read page 1-3 of the forum, usually you'll find a lot of whine threads how incredibly hard and unfair this game is because someone lost his ship he couldn't afford to lose... duh.

And no, there is nothing to do.
What is there to do?

Mining?
A sheer disappointment, which hopefully changes with 1.3 but I can only rate what we have right now.

Bounty Hunting?
The same crappy and boring scheme over and over and over again - with the sole exception of hunting players - but since we have solo-escape and loggoffski-dropping on top of a match making system, this isn't fun at all or rather: Not reliable enough.

Pirating?
I'll save my breath... or do I really need to elaborate while piracy is a complete failure in this game?
I will, if necessary...

Trading?
This is fun. For the first few millions. Then you start questioning why you waste your life time with this.

Grinding silly missions for faction ranks?
Yay... expecially awesome to be allied with EVERY major faction and even a military asset for each of them... how in seven Hells is this even possible!? Oh right, lazy game design.

Exploring?
Can be awesome the first few times but then... meh. Seen this, seen that... why am I doing this?

Elite: Dangerous!

Elite: Dangerous, or how Executive fails during his quest for The Truth to see people enjoy things he doesn't
I never said I don't enjoy Elite, did I*?
But yeah, I forgot that different opinions are unwelcome by those who feel attacked when someone criticizes something they like...

Also, why don't you post something valuable instead of addressing me/my person?
Am I wrong with that nice little picture in the spoiler?

*I don't at the moment, obviously, yes. But I did before and I hope I will be again, which is why I share my opinion in this topic.
Who knows, it might help making Elite better...

This may sound weird but... boredom is part of the part of the game & yes even part of the fun. When I'm doing the explore thing & I'm checking out the 56 planets in a system it's boooooorrrrring to fly tween each unexplored planet but that's part of the fun in a way. Sitting in my cockpit, feet up on the dash, surfing the web, listening to tunes, watching YT vids, in a way adds to the immersion for me because irl a pilot/driver on a long flight/trip doesn't just stare out the cockpit being serious all the time. They turn on the radio, they take photos of the scenery going past, they sing, they joke with others in the cockpit/car, they talk to other pilots/drivers that are traveling & etc etc.

Yes, although it is very edgy and unique

I understand that for many people it is hard to give up their illusions that make them feel good.

This may be hard for you to grasp but some people like different things from you, quoting David Fincher films like every teenager on the internet doesn't make you right

Frontier Developments forum: where strawmen are made on a production line, so that there are enough for everyone who disagrees with the established consensus.

It may be hard to grasp for people like you, but if the game is ever improved to be liked by people like Executive, it will be better for everyone, including forum-dwelling imagination-mongers.

No, but when the picture fits spot on, it... maybe does?
Any more bullcrap argumentation or unjustified personal attacks form your side, or do you want to actually discuss this?
Cause you start to bore me with your failure to address the topic.

In Elite, everything IS a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy.
Everything is the same:
The ships
The stations
The RES
The nav beacons
The battle zones
The ridiculously weak NPCs and their behaviour
The chat messages
The prices for ships and equipment, except at founders world

Everything.

Also, most teenagers these days don't even know gems like Fight Club, they prefer Bayformers and Captain 'Murica, not that this silly argument matters anyways.
If you enjoy that everything in Elite is made of little repetitive patterns, so be it, have fun, really - cause I don't care at all.
You know why?
Cause I don't enjoy this easy to see-through pattern-system Elite goes by and I address this, hoping that it will be changed.
Nothing to do with not accepting other opinions. As soon as someone criticises Elite, some fanboi comes along and blubbers something like "accept other opinions!" while they obviously can't accept mine. Hypocrite.

Since you attack me so harshly for sharing mine, you might cease throwing stones while sitting in a glass house now.

Before I forget:
quoting David Fincher films like every teenager on the internet doesn't make you right
Simply claiming I'm wrong doesn't make you right either.
Did I mention hypocrisy before? Yeah I think I did...

Unlike you, I delivered some facts or at least some points.
You had nothing but "no you are wrong, leave Elite alone you hurt my fan-feels."

Get lost.

Anime avatar guy lectures others on fallacies
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh...... wow.
Dude... what!?
Go ahead, lecture others in regards of different opinions or taste again!

I think you just traveled back in time and invented hypocrisy, cause this is impossible to top.
Standing ovations, well deserved man, be proud!

"I don't care what you post, here's an essay why"

Up next: "strawman", accusations of spending too much time here, possibly an attempt at wit via a Matrix GIF

As expected, you have nothing to say.
But of course, how would you attack any post... while being unarmed.

Also, calling that tiny text of mine up there an 'essay', combined with your inability to discuss a rather simple topic like that tells me a lot about you.
Dissentient's strawman accusation was spot on, like it or not.

Ah, exploring. Now to me that's another wasted opportunity.

Frontier went to the trouble of creating the whole galaxy, then made it so that all you need to get to the other side is a fuel scoop and decent FSD fitted on the starter ship. Admittedly, that's not exactly optimal, but it's doable.

They could have easily, with only a few tweaks, made it so you'd need a quality ship equipped with a range of high end survival equipment to make it too far. And of course the skill to get the maximum range out of it before you are forced to turn back.

How cool would reaching Sag A be then?
You'll have to pardon me for enjoying exploration the way it is. According to some around here I am merely delusional and having a miserable time, but I just don't know it.

Getting across the galaxy in a Sidewinder was a fantastic accomplishment, yet you minimize it. Just because someone managed to do it does not make it trivial. It is also possible to swim across the English Channel, but most of us here would probably have difficulty doing it.

I've been playing the game for a week, it seems there's nothing to do except farm.
Either by fighting random wanted enemies or by trading:

Trade rout: Trade > earn enough to upgrade > buy a ship with more storage > repeat

Fight rout: kill wanted targets > upgrade modules / ship > kill wanted targets > repeat

There's really no sense of progress except farming money.

There's no real exploration, nothing new to do...

I wasn't aware of the option to become a farmer.

Frontier Developments just needs more time. Be patient. The game right now is an ankle deep ocean but I'm guessing by the time they reach version 3.0, we'll all be drowning. ;-)

Pace yourself, pace yourself, pace yourself.

Oh, and play your part. This helps too.

Would you really have a rubber spine in real life and side with another faction just to have a ship? I personally don't care about ever having a Federal Dropship or an Imperial Clipper because I don't agree with the setup or ideology or either faction.

Sticking to the role I play helps.

Yes, you are incorrect. There are a lot of copies in Elite: Dangerous. But not everything is a copy of a copy of a copy. And even if you are right, it's irrelevant. Space travel is inherently boring. They could get around the boredom, but it wouldn't be Elite, and it wouldn't be a space sim; it probably wouldn't even be a very good space game. I thought traveling into the stations in the original Elite was boring, but that's the nature of the beast.

I do agree we need more content, but Frontier had a choice. Make us wait another year for it to be full of content, or release it when they did and push patches. I think they made the right decision. If I had had to wait another year, I would be saying things like, "Please!! Just release the dang thing and update it as you get things done. I want to play." While no one can be absolutely sure about this, they likely would have lost a significant fraction of their audience; say 10 to 30 percent. That adds up to millions of dollars. So I think they made the right decision.

And I'm not threatened by people complaining. I am just tired of it. I hear it every day at work and then I come home and check the forums and a good portion of what I see is whine, whine, whine. It gets old after a while.

You're like the kid with lots of toys who complains to mommy, "I'm bored. There's nothing to do." So just set down the toy that you don't like and say goodbye already.

Speaking of irrelevant arguments...
My examples have nothing at all to do with the "emptiness of space/boring space travel".
