Space Scum

What I dont get in these Discussions:

Needless to say it left an awful taste in my mouth, so I doubt I'll be returning to open play anytime soon.
Griefers (or whatever other fun name we're going to call them instead) are a blight on the stars.

So He dosent CARE what you think is griefing. AT ALL. He just thinks that was a bad experience. And i can totally understand him there.

Could you "THIS IS NO GRIEFING" dumb* get that in your head: nobody is interest in what it is called. We despise the action.
NOT the Name its given!

To the OP: if you dont want that happen again ( IF you ever come back): go solo for a while, or search for a group called "Mobius" in the
main menue and apply there. Mobius is a Player group that has "no PVP exept in CombatZones" as a general rule, so that will not happen
there. and with about 7000 players in there right now it may be a tad more empty than open but by no means "barren lands" like
Solo can feel sometimes.

You can also go off the usual PLayer hubs ( Lave/leesti, the systems wehre newbs "spawn", and any Community goal sites.). But then its
like playing solo: no other players around means no ats around but also no fun interaction.

My personal strategy was going out into the blue, get enough credits to buy an A-class Python. These are too mean and large to get
attacked by those Gankers often because in their heart they are cowards, anything that looks like it can fight back will be left alone.
... most of the time....

The guy has been playing for 4 days, perhaps we should give him a break.

Am not having a go at the guy, and I do feel bad for him. Just being honest, he jumped into a pretty capable combat ship and got targeted, is that really what people are defining as being griefed? OP - Sorry about your loss dude, but those PIP selections and Boost button are there for a reason.

That's a short post so I won't go into whether this was griefing or not. Suffice to say it is a pity to leave Open just because someone blasted you. You will repay your loan quick enough. besides you should always fly with full insurance even after you upgraded your ship, sorry that I had to learn it the hard way.
Anyway you will realize at some point that whatever you are doing is a bit more spicy because of what happened. Knowing you can be destroyed is scary and makes things more rewarding somehow. It is very likely you will end up thinking what happened was good as it made the game more interesting. If you need help or credits to recoup your lost just PM or ask other Commanders. You will see that Open is actually full of people ready to help fellow Commanders :)

Welcome to Open mode. :)

Feel free to check out the awesome PvE group with over 7100 commanders:

Thank you for scaring away people from Open... Your post is rather peremptory and quite opportunistic.
Don't misunderstand me, I think it is great to have a group such as Mobius. But enticing someone to leave Open just because he got destroyed once is a bit too much.

Stay in Open, it's where the danger is, but that's also part of the fun! Elite is hard, and it's meant to be. I'm trading rares in a T6 for now and get nervous whenever I get near Lave. You really have to watch your back, keep an eye on the radar for anyone who looks like they're tailing you. And... make sure you have insurance!

Looks like you haven't seen this movie. ;)

wow, this video is...
With the amount of name calling in that video I am sure that if the OP watched it, you drove him out of this forum as well.
So now he is out of open play, and out of the forum.
4 days into playing.

Edit: for the record I agree that if you are flying around in a combat ship you must expect challenges, but 4 days into the game the chance of you knowing this is pretty slim if you haven't searched out the info, but been busy getting to know the basics.

HE is scaring away people from open? Nice one. the Idiot that did that to the OP did. not the one that shows alternatives.
Do i smell some fear of losing easy targets to gank here?

I agree, the idiot who did that to the OP is to blame. Still that does not change anything: some people just jump on the occasion "Open is so dangerous ahah welcome to Open or join my super cool group". That's a low blow. And also not truthful.

Well in case you did not realize a lot of people consider that picking a fight against someone who clearly did not ask for it or even tried to avoid it is griefing.

So we are supposed to ask for permission every time we engage someone? Even if we are both flying million's of credits worth of combat capable ship... Yeah right..

Only issue here is the penalty's put in place for hostile action against a non wanted target in a policed system, that is something the devs are looking into. But for someone to cry 'griefing' every time they are engaged when it doesn't suit them is nonsense.. Fly SOLO, and complain to the Devs about all the AI ships griefing.

If someone is flying a warship they need to learn how to defend themselves or run...

Its not griefing to murder someone, its not griefing to interdict a sidewinder whilst you are piloting an Anaconda, its not griefing to interdict a hauler whilst in open.

It IS griefing to follow the same person to kill them over and over again for no reason.

If you dont want to be killed by other players, play in solo mode. If you want to play with other players and not be killed by them, you chose the wrong game. There is no reason to bellyache about being killed, the options are there to save yourself so use them.

This was NOT griefing.

If the dude followed the op around continually assaulting him then maybe.

People who say welcome to open are talking garbage.

That is all

Dude, this is an mp game. People will get shot but getting killed once is not any form of grief, it's a consequence of playing humans and not AI

That is not what I said and you know it, thank you for the pointless rhetorical question.
"Permission" is warranted in my opinion when under the circumstances nothing indicates the player wants to fight you or others at the very moment. On the other hand I never chat before opening fire when:
1) Pirating;
2) In CZs as they are a kind of PvP areas and meant for fight;
3) The other guy is already engaged in a fight and I can reasonably assume he triggered it;
4) The player is kill stealing.

In other cases yes I ask players if they want to PvP . Apparently you don't agree and might prefer to impose you game style (ie. attacking for no apparent reason) to others. Then don't be surprised if they call it griefing.
