What i expect:
1) Limited war between Federation and empire
2) Procedurally generated modules
3) Thargoids!

+ all that has been announced already.

New way to interact with galaxy? my bet is wormholes or jump gates allowing further/faster travel.

Nah, they've said outright many times in the past they won't do that. They've said something like "microjumps" to get around a multi-stellar system faster might be something they'd look at though. I assume that would just let you microjump from star A to star B in a single system, but it'd be a complete turnaround if they were making the galaxy smaller by putting in wormholes or jumpgates... and it would make exploration redundant as a career choice.

I suspecy whatever it is, will be a huge dissapointment to many players.

They've built/hyped this update so much, that I seriously think the best bits are those that's already been mentioned. Drones, mining love, new ships - that in itself is a nice update. They really are going to have to pull out all the stops to live up to people expectations, otherwise, like I said, quite a few dissapointed peeps.

A new way to interact with the galaxy could just be a redesign of the Galaxy map maybe?

Some of these suggestions are silly. Walking around stations and thargoids. That is miles down the line in paid expansions (if ever). Elite will stick to what the majority play it for sandpit cockpit based old school space simulation. I doubt a lot of what people are asking for is worth the time invested to do them. Star Citizen is adding a lot of this content and its going to backfire badly. As Sid Meier says the biggest lesson he learned early on making games like covert action and sword of the samurai was to make one great gamemode and not lots of average ones. Elite should stick to what the elite series has done better than any pretender, cockpit based sandbox. The star of the elite games isnt the player and the worlds. Its the ship and the galaxy. The player is the ship.

Hopefully powerplay refers to the mission overhaul with much more indepth mission structures. Storyline missions for the various system factions where the pilot can join for a time and run mission that progress their agendas. Getting passenger transportation into the game I think should be the priority due to the possiblities in this kind of interaction. Real consequences for systems and even regional power based on the players actions. Real sandbox elements not just as some have said inch deep stuff like some here are asking for. The deep interaction with the game world like all the great sandbox games have.

Also you dont need to show everything. Imagination was an important part of the originals. You just need to give the player a little push through descriptions of peoples or planets.

Elite have 3 amazing games based on this premise. Stick to what made the series so good.

This seems to be the most accurate speculation on this thread. Given that most of the features proposed in this thread (and all the similar threads - why hasn't it been swallowed up ?) have already been explicitly denied by FD, in many cases ages ago, then it seems very likely that those with unrealistic expectations will be disappointed.

I'm hoping that part means the ability to interact more with NPCs. For example to be able to do proper PvE piracy - i.e. interdict an NPC and demand a cargo drop without having to shoot first. Also to be able to join or form a wing with NPCs, 'hire' wingmen, or be hired as a wingman for an NPC's 'mission', be it combat, bounty hunting or trade escort.

I do agree, was just having some fun.

I actually think it will be mainly about factions, which is right up my street.

although they did mention the player 'inbox', which leads me to believe that the way of interaction with the galaxy will be email (for jobs etc)

They've built/hyped this update so much...

Have they really?

They have said almost nothing about it at all...I think the "hyping" is mostly taking place in peoples heads. All they've really said is that this will be the biggest content update yet, which will be true. They can't really do anything about people running around claiming we are going to get first person gameplay and planetary landings in 1.3, can they?

...I seriously think the best bits are those that's already been mentioned. Drones, mining love, new ships - that in itself is a nice update.

Those things (and mission overhauls) have been described as "extra features" or "ancillary goodness that will form part of the update alongside the new features" so the big features has not been talked about yet. This certainly implies that the update will be rather substantial if things like a complete overhaul of missions is not considered as a major feature.

At the same time people shouldn't expect them to open up planets or the ability to get out of the pilot seat either.

I suspecy whatever it is, will be a huge dissapointment to many players.

Of course it will! We are talking about gamers on the internet here...it doesn't matter what they do. People will still complain. I'm sure the majority will still enjoy it thoroughly though. :)

So "mail" is considered a more major feature compared a mission overhaul? Nah...

I think it should more be read as "a new way to affect the world around you" rather than the ability to get a message in your inbox.

Just picture it.

"Here it is everybody! The long awaited major feature reveal for 1.3!! MAIL! You will all get mail!!"

*Pitchforks...pitchforks everywhere!!*

Yeah...that wouldn't really work, would it? :p

The Orrey view on the other hand...*heavy breathing*...still probably not THE big feature, but come on FD! Get it done already!! :D

Too simple; it says in the galaxy, not in the galaxy map, and that's not what i'd call a big update.

And i clearly dont think the biggest has already been mentionned. Would you start by reveling all the major things first and keep the smallest ones for the big final announcement ?
And you'd dare to say with all of this(mission revamp & drones) that we barely scratched the surface?
There is always a chance to be disapointed but clearly it cant be anything smaller than what we've been shown so far.

Yes, that is what I hope, too. Persistent NPCs, NPC comms and NPC Wings would be great, not too unrealistic, haven't been ruled out - on the contrary, they have even been planned in the DDA forum - and would fit the description of a new interaction mechanic very well.

NPCs need some love!

Well fingers crossed then. I know they might be described as "extra features" but drones and extra ships is quite big, and the mission overhaul itself can be considered a huge change (depending on how it turns out) on what we already have :)

Ive personally not really thought about "power play" much, after 1.2 all I really wanted was mining love, this is now coming with 1.3. Im still fingers crossed that they've not realsed all mining changes and that there is more to come. My only dissapointment is that there wont be a mining vessel :(

Anyway 2 days to go, my main hype for this is that beta will start next week, that would be good :)

Exactly, I do think people need to understand exactly what the Developers have said.

Some people are being too negative in my opinion and obviously others are over thinking it.

Drones, mining love, mission overhaul and new ships - "this has barely scratched the surface" and "you haven't seen anything yet."

I don't think we'll be disapointed, not if you know what the devs are definitely not going to be adding. Then you can look at what they could add that hasn't been listed as one of FD's ideas for paid expansions.

Power Play is certainly going to be a game changer that will please everyone (mostly everyone).

I fail to see what a mining vessel would be, with the modular approach we have, many ships can already be turned into a mining ship. with drones that wont change. Except that more people will give mining another go.

Ships, specifically for mining would be cool, especially as they could have completely different art designs and be unique. Much like a cargo ship is unique from a combat ship etc.

Although, the Type 7 looks like the best "mining" ship used at the moment for that, in my opinion aha.
