As I'm here...... NO, NO and NO paying any real money to give someone ANY advantage should not be in the game. If you want to get something, put in the game time and play skillfully, earn it in the game, don't buy it.

Totally agree

Although I do agree with you, remember that there are going to be a good many people who have no plans of playing it on-line. In that case they are free to do as they please. The trick then would be allowing MT that could upset people that choose not to in the MP version of the game, in the SP game ONLY. And that those off-line characters that have benefited from those MT to not be usable in MP, IYSWIM. ;)

Well, in the offline version of ED you can probably mod it given time. Then you can add / delete / change anything you please. (There are a lot of clever people who will reverse engineer the game ;)) MT are technically for the domain of the multiplayer online people.

We have to face facts there have always been 'gold' sellers in online games. If FD doesn't sell it some will do nothing but hog profitable trade lanes and cause issues to farm credits to sell for real cash on web sites. It has happened in every online game that allows players to trade in game gold (credits). I would rather FD get the money and limit it to an acceptable amount per month.

It is not the ideal but if deters and gets rid of gold sellers and their constant spamming it is worth it.

One of the main reasons i'll be SP 99% of the time is all this. I have no issue with vanity stuff (if people want to blow money on virtual fluffy dice that is their call), but gameplay changing stuff is something i find hard to be comfortable with.

Sure the guy that works in the stockmarket and only has about 1 hour a week to play ED, will maybe like to have the ability to buy (in effect) 100 hours worth of gaming rewards, but i sure don't want to be playing with that guy in my game (probably).

you dont want to play against someone who has money to burn on cargo/equipment but no time to spend practicing combat techniques/flying their ship?

personally i'm looking forward to meeting these kind of players as it will be SOOOOO easy to blow them out of the sky and steal their cargo. say what you like about money but in the game world it's not much of a substitute for skills gained through long hours of practice.

think of it this way, if you were to enter a boxing match who would you prefer to fight? someone who earned the title or someone who bought it?

This. I think most of game play claims are moot. Basically people just feel uncomfortable and are afraid of slippery slope. It is overgeneralization of things which I hate, but I can understand their feelings. It's a matter of trust, and while we trust FD, I don't think majority of us trust them *that* much.

The problem is rarely the difference between the time-rich/money-poor and money-rich/time-poor. The problems arise from there being players with the money and the time, vs on the other end of the spectrum, those with neither. MT for ingame money or equipment is not the great equalizer some people believe in, it is the very opposite.

My biggest gripe with real cash for credits (in multiplayer) is that people that don't have the funds to sink in to the game aren't on a level playing field.

Real-life circumstance shouldn't affect what happens inside a game, the fact that some games allow this to happen is quite depressing.

Similarly, some people are time-poor and will be at a disadvantage compared to players who can play for significantly more hours per week. That is a comparable case of real-life circumstance affecting players' progress in the game (compared to other players).

Should we ask for a weekly playing-time cap too?

Nope, there should be no impact from real world situations (time/money whatever) at all. What you do in the (multiplayer) game is all that impacts.

for that to be true you would be forced to limit play time to that of the person who plays least and that includes offline single player. if you dont those that have more time will get more practice and therefore be better players.

i hope you see how silly that idea is

:S

What I'm saying is that you shouldn't be able to buy credits (pay to win) or cap time at all - both are ridiculous.

If you can buy in-game credits/weapons with real-world cash (not vanity items) - I have to disagree.

It'd potentially be like playing against enemies with infinite ammo

I think that ED is not a competition between the players, to know who is going to arrive the first one. Each one makes his life in ED. And the notions of time spent playing and rich or poor players are not to be considered here. Personally, I'll find really pathetic to be able to buy credits with real money

I'm ok with both, I'll buy only vanity items but if some people want to pay for credits, that's fine, I don't care. They can buy credits but not skill :D
