to be fair saying the day bounty hunting died and posting nothing but a picture of a dejected looking Boba Fett and adding the letters R.I.P. kind of insinuated that you felt the new changes have taken something away from bounty hunting rather than a joke .. maybe you should have tried .. "why did the chicken cross the road? ..... because bounty Hunting has been Nurffed*" .. not funny either but at least it could be classed as a joke. :D < this means this post is also a joke

*Edit* - I just want to make it clear that I do not feel Bounty hunting has been Nurffed :)

All about the hashtags my friend!!

####

Although I could have gone with.

Why is Boba sad?

He was looking for love in Alderaan places

Cheque please..

Not a bad Joke :) .. but why all about the '#' ? ... does it have some special meaning that is outside of it's original meaning? ... (as in other than 'Number'?)

This is an absolute disaster for so many reasons.

I digress, I have been mostly extremely happy with Frontier decisions and I love this game with a resounding passion.

But I think this is the very first time I've seen an idea from the Devs and thought "Noooo!!!!"

It's a terrible idea. The biggest reason being because of how it removes almost all accountability from player pirates.

The consequences of being a Pirate have to be realistic. If you get caught, you need to bear the consequences of the trouble you caused. All of the consequences, as is realistic in actual life.

If some pirates have a bounty of over 1 billion? Sounds good. Let people take them out, or at least give them the full value for the ship they destroyed. If anyone thought bounty hunting players was easy, you'd be completely mistaken. It's orders of magnitude harder than going after NPC pirates, because players generally know that once the shields go down, you have to be out of there stat.

Pirates should still have to pay the complete bounty costs for what they've done. If that puts them back into a Sidewinder? Tough. They've probably put other people back into the Sidewinder, how should they get to be removed from the consequences of that? If they didn't bring enough cash to take care of their rebuy and their bounty, well, perhaps they shouldn't have been such a rampant pirate.

This game is turning into "Pirate playland", like some horrible Disney World ride where the honest can't get reimbursed, but pirates get a free ride.

Those huge bounties are a major incentive for people to go hunting these pirates. Part of the whole point about being a notorious pirate is that everyone wants you dead. And it is absolutely ludicrous that Frontier would remove the main mechanism to ensure that a hunt for you actually happens. Hunting player pirates is not a great way to make money. Most of the time they will get away, part of the time they'll kill you. Dealing with pirates in an area is, for organized players, like managing an awful thick patch of Blackberries, or a flea infestation. It's an obligation. Most people would rather do something else, but in order to protect Community Goals, someone has to sit on pirate patrol. It is a huge pain. It shouldn't be a huge pain, and this only makes everything worse.

This game is great for bearing real consequences for making mistakes. This is not an easy game, and that makes it so much more rewarding. So coddling one group over everyone else is completely out of the spirit of what you Devs have been trying to do. Piracy is the scourge of the galaxy, every minor faction that has any authority wants them all dead. In the spirit of the game universe it doesn't make sense, based on lore or anything else that bounties should get capped. As completely unforgiving as authorities are in this Elite universe, there has to be continuity with how they treat pirates.

Especially if you're going to give pirates drones that gather up cargo now. Much needed time to flee the scene before help arrives. They already have plenty of things going for them, don't take away the one major disincentive to their trade.

Wait, that's not what it was to begin with?
Hell no!
When it was still called "21/05/2015 The Day Bounty Hunting Died" it was a possible glance into the future.
It was a chance for a better tomorrow (or day after tomorrow?).
A possibility to learn from mistakes not yet made.

In short: A chance for the betterment of all of humanity, a chance for a bright future for all humankind!
Now its just a poorly executed joke/troll attempt...
A single digit changes and humanity is doomed again, as it ever was...
Life is cruel...

How dare you Sir ! (slaps around face with glove) Beth's 'superstructure' is a case of constant wonder to me, how do they keep it there, what engineering feets were involved. Its a modern miracle I tell you.
Yes, and don't forget about the mathematician feet that calculated all the basics!

God damnit... I should stop myself from posting tosh from time to time...:p

Could just as easily have been solved by charging bounties back to the criminal's account when claimed.

The only reason the exploits took off was because there was no real cost to the player accumulating excessive bounties.

I'm not sure the tepid measures taken today will achieve the desired goal.

I don't want bounty hunting to die, but it shouldn't be an exploit.

It will take some time to see the effects of today's changes.

Did the update say the fine is also reduced?

Does the change make much of a difference? I only lost my 1+ mill bounty to a player once. How many bounties are people collecting that are over a 1 million?

that would have just encouraged everyone to pay off their bounties and made the whole thing worse, the measure they took will achieve their goal which was to stop 2 billion being transferred instantly. Its not the best solution that i've read but its better than nothing.

So bye, bye, Miss Imperial Pie
Drove my Clipper to the station but the station was dry
And them good ole boys were drinking whiskey 'n rye
Singin' this'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die

Did you write the book of Lave?
And would you call "this land" "your grave"?
If a griefer caught you cold?
Or do you believe in laser bolts?
Can "Lance & Ferman" be your "Colt"?
Will you teach me how to boost real slow?

See I know that you're in love with him,
'cause I saw you flying round the Rim -
And then you both hit supercruise,
And left me the firefly bluuuu-ues!

I was a lonely space-age Yeager Chuck,
With a tricked out Clipper and a Lakon truck,
But I knew I was out of luck,
The day the bounties died.

I think the move is a good one, in order to counter the bounty exploit. However the entire crime and punishment thing needs another look. Yes the planned changes regarding persistent bounties will help, but I feel that is not going far enough.

Firstly I think players should be able to award bounties on other players, ala Eve online. This should be in addition to the NPC faction bounties. Secondly there should be a mechanic for tracking people down. It should cost money, or perhaps some form of in game mechanic that means you have to work to find someones location. Thirdly, there needs to be a clear distinction of high bounty players who are in open and those in closed or groups. Essentially only players that are currently in open are reported. Theres no fun for anyone in trying to hunt someone who frequents solo. When I check the top bounties I need to know that these are real Cmdrs that I have a chance of seeing in open.
